Princess Caroline's visit to Brussels for Burundi
Princess Caroline of Hanover, president of the AMADE was in Brussels Thursday, January 20 to attend a luncheon of solidarity. Forty distinguished guests joined in this initiative, whose funds will support the care of orphans in Burundi.
The Princess of Hanover took part Thursday in a fundraising luncheon at the Hotel Radisson SAS in Brussels. Organized by Pieter Bogaardt, group president and director of Olympus AMADE, the event attracted several private benefactors from different backgrounds around a common cause.
The Belgian royal family was represented by Princess Esmeralda of Belgium, President Leopold III Fund for Exploration and Conservation, as well as Princess Lea of Belgium.
Among the distinguished guests were also Baron Eddy Merckx, unforgettable figure in cycling, as well as international artist Khadja Nin Ickx, regularly invested in shares of AMADE. Funds from this luncheon will be assigned to a program of community care for orphans in Burundi. Conducted jointly since 2008 by AMADE Burundi, AMADE, the Monegasque Cooperation and Fight Aids Monaco, this program helps provide children access to health and education, to ensure support of people living with HIV and reduce HIV transmission from mother to child.
The second phase of this ambitious program will start in April 2011 for a period of 3 years. Burundi Council for the Fight against AIDS estimates that more than 830 000 orphans and vulnerable children in the country. AMADE Burundi helps more than 15,000 children each year.
