^ Yes, I've read this elsewhere. This neighbour quoted in the article though, wasn't presumably around Meghan's home 24/7. There could have been a scuffle in spite of the photographer's denial. Members of the press tend to defend each other.

Meghan lives alone and if she heard voices or noises outside her home at night and they seriously alarmed her, she had every right to call the police IMO. I would in that situation. In the vast majority of cases by the time the police arrive whoever it is that's causing the problem will have dispersed and the police will just soothe and advise the householder.

What concerns me more is the behaviour of the tabloids within Britain, with their cartoons and sly allusions to 'minxes' and 'exotic blood' and 'porn sites'. Meghan is not a porn star. She's a TV actress who happens to be bi-racial. There is a difference!

I have no doubt the tabloid paparazzi have tried to get access to her property. I highly doubt she'd call the police just for the heck of it. She has been very low key and drama free all the Suit years I've followed her career (loosely). The tabloids didn't like it one bit, when they got called out for the thinly veiled racism, the misogynistic articles and the harassment she's received. Good on her for hiring private security.

Right, I just don't think people should be tearing Miss Markle down over her career. She's successful in her own right and already have a media profile. She didn't just make it up since dating Harry.

I hope people will show her some respect and not hound her in person and on her personal social media.

Leave the girl alone and don't make things hard for this relationship.

I totally agree.

Some logic needs to be brought in to all of this.

You're an actress, you've launched a line in clothing, you're doing well in your career and reasonably successful. You then meet a guy who is a prince and you start dating - but you certainly don't give everything up on the basis of who you're dating.

Meghan has contractual commitments and in the first months of a new relationship she will surely have discussed it all with Harry and he will have discussed all his stuff with her and once that's done they'll have made a decision whether or not to forge ahead and work out where they want things to go.

For his part, Harry will surely be cautious as to who he dates and who is suitable and whether or not Meghan is the type of girl to take him for a ride or not. He will know if she's the right one or not. Let's give him some credit!

Let's also give Meghan some credit too - she's worked hard to get her career and business off the ground, it's her life and she must be proud of what she has achieved. Marrying a prince and becoming a member of a royal family is hardly the ultimate goal and success in life that people assume it is.
I think once you meet a royal and the initial novelty of knowing a royal wears off and you get used to who they are, at the end of the day, you're still left with a normal person, with normal good and bad points and in some respects a normal relationship.

If this doesn't work out Harry will forever blame the media if he's right or not. I don't see a happy ending for Harry

I'm italian and I honestly didn't know Meghan Markle before this. I know Italy it's a small country but having a worldwide exposure is different. Now Meghan Markle is known in Italy only for dating Prince Harry, before this she was absolutely unknown.
I don't know why, but I can't see her and Harry together, obviously it's my opinion. I would have loved if Harry had dated a common girl like William did with Kate, not a "famous" person like Meghan. T
he racism against her was absolutely horrible, anyway.
I hope Harry will be happy with this girl, even if I don't think she's the one.
We will see.

It's been said before that Harry reads all the stories written about him. So that alone isn't good for his mental health. I agree if she leaves him because she doesn't want to deal with animals on display in the zoo aspects of life in BRF, the media will be prime suspect to blame. He's has that impulsive side like Diana did.

Increased exposure benefits any celebrity and that's what Meghan is, a celebrity

Another thing, Harry dislikes the tabloid press as much as any royal, he uses the Press Complaints Commission just like other royals but for the most part editors turned a blind eye to it.

Now that Harry is becoming more proactive with his personal life, drawing more of a line in sand about what's acceptable and what's not, it's making the tabloids take more of a hard line with him.

Editors know Harry is going to be every bit as protective of his future wife and children as other royals are.

What's amazing to me is that no matter what choices a woman makes, someone will hate her for them.

Meghan Markle is getting a ton of criticism for making her own career and success- for working hard as both an actress and a humanitarian, for having a public personality and opinions.

Catherine has gotten a ton of criticism for being a Stepford Wife- too quiet, a mannequin with no opinions, boring and not charismatic.

There is no way for a woman to date a member of the British Royal Family without a portion of the population absolutely hating her for it and I for one will not be buying into that nonsense.

I agree.

I think racism, prejudice and jealousy are leaving some people blind and aggressive. Even hustler are calling her, as if he knew her. What I see is a beautiful, intelligent, articulate, independent and interested girl in humanitarian work. And I still can not see how she would improve her exposure by getting involved with Harry. In addition to negative comments, her ex girlfriends have not improved their lives, Cressida remains an unknown actress

I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head. There is no 'right' way to be because criticism will always come. Publicity is an inherent part of being an actor and it helps--a lot-- perhaps even more than talent. However, she was acting before she even met Harry.

I can see both sides of the argument. The BRF has always tended to like those associated with them to remain mum about their connections. This is an entirely new ground for them because she can't just all of a sudden go cold on her already existing fans who were used to her being so open. The banana post was questionable I do admit. But I'll dismiss it as just a silly joke.

I do believe that anyone whose career is based on publicity benefits from royal connections, but that's not the fault of the person who benefits. Lucky breaks come for us all during our lives (different magnitudes, of course). However, I don't think Harry has ever particularly cared whether someone he liked benefited from his name. Cressida and now Chelsy wither jewelry line did and he still was on good terms with them to the best of my knowledge. His friend Guy Pelly as well. I think he differentiates between someone benefiting as a consequence and someone simply dating him/being around him just to get publicity.

I can't say what's 'best' for the royal family because I can't see the future. However, I m very interested to find out what changes come to the institution.

Meghan went from a little known actress to a household name, on the strength of her relationship with Harry. Of course she will benefit, just as Cressida did.
Yes, Meghan enjoyed some success with her endeavors, but few had ever heard of her.

That has now changed. Whatever happens between them now, she will forevermore be linked with Harry, just as Koo Stark is always linked withAndrew.

People don't rush to Kmart or targe because oh my gosh Martha had a new line out. People who shop there and need a new towel may buy hers over another one becaus they trust the brand of her name, but they were there anyways. People aren't going to rush to reitmans to buy her clothes because she is Harry's girlfriend. They are more likely to pull a Kate effect and try and buy what Meghan herself wears.

She's been a series regular on a popular tv show that's been running for 6 seasons now. That's more success than most actresses ever get. The show's been renewed for 7th season already. No matter how you slice it, that's a very successful run for a tv show. Meghan is highly educated, had already a clothing line and has been involved with 3 high profile charities before she started dating Harry. Yes, now her name is in the papers, but that doesn't guarantee her any more success in her career than she had before meeting Harry. Having her name on daily mail would guarantee her spot on reality tv, but nothing suggests, that this is what she wants. I still fail to see how dating Harry will benefit her career, or make her more successful. Having her name dragged through tabloids just isn't a career success story.

She's added over 100.000 followers to her Twitter not to mention even more to her Instagram since her relationship with Harry broke.

It helps promote her online business. Shop - The Tig

Not saying she's dating Harry for the publicity but it's a great by-product of the relationship

:previous: Exactly. I don't find that objectionable to be honest. She has done nothing wrong. However, that doesn't mean publicity doesn't benefit her career. Now fame does not equate happiness and the harassment is surely a negative effect that comes with it. But to deny that publicity helps actors/ celebrities seems a bit far-fetched to me.

added over 100.000 followers to her Twitter

The more publicity she garners, the smaller her chances of joining the BRF become IMO..

I'm just not comfortable with how her own achievements are downplayed, and now that she's dating Harry, she's made it big. Everything she's done in her career, she has done on her own, before she even met him. Having 100.000 more twitter followers won't get her new roles. Her clothing line will sell more, I agree, but it was a seemingly successful one even before she met him.

I'm going to make a wild guess, and say, that Meghan might chose to keep her career as it was before, if it kept the racist, misogynist, and intruding people away from her life.

I'm thinking this relationship is far more serious than we're guessing, or Meghan might've walked away before Harry made any statements. I'm thinking this won't end any time soon, they're both very committed to this. Jmho of course.

If she really intends to be with Harry, long term as in marriage...she won't be able to keep her current lifestyle. The acting won't be able to continue and maybe not even the clothing line ASSUMING she and Harry would go into full work with the Firm.

:previous: Whole-heartedly agree. I think she would choose the life that didn't include the mass bullying as well considering she was talented, accomplished, and educated prior to her meeting Harry.

But that's not to say that benefits won't come from her new relationship. Just as the negative will comes as well. I don't see it as quite so black and white. Dating Harry will neither be entirely negative nor entirely positive. As with everything there is a mixture of both.

I'm not sure if you were referring to me or not, but I have not called her own accomplishments into question. I am actually going to be disappointed if she marries Harry and just becomes the 'model' of what the BRF would like her to be. I would like to see something different. I'll admit that is for my own rather selfish reason of just wanting to see a cultural shift taking place. It would be rather hard on her. To be clear, I don't blame any female member or the RF for being as they are. However, it would be so interesting to see a woman in a position of power be vocal. Of course, anyone is free to disagree, especially including Meghan herself.

No doubt Harry is serious about her or he wouldn't have issued a statement.

But to go from dating for a 'few months' to becoming a royal duchess is a long and bumpy road and in the meantime Meghan as a celebrity/actor can leverage her new found a-list fame into bigger and better opportunities. She's on the cover of this week's Hello Magazine as 'Harry's New Girl'

Not a bad deal if you ask me.

'Dream on'.. the future Duchess of Sussex [whomever she may be] will not be 'vocal'.. which is not to say she cannot achieve MUCH..

It's not a black and white situation. There are tons of pluses no doubt, but the negatives are huge as well. It will be interesting to see how this develops, for sure. Right now, I think, they're both serious about each other and this relationship.

Did Meghan give an interview to Hello, or is it just their own article?

No one is dismissing Meghan,s accomplishments, but let me just ask if you,d ever heard of her, or her show, before the news broke that she was dating Harry?

I admit I never did.

It is a double-edged sword unfortunately. All entertainers have social media pages and aim for more publicity. However, that will sink Meghan's chances of being Princess mighty quickly.
The question then is should she shut down those social media pages and become more anonymous because of her relationship that may *or* may not end in marriage?

Their own article. Hopefully no interviews for awhile.

Yeah, I've actually followed her career from the start of Suits. That's kind of how I found my way here. ;) She's not an a lister or a big movie star, but Suits is a successful, long running tv show, and Meghan has done well with her career.

There has been a lot of 'She's loving the attention, she went from a nobody to a known celeb just because of Harry' all over online, not necessarily here. Lot of 'she got her big break now', which just infuriates me.

I don't think that anyone in such an insecure profession as acting should be asked to close down or go quiet on revenue producing avenues like blogs etc. After all she doesn't talk about her love life on her blog, just food, drinks, clothing etc. Meghan is still contracted to 'Suits,' which has ceased production until next Spring.

This is one of the dilemmas connected with dating a prominent member of the BRF. However, while they are still getting to know each other I think it would be a bit unfair to ask Meghan to stop acting or finish her successful blog. Making her Twitter and IG accounts secure yes, but how far can a person in show business in their thirties go in putting their life on hold if there is no marriage proposal in the offing, (and I certainly hope there isn't yet!)

I would hope no one will start thinking Meghan should shut down her life because she's dating a high profile Prince.

Remember that Harry has not put a ring on it, she's nowhere on becoming a member of the royal family at this point in time.

Let Meghan Markle live her life in peace.

I agree with you both, it would be really unfair to expect her to change her life around just because she's dating Harry. She has her full life built for herself, and unless there's a proposal happening, I don't see why she should change her life around completely.

I feel a bit bad for Harry, too. Dating must be quite hard for him. He seems to be passionate about many issues, and might find equally passionate women attractive. But once the relationship gets serious, the lady has to quiet down publicly about it all.

I think Meghan needs to educate herself very quickly about the British Royal Family and all the boring the duties one has to sit through when you become a member. As a member of that family [if she should become a member] she needs to realise her life will be mapped out up to six months in advance, with official duties.

It is such a pity they can't carry on a relationship in private without disgusting / overboard media speculation.
