Cepe, I think they need to clean up a lot of things on the site. Right now I think i prefer the older site. It was cleaner and a lot less busier.

The awarding of honours within royal families is not democratic. For example, Mary, Mette-Marit, Daniel etc. all received their country's highest honours when all they'd done is marry into the family. The BRF are a lot more discerning in terms of who gets what order and when.

Then there are all the medals royals wear, despite either never having seen action during their military service, or never having served in the military at all (Prince Henrik, for example). There are exceptions of course, but if you look at the number of medals Henrik or Frederik sport on their uniforms, it's a bit silly.

Camilla is looking fabulous at the moment. Her break at the Indian retreat certainly seems to have been effective.
 
I think it's great Camilla is now getting her Orders. I thought she looked so empty at State Banquets and orther State occassions without her Orders and Sashes. Now she will get to wear her Royal Victorian Order and other Orders when it's time for her to do so. She's got many other Orders coming her way.
 
Frederik has undergone all the necessary training and has actively served within defense command and administration. I do not consider the amount of medals he wears upon his uniform to seem in any way 'silly'.

Camilla does look rejuvinated, but being pampered at a health retreat and catching some sun will do that for you ;)

In Britain you have to earn your orders through dedication and service to the Queen.
Mary was given the Order of the Elephant for no reason other than she married into the family. Her father was given an order as well
Camilla waited 7 years for the GCVO and it was well deserved as is the order she just received.

Fred's medals do look a little ott IMO.
 
I think it was great Queen Margrethe gave Crown Princess Mary's father The Order of the Dannebrog. If The Queen gave Mr. Middleton an honour like that, I don't even want to think about the amount of anger we would see on the net.

Imo, The Duchess of Cornwall deserve to be recognized like this.
 
Mary was made a Knight of the Order of the Elephant because it is the principal chivalric order worn by all members of the Danish royal family. There quite simply was no other necessary reason for Mary to be honoured with the order other than that she was to become the Crown Princess of Denmark; and thus her position dictated it's necessity.

Mary's father was honoured with the Order of the Dannebrog because as is customary in Denmark, the father of the marrying consort are accorded this privelege. It is a lovely gesture I think. Although, Prince Richard zu Sayn Wittgenstein Berleburg's mother received the order when he married Princess Benedikte because his father's whereabouts were unknown.

Britain's distribution of chivalric and honourary orders is different to that of the continent, so it's futile to compare them. Each realm has it's own processes and I don't see why that should be an issue for anyone.

Not to get off topic but there is no reason whatsoever for Mr Middleton to receive any order from the Queen.
Some Royal Families give out orders like candy on Halloween but in Britain it is not done.
When the Queen gives you an order, you know it wasn't given lightly.

The pikinini reference alludes to Prince Charles' Pidgin name: In Papua New Guinea, he is known as "nambawan pikinini bilong misis kwin" (meaning first-born child of the Queen). :)
 
Ahhh... we could caption the pics of Charles in his green uniform as "its not easy being green". For me, that tune has stuck in my head as an anthem for the PoW. :lol:

They both look like they're having an amazing time on this tour so far. I really like seeing Camilla's outfits on her. They're light and airy and I think very flattering to her as well as being comfortable in the heat. The rapport and at-easement between the couple is contagious to the crowd and lends to the charisma that is the future King and Queen of the UK and is endearing them to whomever they meet.

I'm not dismissing Fred's time in the military. I just think it's rather funny that he (and his father) seems to have more medals than, say, Prince Philip who, long before he began his relationship with Princess Elizabeth, came top of his class at the Royal Naval College, saw action throughout WWII, was Mentioned in Despatches, promoted through the ranks in record time, put in command of his own ship, and was widely tipped for the highest posts within the Navy before he had to give it all up when his wife became Queen.

Maybe it's easier to earn medals in the Danish military than in the UK.

A lovely turnout for Charles and Camilla in PNG. All those amazing tribesmen must be a real treat to see. Although, those 'Mud Men' have replaced the Virgin Mary statue at the Luxembourg wedding as the creepiest thing I've ever seen.
 
I fear the positive feel to the Diamond Jubilee Tour is about to change as they arrive in Australia. The republican dominated media is already spewing forth its predictable vitriol: The Age yesterday included a particularly awful "opinion" piece. It is annoying as the most recent opinion polls show support for a republic is at its lowest in years.

It is not helped by the complete lack of information on when and where the royal couple can be seen. The ever reliable Radical Royalist has provided some information with actual times. But apart from that there has been nothing specific. So far nothing on the websites of the Governor-General, the Prime Minister, the Governor of Victoria or the Premier of Victoria. Poor show. Luckily I'm on leave this week so I should be able to see the Prince and Duchess either tomorrow or Wednesday. I might even fly up to Canberra on Saturday.

It is all very frustrating. But I expect the people who meet the royal couple will be charmed and have a wonderful time. Let's hope our hopelessly negative and republican media will at least try for a little objectivity.

The republican biased editorials and opinion pieces can be compared to a child sulking! It frustrates those who fervently want a republic that in this day and age, with everything that's going on in Australia and around the world, community just doesn't believe politics of this nature to be a priority.
 
Dont know Mme R. Do you think if it was QEII and DoE or the Cambridges they would get the same vitriol? C and C are not popular, so I'm not sure they are a big help in Australia.

Most of the medal Fredrik & Henrik wear are commemorative medals not service medals.

It goes without saying that the Queen, Duke, William and Catherine would certainly experience a warmer community welcome than Charles and Camilla. And it is unfair that that is so. Neither Charles, nor Camilla, have done anything to harm anyone here so any judgement of the couple is based largely on tabloid fodder and the biased opinions of those who are, and remain, completely unknown to the couple.

When the Queen visited last year the republican's kept rather quiet it must be said. Infact, our republican Prime Minister was hauled over the coals in the press for not curtseying to her sovereign when HM disembarked from her plane upon arrival in Canberra (it was all nonsense as we all know that to not curtsey, is in no way a sign of disrespect).

As has been stated on this forum previously, the Queen maintains a level of respect and affection amongst many Australian's no matter their political sympathies.

Charles on the other hand has been dealt a difficult hand to play and no, I don't think he is largely to blame for it. The man has spent considerable time in this country and has attended major national celebrations and socialised with all types. He has supported this country's organic wool industry, sent messages of condolnce when disaster has struck, has donated money to various relief causes and even floated the idea of becoming Australia's Governor-General which went down like a lead balloon (our government would not hear of it, naturally). The man has tried to do his best, or at least his part, for a country which has largely denied him the opportunity to do just that.

Camilla's image has never been popular in Australia and I doubt I need to state why that is. Again, she was branded the "problem" and that stuck like mud to a shoe. Is it unfair? Most definitly! To judge a woman who has never visited this country let alone done anything to harm her interests or disrespect her people is just dismal. Camilla is no less deserving of a chance to prove herself than anyone else.

I would be surprised if she or Charles experienced any nastiness first hand while in Australia. I'm sure they will both be shieled from any unecessary nastiness and rightly so. The people they do meet will be kind and interested and I hope they both enjoy their time here very much. Especially Camilla who is as we know, undertaking her first ever visit to this country.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have arrived in Australia. They will be in Longreach for about two hours before heading to Melbourne. I'm sure the Duchess will appreciate the cooler weather down here after the humidity of Papua New Guinea, and the scorching heat of Longreach (it was nearly 40 degrees today). There wil be a few showers over the next couple days, with temperatures in the mid-20s. One news report said they will be staying at Government House until Friday, going to Adelaide and Hobart on day trips. But the lack of official information on the itinerary makes it difficult to confirm this. I'm going to see the Prince tomorrow morning, and then the Prince and Duchess on Wednesday.
