I can. It's not the color so much that counts as how the gown is cut, what shade it is. I know that at my age (almost 54), everybody still thinks red is my best color and would be disappointed if I should make it a rule not to wear it because of my age.
I also think we dress for the living, not for the dead. I think the idea of being in mourning is a very good one, as a transitional period that is both private and public and must be honored and respected by one's entourage, but when you go on to a new life, a new love, a new child, we must honor them too by dressing for them, for the new life they gift us with, not the departed. It was interesting at Albert's coronation the contrast between Stephanie's outfit and Caroline's outfit. There was something a bit gloomy in that grey coat and hat caroline wore, whereas Stephanie wore a flower motif two piece outfit that spelled absolute happiness for the occasion, and a theme of renewal. And we can't accuse Stephanie of not having loved her father ! It just seemed as if Caroline couldn't make up her mind as to how joyous the event was, and chose something very formal and sobering to celebrate the event, when Stephanie celebrated her brother.
The Ivana Trump example was so funny ! It would never occur to me to associate them in my mind, even to emphasize a contrast, but it certainly makes the point !

The photographs by Lagerfeld are great! Thanks Michelle & Nina for posting them. How I wish all had been taken in color. I really like the pic of Charlotte alone and it reminds me of one of the pics from Caroline's 18th bday in where she was moreless posing like Charlotte.

Great pictures from this year's Dance Forum and thanks to everyone who put them. Charlotte looked simply stunning.

It's one that was taken in the Palace's living room in which Caroline is wearing a white dress and a necklace on her head.

Earlier on this thread when the first pics of the Nijinsky Gala from Charlotte were posted someone said she reminded her of Stephanie, I also agree she reminds me of Stephanie in 1982 & 1983's Red Cross Balls.

I have moved like 100 posts from different threads (Charlotte Current Events, Family Events, Caroline & Ernst Current Events....) into this one, they were all about the Monaco Dance Forum. There is no need to post in different threads if there is already a thread where they belong to.
Please remember this in future.

Returning from a trip to France where I visited the Louvre, I was struck at how similar Charlotte's smile was to the women (Virgins) and angels represented by Leonardo di Vinci. There is something absolutely bewitching about her smile, as if it came from a spirit or directly from a work of art (many angel sculptures on the outside of churches are evocative of that mystery too.) Her smile is so very different from her mother's , which is always so bright, so direct, so dazzling (except in a few pictures, indeed those taken at the Dance Forum.) Is Karl Lagerfeld so good that he can bring out the essence of a person (that "mystery" in Charlotte) through his photographs, or bring out another facet of personality in a person, such as in Caroline's more subdued smile ? Also, Charlotte rarely seems to be looking right at you, just like da Vinci's figures, as if she wanted to keep a certain distance, like spiritual figures who need to be separated from the world. Perhaps that is her way of protecting herself from all that media attention, when her mother's brilliant, mediterranean temperament was to face it squarely, until it got to be too much.
A fashion note : I attended a New Year's party at on old breton (Brittany) chateau that accepts paying guests (from Relais et Chateaux). Also attending was a party of 12, local, apparently very wealthy art collectors or dealers. All the women wore black, either a dress (rare) or a pant suit, very tight and couture. Not a thread of color to be seen, hardly any jewelry. I was amazed but enlightened if I may say so. It looked more like a funeral party than a New Year's party, but this minimalist, "subtle" style seems to be de rigueur in the upper echelons, making those of us who like color look garish and gaudy. Anyway, that explains (to me at least) why all the black on the Monaco princesses.

Default Tacky but ah... c'est Monaco, n'est-ce pas ?

La Princesse de Hannovre and her beautiful daughter mademoiselle Casiraghi might have looked superb... but oh oh... that they mingle with that creep Karl Lagerfeld, with his dark glasses and his Michael Jackson-gloves! And that guy, Jean-Christophe Maillot, posing next to the Princess of Hannover in his bleached jeans with a black leather 1970's tie.

Tacky, tacky, tacky.

But ah... it is Monaco, isn't it? Where the Sovereign Prince sees no problem in posing with Bono wearing his darkes sunglasses or one or another anorexic 'supermodel' exposing her double feminity with an hardly covering gown.
