That too. I can't remember who said this but there are three things that differentiate Canada from the USA:

1) Health Care
2) French
3) The Crown

I agree about the apathy. Canadians don't nearly have the pride in their government that the U.S. does, IMO. With regards to your other two points, I agree with number 2 (Quebec is disproportionately anti-monarchist, for obvious reasons) but not necessarily number 1. Maybe younger Canadians support the monarchy, but they certainly don't know much about it. My friends and I are mostly at the upper end of the 18-24 age group, and I guarantee you none of them have anything more than the vaguest idea that Prince Charles and Camilla are making a visit to Canada. C & C are supposed to visit the city I live in, and I don't think anyone I know would be interested enough to go and see them--and these are people who mostly follow media headlines every day and know what's going on with the government, because they work for the government. They just wouldn't be interested in the royals.

P.S. Just for fun, maybe I will ask some of my friends tonight what they know about this royal visit...for all I know they might pleasantly surprise me!

Hi! Does anyone here know how I can find out specifically when Charles and Camilla are going to be in Montréal and where/if there would be a walkabout? I desperately want to go to see them if there is some sort of "walkabout".

(Oh and to fuel the discussion about Canadians not caring about the Royal family...I am American and my roommate is Canadian and she neither knew nor cared about C&C coming and we are both 23.)

Oh, this is so exciting! And to think that the Queen may come here next year!!!

Well I haven't seen anything on the news yet saying that they are coming so Its not hard now knowing that they are coming. And you cant care for someone that you know nothing about. Unfortunately, the media only seems to report about pretty young things and gaffes so Canadians have no idea about Charles and his causes. But I am hoping this visit sparks some interest. And I'm sure the Diamond Jubilee and William getting married sometime in the future will also spark huge interest in the royal family.

My dad said it's not even finished the actual building but if it's not ready I don't get what they're going to see. I'm just so confused about that. And I wish they gave a specific time too.

They are going to see the Olympic Village under construction and have the various facilities and 'green' innovations explained to them.
It's not unusual for people who are interested to have a look at large construction projects before they are completed.

Ah that makes more sense, thanks Warren. I wish they hadn't blocked off the road leading to the Olympic Village starting today, now I have no idea how to even get down there. My mom said if worst comes to worst she'll take me to see Camilla down at Botanical Gardens but I'd like to see both of them together.
