Default Did Charles have a relationship with Tiggy?

Based on a very vigorous discussion in the Diana inquest thread, I'm opening a new thread to discuss whether Charles and Tiggy had an affair. As you know, this was one of the allegations made by Diana before her death. The purpose of this thread is to discuss whether there is any truth behind the allegations. For right now, confine the discussions of Tiggy/Charles/Diana/Camilla to this thread and leave the other Inquest related discussions in the Inquest thread.

Member zhontella brought forth this picture as evidence of a relationship between Charles and Tiggy.

The photo below is from Andersen's book, "After Diana" and the date is 1999. I hope this is ok for copyright rules:

Feel free to state your opinion but remember there are some rules:
  1. For the benefit of newcomers, leave references to the previous discussion out of this thread. A lot of the previous discussion is deleted and not available for newcomers anyway. If you want to restate a particular point you made in the previous discussion then I'm afraid you'll have to re-state the opinion here. In that case, we don't need to know that you already posted it in the previous discussion. We'll just assume that people who have been following this discussion are re-phrasing and re-purposing the best of their arguments from the previous discussion to this one. Just make sure that your post here stands alone and is understandable for those who may have never seen the previous discussion.
  2. State your opinions simply and forthrightly - don't hint around and try to be cute and sarcastic. If you mean Camilla, state Camilla, if you mean Charles state Charles if you mean Diana, state Diana - don't make the rest of us guess as to what you mean. If I have to ask you what your post means, its going in the trash.
  3. For that matter, try not to ridicule the opinions of others but disagree sensibly and with respect.
  4. Try to put forth evidence or in the lack of hard evidence at least put forth well thought out reasons for your opinions.
  5. For the purposes of this debate, avoid using pejorative terms for the evidence that other members use to support their arguments. If another member cites a source then refrain from dismissing that source as a 'hired hatchet' or the 'Daily Rail' Feel free though to question the credibility of other's sources; just refrain from namecalling (that goes for other members and for royals too).
  6. Treat your fellow members and others with respect. No name calling, no divining ill intention or motives in any of our fellow members.
  7. Try not to take things so seriously. These people are far removed from most of us and they probably don't even care what we think of them. We all share a bond in being interested in royalty so let's have fun with a healthy debate rather than create bad blood between us.
In the Inquest discussion there was another discussion about the planting of evidence. For right now, leave off discussing that in this thread or in the Inquest thread. I've sent pms to the two people who brought that up to get clarification of what they meant.

i've always thought they had a respectful, affectionate friendship- nothing more. She was his employee and hopefully they both stayed within the confines of that relationship. Tiggy was close to his boys, they loved her and i think she was a stable force when their world was being rocked. They seem to still all be friends and i wonder how that would have worked out if it had been a quick affair (it certainly wouldn't have been in the childrens best interest). i have many men friends (married and single) i think it's possible for men and women to just be friends jmo.

In all honesty, I had never really given the though of Tiggy and the Prince of Wales having a relationship, but after seeing those photos which Zhontella has produced, I have to say that it doesn't look completely innocent, but it isn't what you could call incriminating, either. And, the photographer who took this could have been lying in wait for hours and took hundreds of photos that were completely innocent and found these few that could have raised the question or made nothing appear like something. Is there anything besides these photos?

I think you are correct when you suggest that the photographer took 100's of pictures from all sorts of angles, in the hope of causing a stir. If Charles had then had an affair, it would have been a money spinning scoop. It is quite likely that Charles and Alex (Tiggy) were part of a group that day and all had been larking around. We do have similar photographs in our family albums, we even have one of my daughters mother in law sat, in a tarts costume, on my son's knee.

(my bolding)

I agree with your post, Sky. But the affair with Diana and Hewitt stayed secret many years before being revealed to the public and I don't know one picture where we see them together except the "polo trophy" one and another taken with him dressed in an army uniform and her standing next to him. So I believe the press could be "blind" (or pretend to be) sometimes although I doubt they would have let such a scoop fizzle out in the nature without getting some cash from it. Moreover it was only 2 years after Diana's death and it would have been a great way to blame Charles again for not being "respectful of her memory" or whatever BS.

i never got a weird "vibe" from tiggy. she seemed a wholesome, fun, beautiful english girl. properly brought up, kind and affectionate and imo that's what these photos depict. it she had the character of a woman that would sleep with her boss, i'm pretty sure she would have wrote a book by now.
isn't she married with children, middleage and well respected? i seem to remember her at a wedding or baptism and she looked beautiful.

SPECIAL: PRINCESS DIANA, 1961-1997

Diana Draws Blood
Lashing out at Tiggy brings a legal warning and enrages the Queen

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main...7/nbutt207.xml

Evidence of the acrimony this caused came when a highly personal remark by the Princess to Miss Legge-Bourke at a Christmas party in 1996 led to legal letters being sent to the Princess, although the matter was later dropped.

Tiggy looks at job options as the paperwork piles up

THE Prince of Wales's assistant, Tiggy Legge-Bourke, who also acts as companion to his sons, has announced that she is cutting down on her duties and looking at career options elsewhere

Charles, Tiggy and the rumour about their affair that won't go away | the Daily Mail=

Finding herself suddenly thrust back into the centre of a royal crisis which she thought she had left far behind came as a shock to B & B proprietress Mrs Alexandra Pettifer, as she went about her life in South Wales yesterday with husband Charles and their four children.

If the only 'evidence' is these photographs,I'll choose to dismiss it as an unfounded rumour.

Lets not forget that Diana's reality wasn't always in sync with everyone elses.

It took a little time to read through these pieces, but after doing so I have to say that the whole idea of Charles and Tiggy having an affair sounds contrived and manipulated--especially the whole thing about Tiggy losing weight because she was in love (when she had celiac disease). But, we also need to remember that Diana tied a lot of stuff to body image and she had felt that if she wasn't thin she couldn't keep Charles. It was really a personality thing--Camilla isn't exactly Twiggy, after all. And, Tiggy looks like a healthy lively lady. But, I don't think there was an affair.

I doubt Charles had an affair with Miss L-B. If he had one we won't get any real proof about it as Charles' circle of friends tend not to talk and without proof I dismiss it anyway as an unpleasant rumour.

I am in full agreement with Jo of Palatine. I would view this assumption as a gossip, unless presented with strong evidence proving that Prince Charles and Miss Legge-Bourke did actually have an affair.

Good Point, Jo. Actually, an excellent point really. Charles' circle doesn't talk to the media--they're true friends because Charles apparently is a good chap if he's been able to keep such loyal friends for so long.

It will always remain supposition, as the living prties are not about to say anything and in retrospect who cares.

COUNTESS, good quote. And even if they had a relationship, either of them were married. So they didn't do anything morally wrong.

I can't say more than what's been perfectly said. And even if it were true, what does it change ? The marriage of Charles and Diana was already a complete disaster and they were no longer involved in a "romantic" relationship. With Tiggy or Camilla I honestly don't care. The man do what he wants with his life.

I don't think Prince Charles had a love affair with Tiggy. Even she is a family friend, she was still under the employment as his boys' nanny. I don't think he would ever step aside this line to have an affair with his female staff.

Also I believe what Prince Charles told the Scotland Yard for Diana's inquiry. Tiggy is a family friend not a lover. He had and would never had any intention to marry her.

I think Prince Charles always attracts sympathic women to take care of him and makes him happy. Tiggy belongs this catelogue as well. They are probably once very close but more likely to be family type relationships not lover relationships.

In 1999, when these pics at the polo match with Tiggy were shot, Charles made the first steps in public with Camilla. In January ´99 they left together the birthday party of Camilla´s sisiter at the Ritz in London, and the photographers got the first ´official´ pic of the couple together.
Charles hadn´t made this step when he had have an affair with Tiggy at the same time.
I´m sure there was friendship between Charles and Tiggy but the Prince was faithful to Camilla!

thanks for this clear suggestions. Since first steps of introducing Camilla in public sight after Diana's death, it is reasonable to suggest that these photos proved nothing between Prince Charles and Tiggy to be lovers not dear friends. I would think this is negative publicity who wanted to cast shadow on Prince Charles' faithfulness on Camilla and left Camilla in shawdow of "the other woman"--a young one and a one who holds affections of three princes.

I don't actually see the photos of Prince Charles kissing Tiggy on cheek during the skiing trip with his sons in 1995 or 1996. However I remebered I read some news articles had already suggested some kind of more than a family friendship and his sons' nanny in Charles and Tiggy relationship at that time. However again this could be another scheme to shake Charles and Camilla's relationships. The press is certainly never friendly to Charles and Camilla' love life.

What I don't get is, why did Tiggy burst into tears when Diana said, "Sorry to hear about the baby." If she really didn't have an abortion, then surely she would be taken aback and just be like, what are you talking about?

The baby may or may not have been Charles' but the fact that she burst out into tears in front of a whole room of people at those words is strong evidence that she had, in fact, been pregnant, and somehow lost the baby either naturally or artifically (hence her sadness over it).

I don´t agree, it was such an atrocious thing to say that the shock made her cry, some people are affected that way, others are not.
