Hello,

To me, Sarah Spencer comes of as an interesting person in the book "Diana, her true story". So I tried to find some info and pics of her on the internet but found nothing!
I'm curious about what she does now, what she did, looks like etc. Has anyone got some info and/or pictures to share?

I'd be happy,

Marina :flower:

an article about the sisters

Lady Sarah Mccorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes
Keeping a sister's legacy alive and her boys in their hearts
Growing up, the Spencer girls were a study in contrasts: Sarah, the oldest, was the wildest of the bunch. Jane was considered quiet and dependable. Then came Diana, shy, pretty and eager to please the outgoing Sarah, whom she idolized from the start. "When Sarah returned home from West Heath School, Diana was a willing servant," Andrew Morton wrote in Diana: Her True Story, "unpacking her suitcases, running her bath, tidying her room."

Ironically, by the end of Diana's marriage, McCorquodale, now 43, had become her unofficial lady-in-waiting. "I think Sarah knew about Diana's affairs," says royals author Judy Wade. "In a way she even encouraged Diana to be wild and to have lovers." Meanwhile, Jane, 41, grew more distant from Di because of her own marriage -- and loyalty -- to Sir Robert Fellowes, who became the Queen's private secretary in 1990. Now, a year after Diana's death, the two sisters find themselves again in contrasting states: one thrust reluctantly into the public domain and the other constricted by her own grief.

Diana may have called her "the only person I know I can trust," but McCorquodale has had less success in winning the confidence of the British public. As president of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, she has borne the brunt of criticism that the fund has been slow to hand out its $132.8 million to charities and has accepted endorsement deals of questionable taste, associating Diana's memory with lottery tickets and margarine. (In March the fund dispensed its first $12.8 million to eight of Diana's favorite causes, and an additional $8 million is currently being distributed.) But a warmer reception may greet McCorquodale across the Atlantic. In the fall the fund will open an office in New York City. A town that saw a 300 percent jump in the number of newborns named Diana last fall is unlikely to balk at Princess of Wales keepsakes.

Yet the strain is beginning to show. "Sarah looks more tired, more drawn," says a royal watcher. "She has aged." Her three-hour commute twice a week from Lincolnshire -- where she lives with her husband, Neil, a farmer, and their three children -- to the fund's London office can't help. As for Fellowes, also the mother of three, her emotional state prevents her from pitching in. Still mourning deeply for Diana, who died before they could resolve the strain between them, Fellowes has kept a low profile.

The sisters are like-minded on one subject: making time for Di's boys. They've attended Harry's Ludgrove soccer games and visited William at Eton. And though the boys' summer schedule has left little time for their aunts (they turned down an invitation to vacation with them and their cousins in Cornwall in August), the sisters are there for their nephews, says the British Press Association's Archer, "at a time when they need friendship and support."

Thank you Martine!

Wow, great pics, and so many. And a nice story too.
If anyone else has some more info and or/pics... you're welcome!

I read Sarah attended a conservatoire in Vienna when she was younger. So, like her grandmother Ruth, Lady Fermoy she has to be a good pianist. I'm curious about info about her pianistic skills too...

A few months there was a story that one of her children was very ill. Does anyone have an update, or the girl's name?

Actually, it was more than a few months ago. Emily was 19 at the time, and was dignosed with plasma cytoma, a cancer rare in young people. She underwent treatment, but the family has not given out further information.

sara, I think what they mean there's so much information at the site, if you'd be so kind as to please put the articles full address up, it would make it so much easier for the other posters. The sites you listed are just the main ones, and they tend to change what's on the front page. Thanks!

Princess Diana's stepbrother found dead

Phnom Penh, , Apr. 28 (UPI) -- The step-brother of Britain's late Princess Diana has been found dead of an apparent drug overdose in the red-light district of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Police confirmed the body of Adam Shand Kydd, 49, was taken from a hostel late Tuesday, The Times of London reported.

An attending ambulance worker said the body showed signs of drug use.

"When I picked up the body I saw blue bruises on his arms and on his whole body. I assumed he overdosed on drugs," said Yim Mongul.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman in London said they received confirmation of Adam Shand Kydd's death Tuesday.

"We are in contact with the next of kin and providing assistance. We have no information about whether the death is being treated as suspicious," the spokeswoman said.

Shand Kydd is the son of British wallpaper tycoon Peter Shand Kydd, who went on to marry Diana's mother, Frances, in 1969, but they divorced 19 years later when he left her for another woman.

This is interesting (and sad). I didn't know Shand Kydd had any children. So Diana had stepsisters and brothers on both sides, because Raine had children, too.

Looks like it was announced May 18, 2003, so it was earlier in 2003 than I thought.....
but my point in bringing up the illness was that this is another difficult time for Sarah to be going through.....since 1992 she has had the death of her father, death of her sister, the Burrell trial, a sick child, and now it looks like a serious illness with her mother.

I think there were three Shand Kydd children, and their mother had custody of them after the divorce.

Princess Diana Ancestry and Relations

A few years ago I read that Princess Diana's niece Emily (?) McCorquodale was ill with cancer. Has anyone heard how she is doing?

Thanks,

Tatiana

I heard about this too, I guess she's fine now. Haven't heard anything else about it in a while.

I have heard nothing over here in the States--I hope she is well.

It was announced in May 2003 that Emily had a rare cancer plasma cytoma...but I think she did a reading at her grandmother's funeral last week, so she must be doing reasonably well.

That is great news that she is appearing in public and trying to go on with her life. Bravo to Emily!!

Wow I didn't know Frances had any more kids. I was just wondering if anybody has any pictures of them?

I don't think she did. Her second husband brought in his own from his first marriage, I take it.

Thanks for the info on Sarah's children.

It was great seeing the Spencer grand children at the Diana memorial. Sarah's son, George looks more like Harry's brother than William sometimes.

Yep, Emily is totally Spencer in her face, no doubt about that. :)

Here is a special picture of Lady Sarah and Lady Diana watching a cricket match on the pitch at Althorp.

Source information
The late (eighth) Earl Spencer, father of the subjects, was the photographer.
The photo from the photographer's private collection was reproduced in Andrew Morton's Diana: Her True Story with permission of the present (ninth) Earl Spencer.

Six pics of Lady Sarah on the ABACA website.
In the fifth picture, from Diana's funeral, you will see her daughter Emily walking behind her, next to Laura Fellowes who wears a brown suit. Then just behind Lord Fellowes, the boy or "Prince harry lookalike" with the red hair, is George McCorquodale, and next to him is his father, Neil.
I don't see Celia here. She was born in 1989 so at the time of Diana's funeral she must have been only eight. Perhaps her family thought she was too young for this ordeal.

In the fourth pic you see Sarah and George together with Earl Spencer at the funeral for Frances.

Here is Diana in 1981, pre-wedding during engagement, at Wimbledon with the Duchess of Gloucester and Lady Sarah McCorquodale. (Abaca)

Thanks for the rumor, smgaries. That sounds like Celia. I don't know her or know much about her but from what I can see, she seems like a very outgoing person. I have the impression she is much more outgoing than Emily. I think Emily is a social person, no doubt, but maybe is a bit more reserved than Celia, who knows? I see a strong physical resemblance between Celia and young Diana. Does anyone else see this? To me, there is something very similar about their expressions.

One more question, though: Celia's birth year is said to be 1989 almost everywhere, except on the Althorp site, where the family tree for the Spencers declares that Celia was born in 1990. It's not important but I just wonder about it.
