HRH has a perfect right to express his [and, in this country, a pretty universally held opinion] with regard to the flagrant expropriation of a sovereign nations territory by Russian agressors. Whilst he is Prince of Wales there is no problem with doing so.

Personally i'm glad he has done so,as are very many people.

However. once he becomes King he cannot express his opinion on anything [except to his family, and his Prime Ministers].

Putins response is entirely predictable. as we know he brooks no opposition or criticism of any kind whatsoever.

I find this amusing. Truth hurts, Putin?

Totally agree.

That is why Putin and his people are up in arms - because they have been called out publicly and they hate the fact that someone has actually had the guts to say what anyone with half a brain can see - the similarities between what has been happening in The Crimea and The Ukraine with the arguments Hitler used in taking Austria, the Sudetenland and the final invasion of Poland.

This was a PRIVATE conversation PC had with a 78 year old who came to Canada as a child according to the BBC. She reported it, nobody else heard it. BBC News - Vladimir Putin condemns Prince Charles's 'Nazi' remarks
As far as truly being up in arms about it, he seems to be using it to his advantage, apprearing moderate.

Some of the remarks that have stemmed from this comment by the Prince of Wales really doesn't reflect well on Putin. One was (and not quoting verbatim) is that a monarch should know better. Hmmm... will he need a refresher course on the heads of state of the world before heading to France?

It was a private comment as you stated Freilinghighness and I don't believe Charles would ever have made that statement would he have been giving a public speech or talking to the press. It was a point of having something to say to a surviving member of a family that well knew the times and tragedies of the era. For all we know, Charles very well could have been misquoted.

To borrow from Shakespeare's "Hamlet", methinks he protests too much.
