Before he was married, Charles visited a sheep farm and tried his hand shearing sheeps. The process entails holding the sheep between your knees and turning it around as you shear.
At one point, the razor got a little too close to his crotch and he had to make a sharp move backwards. He said later, "The dynasty almost ended back there."

Now I find that funny and indicative of his sense of humour.

He also said once, when meeting Susan George who was wearing a daringly lowcut halter dress in the 70s style,
"My father told me that when I meet a woman like you, I should look at them directly in the eyes."
The funny thing was, he wasn't looking her directly in the eyes.

Has anyone else watched this yet, I put the newspaper reports of it in The current events thread here
I thought it was really good. It showed the interaction between the boys and their father and how funny they all were. When they were describing how 'papa' had come off his polo pony during a match and Harry suggested that instead of choking, he was snoring! William said not to worry, they won the match anyway!

I saw the 10 minutes? or so they showed on Dateline (Thanks Warren) tonight. I really enjoyed of what they showed. Hopefully NBC tomorrow morning will show other parts of the interview.
It looked like the boys and their father have a good relationship and they can be quite funny.
The interview in the UK was an hour, I believe ,what else did they show and talk about? Does a transcript exist anyone know?

Thanks Warren, I'll look forward to watching it.
Personally I have a lot of respect for Charles. He is committed to what he believes in and tries to do something about it. He's shown he is as human as the rest of us and has made mistakes in his personal life but, haven't we all. The only thing I agree with Diana about is that he may find the role of King confining.

I wished it was longer too, because I found it very enjoyable to watch. Charles just seemed so relaxed compared to how he has been in other interviews. I guess that's in part due to the more informal style of the interviewers. Also having his sons there probably helped to keep things lighter & livier. And of course, Charles just seems more content with life these days, so that no doubt helps.
I am a little confused though - is Highgrove open to the public for garden tours??

It isn't open to the public, but I think garden clubs or organic farming groups or other interested groups can apply for a tour of the gardens.

Prince Charles also entertains a lot of 'dignitarys' at Highgrove.:)

I'm beginning to feel a bit sorry for him. This is supposed to be his "get away from it all" home and here he has to do business there as well as have horticulture enthusiasts traipsing through his prized gardens. :)

I watched it and frankly wasn't too impressed. I have no idea what Charles went on about. Honestly, it didn't make much sense. And he answered questions that were targeted at William and Harry. It was very frustrating so I turned off the last bit. William and Harry were good ... when they got a chance to speak.

On parenting, he said in 2001: 'I'm a great believer in teasing' which was a comment directly about parenting rather than in general. I don't know if 'teasing' is the word I would have used to describe Charles without that quote (although since that date there have certainly been a number of clips of having joking around with his sons), so I found it insightful.
