I don't have a concrete answer for you. But,from looking at pictures of the three siblings when they were very young, it seems obvious that they were certainly close as children. The age gap that you mentioned is very important. I think that we have to remember that when Stephanie was an adolescent and coming of age Caroline was a young adult and was soon married and no longer living at home. Of course there were the times when I am sure that Caroline went out with friends and Stephanie did not go with her because she was too young. I am sure that this caused some distance between them. The sisters were most likely never able to recover from this particular period and things that happened years later most likely created an even greater distance. One that I am certain of is that Albert for all purposes is really very close to both of his sisters. Both Caroline and Stephanie seem to get along well with him and Stephanie has even been quoted as saying that he is her best friend.

I think that what happened with Stephanie and Caroline is what happens in many families when there is large age gap between some of the children. Clearly if you are a royal child of a royal family the distance can be greater because things like boarding schools, travel, etc. can create even more of a gap. Of course some things that happened later down the road clearly didn't help.

As for Caroline blaming the accident on Stephanie, I think that's just an exaggeration. Rainier said that Caroline was the only person in the family that Stephanie talked to about the accident. She didn't discuss it with her father or brother.

Caroline and Stephanie were close. In fact, when Grace, Caro, and Steph were all living together in Paris, and Grace and Caro were often at odds with each other, Steph sided with her sister.

My opinion is that the two aren't close for the past decade or so, but still have good feelings toward each other. I'm hoping that their father's death will help them heal the the so-called breach in their relationship. :)

Really?....I'm not sure which one is the more heavy chain smoker..but I think Steph is the one...and without the make-up..to me Steph is the one that looks more older...

Not Steph nor Caro are chain-smokers. They smoke that's true, but a lot of people do so. I see no big deal in it. It's not good for peoples health but well it's...hmmm, they just smoke....(in my opinion)
