I have a brilliant idea.

The police send their supposed bill to the photographers concerned, at the same time they charge them all with being a public nuisance, blocking a public thoroughfare (pavement), stalking and everything else they can think of.

Editors will soon get fed up if they are picking up the tab.

What a fantastic idea! Hit them where it would hurt the most--the pocketbook. :D

It is no new insight that the readers of tabloids have a tendency towards information that caters to their negative feelings of jealousy and malevolence. Thus the way eg suspects of crimes are deprived of their right to be considered innocent till convicted and exposed to the leery eyes of a public unhappy with themselves and always on the search for new victims they can feel superior to in order to forget about their own miserable life. It's so pathetic, really!

I think their points are that Kate should pay for her own protection from the press. These people don't sound jealous. They sound irriated that the average citizen can't get police protection from crime but Kate gets to have 6 to 12 officers guarding her from photographers and imho, any traffic wardens who even think about holding her accountable for her illegal parking the way all other citizens are.

The point is that Catherine Middleton actually was harrassed by photographers, she does not have permanent protection but obviously is considered in danger at the moment. Any citizen has the right to be protected by the police if there really is a danger. If you are stalked by photographers or other persons, you surely get help from your local police in the States? Her ein Germany you'd get protection, of course.

It is sad that the taxpayers have to pay for protection of a person who probably wishes she is just left alone with her private life. But it's the same with pop stars and other people the media and the public take an interest in. Once they are harrassed, the police has to protect them. And the public has to foot the bill. I don't think it's different in other countries.

As much as one might wish that the money spent on police work is being spent for "worthier" aims, it's the job of the people responsible at the police units to decide when the danger a person is in has reached the point where the state has to take care of it. IMHO it's unfair to blame Catherine for the ongoing rumours about an engagement - she did not (at least not to my knowledge) call the editors telling them how interesting a topic she is. It's the editors who allow the stories about Catherine to be published, the editors who buy the pictures of her, the editor who mislead the public into believing there is going to be an engagement. So the readers should hold the media responisble and not their victim.

Well said Jo. Long before Catherine was on the scene, people couldn't get any reaction from the police until it was too late. Some of these comments come from people who don't even live in the UK, it makes you wonder how many are the same person and how many are on this forum!:ermm:

You are quite right, the police frequently protect pop 'stars' and wanabe celebrity's. They protect murderers, rapists, all sorts of people, either from the press or the public!

KATE'S SECURITY INCREASED AS POTTER LINKS REVEALED

After graduating Kate Middleton's ambition was to set up a mail order children's clothing business - and it seems her interest in all things kiddie runs in the family. A British newspaper has revealed that Prince William's girlfriend is related to the famous children's author Beatrix Potter, of Peter Rabbit fame.

Now Avalon, have they increased her security because of her links to Peter Rabbit? :ROFLMAO:

That's what I got from the article - and I had re-read it twice!
I guess this is the answer to the changing number of Kate's security: she had 6 before the news was leaked and after the world learnt to Beatrix Potter, she decided she needs twice the number.
Thanks God Kate doesn't have any links to Joanne Rowling! :ROFLMAO:

Well there we have it. The final proof that Britain has become a floating nut-house. Who cares?! She's related to Beatrix Potter - so what! What difference does that make? Why does she need security to protect her as a result of being related to Beatrix Potter. The only people who like Beatrix Potter are a handful of gay men and some nursery schoolers, what can they do? Highlight her hair and stick macaroni to her. Honestly.

She needs not even be related to Beatrix Potter. She is related (distantly) to two ladies (or what is a "cousin" anyhow? Could be umteenth grade!) who are equally "related" to betarix Potter - so much that they once got a christmas card from her... Hey, I'm related like this to king Juan Carlos of Spain and the rest of the Bourbons via Henri IV. of Navarre.... Do I get police protection now as well when I visit the Uk? :ROFLMAO::lol:

If you didn't laugh you'd cry. What next? Armed police escorts for people who have been sneezed on by Robert Kilroy Silk? Armed helicopters for people who once rubbed against Rustie Lee on a 25 bus?

thanks for the laugh beatrixfan, the mental image of her being covered by macaroni by little kids, tickled my funny bone.

How authoritative are the reports about all these security police? Some members of the royal family don't have that many, and so far the papers reporting this stuff aren't necessarily of the most believable sort.

I read the Hello article, the connection to Potter is ludicrous and it's not saying that's why she received the police protection. They merely say she got it because the press camped on her doorstep after the parking ticket.

They also say that she, herself, refused a police detail when it was offered to her in 2006. So she should be absolved from all "guilt" in the matter of her protection!

Hmm the BBC now has the story as well, but they don't mention numbers. We should start a poll about how many she'll have by the end of today? 48? Ohhh tabloids.

A typical example in Regardez's post. The BBC says that Kate got the police protection but then goes on to say she was with Prince William the whole time! So the Prince is being escorted to the car with Kate, but apparently it's Kate who's getting the protection!

They say she has been trailed day and night since she left university... I hope he asks her soon so she can move into Clarence House and get some privacy.

The thread is now re-opened.

In just one hour of "discussion" 16 posts were removed.

We understand the mere mention of Ms Middleton arouses strong passions in some members, but the bitterness which comes through in many of the posts (and the ensuing ugliness) is becoming very tiresome.

she have a policeman with her all the time?

my question to people that have issues with catherine having police protection is this: don't you think that merely as a human being she should have the right to feel safe? i can't understand why this would bother anyone anti catherine or otherwise? regardless of the fact that the public pays for it she shouldn't be harrassed when she's going about her life, especially when she's a private citizen. and remember, her parents are tax payers as well so that argument goes both way. i agree with skydragon, let the editors pay for it and we'll soon see a change in the way they get their pictures.

Can't we all agree to talk here only about proven facts and not take unreliable content from tabloids and use it to bash Ms. Middleton? (Didn't mean that as an answer to your post, Duchess. We were writing and posting at the same time, obviously.:flowers:)

I for one still wait for an official statement that Catherine Middleton receives personal police protection....

Oh no, please no new discussions about her holiday plans... Why Poland, anyway? Though I was there two years ago and loved it!

I'm projecting again. A former roommate of mine was from there and I've always wanted to visit!
