Duchess of Cornwall was a smoker. Smoking along with tanning are among the worst things that harm any woman's appearance. Rejuvenation at the retreat after smoking is a futile exercise.

Are you suggesting that if one has been a smoker in the past, it is futile visiting a retreat of the type Camilla visited?

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has got means to rejuvenate in various retreats. The rejuvenation is like doing a superficial cosmetic repair work in a shabby mansion.

Well at least she tries to do something about it and quit smoking few years ago.

Rather patronizing speech imho

She quit smoking only few years ago ..? Smoking is utterly disgusting. I do acknowledge that my views on smoking and tanning are categorical.

I think that a lot of us as we grow older, we tend to realize that our bodies need more TLC and maintenance as we see the effects of aging set in. Regardless if the person has smoked, spent hours basking in the sun, ate 2 buckets of french fries and fried chicken a day with a gallon of tequila, once there is a conscious choice to be healthy and take care of one's body, it can work wonders physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Personally I think there were many reasons for Camilla's health hiatus other than for "superficial" renovation. First off and probably primarily is downtime. I think both Charles and Camilla treasure their "alone" times and this week for Camilla was a very private and relaxing stress free retreat. Coming before an extensive tour down under, I think very beneficial. Second reason would be Camilla and flying. Like many people, she just doesn't cotton to it well. Breaking the trip down into two flights a week apart probably helped. Most important though is this type of a retreat isn't like going to a fat farm or an expensive beauty make over. These specific retreats focus on the integration of mind, body and spirit with diet, exercise, yoga, meditation and to be honest, I'd love to have a week like that for myself... I think we'd all benefit from something like that. The good thing is, once you feel the effects of such a retreat, one does make certain changes in their daily lifestyles. Its called learning. :D

Actually, Camilla has set a wonderful example for older women in her choice of a health retreat I think.

I so agree with your views and find the duchess an exemplary person, only wishing I had the good fortune to walk in her lg Bennett shoes!

This whole article screams All Creatures Great and Small. Siegfried Farnon one of the vets, was magical with dogs and horses- wonder how he would do with a kangaroo hopping around Skeldale House?

Yes, Her Highness does have the magic touch with animals as well as people. I loved the video at the rnd of the article, because you really got a chance to see her 'people/animal' skills. I also adore the picture of Camila with a kitten. How absolutely precious .

Thinking back over this tangent on Camilla's health, I've come to realize that if Camilla did by chance have a 2 pack a day habit, there is no way she would have gone to or survived that week long heath retreat. I would imagine that a retreat with the purpose of cleansing and building up one's body would most likely prohibit any kind of smoking on the premises. Just makes sense when you really think about it.

As predicated by some TRF posters, several posts have been deleted as off topic (skiing, smoking, past scandals) as they have NO RELEVANCE WHATSOEVER with Camilla's Current Events.

Let's get back on topic.

The Duchess of Cornwall to Visit Cunard Line's Queen Victoria to Mark the Ship's Fifth Birthday
Cunard announced that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall will visit the Line’s Queen Victoria on Tuesday Dec. 13 to mark the fifth birthday of the ship, which The Duchess named in December 2007. This will be the third occasion Her Royal Highness will have visited the ship. She will be escorted aboard by Peter Shanks, president of Cunard Line, and Captain Peter Philpott, master of Queen Victoria. The ship’s crew will line the three tiers of the Grand Lobby when The Duchess arrives, while embarking passengers will line the tiers for her departure.

The Duchess of Cornwall will visit @BDCH Dec. 12th. She'll be accompanied by Beth & Bluebell, the 2 dogs she adopted from the shelter.

That article was so obviously created to generate "Camilla is NOT the grandmother" type of comments. :bang:

For some reason these journalist want to bring up that old mess again.

I have no doubt in my mind that Camilla will give the baby all her love and support. I can imagine she and Charles will go nuts over the baby.

I agree. The baby will grow up knowing Camilla as his/her grandmother. The baby will grow up with three grandmothers, as William will no doubt share tonnes of stories of Diana. Lucky baby!

I agree, this baby will be surrounded by love and family. I'm sure the baby will know lots of things about his or her late grandmother, The Princess of Wales. I don't think the DM journalist have to make Camilla out to be bad and pump up the commentors.

The DM et al are just getting started. We have plus or minus seven months of this to endure. :ermm:

One of the US tabs this week had a headline about Camilla being back on the booze. It is relentless, silly and sad.

Exactly. Camilla will be every bit a doting grandmother to William and Kate's baby as she is to her other grandchildren, but it's better to make up a story and get a rise out of people. Daily Fail is just sad in their oh so obvious attempts to rile people up.

I don't understand the point of publishing stuff like that. I know the gutter press wants sensationalism, but this is just a bit much. Why not stick to the trash like the Kardashians and leave the royals alone :ermm:?

Completely agree here. Camila appears to be a very doting grandma, as well as being absolutely wonderful with kids in general, so the baby will get all the attention and love that he/she needs and deserves.

You only have to read who wrote it to know it would be anti-Camilla.

Richard Kay lost his best source of royal news when Diana died as she fed him relentlessly.

Yeah, I know how Richard Kay shape his articles about Camilla sometimes. I just think they need to let it go and I think Diana would want them to let it go as well.

I only just read the article. I wish I hadn't. That Kay is a nasty piece of work. He needs an new hobby.

Three of my grandparents died before I was born, and the other one died when I was about five. Experience tells me that William and Kate's children will have no emotional connection to Diana at all. She has been dead 15 years now. It's not as though they will even have the connection of knowing she held them as babies or have vague memories of her presence, as I did with my grandmother. Their lives did not intersect at all and she will just be a historical figure to them: a pretty lady they see in photographs and in videos and hear William tell stories about. Sad, but true. It's a fact of life and happens in many families.

Camilla will be a grandmother figure to Charles' grandchildren and since she a warm woman with a great sense of humour and who loves children and gets on well with them, I'm sure William and Kate's children will benefit from the relationship. She has plenty of grandchildren of her own to occupy her time and I cannot imagine that she would try to push in on Carole's territory.

:previous: What a well thought out and balanced post. Thank you!

As I see it, William and Kate are close to and get along very well with each other's set of parents and everything has seemed to meshed quite comfortably since the wedding. Their child will be grandly doted on by all sets of grandparents. There may be only one person that will top them on the spoiling angle and I think that will be Uncle Harry. :D

Stupid article. What a transparent effort to stir up trouble. Just trash.
