My question is - why dont William and Harry have a rekationship with the Earl? You would think that being family through Diana they would keep in contact with that side and William would want to have Catherine meet that side of the family. Its not just thier fathers side that is important. Is there something wrong with the Spencer side that keeps William from seeing them? I would think Catherine would maybe like to at least meet someone from Dianas side. Or maybe not? Kind of strange.

William and Harry have a relationship with their Spencer cousins around the same age as themselves, as for the younger ones, well I guess they spend as much time with them as any other adult spends with their young cousins. Same goes for the children of their maternal aunts.

I have heard that their Uncle is not a favourite but is not ignored either. After the debacle that was their mother's funeral with Earl Spencer vilifying the entire BRF, I think they could be forgiven for loathing him but obviously do not. But Charles is an incredible hypocrite with a history of cheating on his wives (yes plural) and in light of his behaviour at the funeral, could well be held in utter contempt. That he is not is a tribute to William and Harry's capacity to forgive and forget. But they are not best buds!

I'm amazed that anyone would have to look for reasons for the Wales boys not having a close relationship with the Earl. The man has conducted himself in a pretty distasteful manner over the last 15 years, and has left many devastated lives behind him. His dysfunctional life has made the royals seem like the Brady Bunch. It must be a challenge for William and Harry to remember the name of their current aunt, let alone the names of all their soon to be 7 cousins by how many different women?

The Earl has also spent a good part of his adult life living in South Africa and recently in California. His children by his first 2 wives have also spent a good part of their life living outside of the UK. This would have made it easier for William and Harry to have closer relationships with their maternal aunts and their children than with the Earl and his family.

Oh. I see. I havent really kept up with the Earls life so I was not aware of his reputation. I do remember him vilifying the BRF and alot of people did. I didnt realise he is not looked at favorably by the family. I suppose it would put a strain on relationships.

Earl Spencer and his third wife are celebrating their own special Olympic moment – the birth of their daughter, Lady Charlotte Diana Spencer.
The couple’s first child was born at Althorp, the Spencer family home, last Monday, weighing 8lb 14oz. She is the first Spencer baby to be born at the ancestral pile since 1793.
Earl Spencer, 47, pictured with the radiant Countess Spencer, 39, and their daughter, was present at the birth and tells me he is delighted to be a father for the seventh time.

Congrats to the parents. I hope Lady Charlotte Diana will have a happy and successful life. Hopefully her parents' marriage will be happy.

Congratulations and it's just interesting how rich is the family Spencer in girls or in female descendants.

Yes, the Spencers have always had lots of girls; wonder if that means William and Harry will have mostly girls?

Anyway, I like the choice of names: Charlotte Diana.

Also I think it's lovely she was born at Althorp, unlike the Earl's other children.
(I think you have a stronger emotional attachment to a place if you grow up there.
It's said Windsor Castle is the Queen's favorite residence, and I think that may be because she spent so much of her early years there).

Having lots of girls/boys in a family is not hereditary, so a presumption regarding the offspring of Princes William and Harry cannot be made. The sex of the child is a lottery among millions of sperms. just FYI.

She's a very pretty baby, and I love the name Charlotte Diana...I think the late Diana would love it too!

I think the Earl also has three sons from earlier marriages.
