I wonder if the Abbott girls were greeting the Queen instead of Harry would it be a different type of greeting? The Queen has more gravitas than Harry.
I remember watching something where William was going on tour somewhere and The Sun photographer was with him and remember seeing him address William as Sir. In fact everyone was addressing William as Sir. William is informal but it appears he is not as informal as Harry.Hmmm I am just unable to accept that all this bowing, curtseying, "Your Majesty" etc etc..the real grace of monarchy..will all die out by the time William comes to throne..
Maybe people who are 2 generations behind think its already dead..long ago..
From what I could tell, it was the Prince who said 'hi'!I was interested to note the lack of formality from monarchist Tony Abbott and his family. But it could have been worse.....the girls could have greeted him with "G'day".
I think the lack of formality was appropriate though, and I doubt Harry cared one bit.
^^^^ fair play Iluvbertie but you're a republican so everything you you view the monarchy through is from a republican point of view. Thats why you don't curtsey.

I won't lower my head for any of them as they are no better than I am. I have met The Queen twice and didn't curtsey either time and the first time I was a kid and she was older than my parents but she was just another person who was visiting my school and town at the time. I didn't curtsey to my parents' friends so why curtsey to her. I didn't address her as Your Majesty or Ma'am but just answered her questions and that was all. Second time the same thing - just answered her questions with no formality and if she objected that was her bad luck.
As for William and Harry - they will never have the gravitas of The Queen or Charles because they have been raised differently - their mother taught them to be 'normal' so that means 'Hi' and 'G'day' and none of this curtseying or bowing or Your Royal Highness stuff.
As someone who grew up in Charles' generation - he had gravitas as a school boy and we noticed that even then. William has never had it. The Queen had it as a child as well.
vkrish, Sunrise is morning tv for the masses. Not what you would call intellectual. So yes it is embarrassing to have them comment in that way. It is the equivalent to a glossy magazine.
Yes I agree some coverage on this program was rather embarrassing especially for me, a fellow Australian. The Australian Press made many good reports about the International Fleet Review but I agree they spent too much time on insignificant events such as standing outside the Sydney Hotel waiting for Harry to leave Sydney and be driven to the airport. One bit of info was Harry was given a clear police escorted passage to the airport (no traffic lights). I'm sure the local Sydney residents would not have been too happy with this but I don't think it lasted very long. Also on this program they showed Harry talking to one of the people in the crowd. He asked them about the One Direction concert which was on Sunday night. The commentators on Sunrise spent a few tiresome minutes discussing the similar name of Prince Harry with Harry in One Direction. These some commentators also spent a few silly moments talking about the "Poop Deck." Wikipedia describes this as
In naval architecture, a poop deck is a deck that forms the roof of a cabin built in the rear, or "aft", part of the superstructure of a ship.
The name originates from the French word for stern, la poupe, from Latin puppis. Thus the poop deck is technically a stern deck, which in sailing ships was usually elevated as the roof of the stern or "after" cabin, also known as the "poop cabin". In sailing ships, with the helmsman at the stern, an elevated position was ideal for both navigation and observation of the crew and sails.[1]
On modern, motorized warships, the ship functions which were once carried out on the poop deck have been moved to the bridge, usually located on the superstructure in the center of the ship or the island on the starboard side in the case of aircraft carriers.
I would like to include a link to a trusted website for more reliable news and video of the International Fleet Review

I would also like to include some info from an interview on the Australian Channel 9 news. They interviewed the female captain of one of the ships. She spoke about the need for effective team work and good leadership. She also talked about how females now have the same opportunity as their male counterparts in the Navy. I hope this link works

Another member of the RAN discussed the years of planning and rehearsal that went into the fleet review, the fireworks spectacular and most importantly the history of the Navy that appeared on the Sydney Opera House.
Years ago when I was a primary school teacher, I took our students to visit HMAS Brisbane and HMAS Hobart. The crew was absolutely wonderful to the students. They explained how the equipment was used and they allowed the students to see many parts of the ship. They gave us afternoon tea with biscuits served on silver trays in the galley. The crew realised we were only joking when they heard a child's voice on the microphone saying "All hands on deck". Some of the students felt very important when the crew was happy to let the students wear their jacket and hat.
I do apologize for the length of my comment.
There is no comparison. Prince Harry is more popular than Mary by any measure. Mary may Australian but Harry is a member of the BRF and Mary although I'm sure is a lovely person, just can't compare to Harry's rock star status.
Mary would kill for the kind of press attention Harry is receiving in Australia. The BRF is a global brand and Prince Harry is one of the Firm's superstars. Mary and the DRF just can't compete and there is no shame in that.
You are right, he really is good at charming people and I don't think the BRF underestimate his potential. Harry may be cool but Mary is tres chic so there is variety enough for everyone to drool over.A 16 pic gallery from BT of Harry in Australia, doing what he is really good at: charming people.
