Who says the Duke of york title is cursed? Do tell! I love medieval legends, especially when they involve crafty witches and revengeful curses.

I like history and the royals, although I don't know much about them in detail, but I have just joined the site and this is the first topic I have read, it's good stuff isn't it.
I will now go off and do some reading up on here but before I go, I have one question for my Daughters homework to help her with....
Who were the longest serving king and queen of England and when did they reign ?
Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum, Moroccooverland! The longest-serving Queen was Queen Victoria, who reigned from 1837 to 1901. The longest-serving king was George III, who reigned from 1760 to 1820, although there was a regency in effect from 1812 onward.

So anyway, back to the weird coincedences. I personally don't believe there are that many.

Was the second longest reign for a Queen Regnant that of Elizabeth I (Tudor)? I am forgetting her accession year, but I believe she died in 1601?
I think elizabeth II might beat both her namesake and Victoria.

Elizabeth I: born 1533, became Queen 1558, died 1603.

1558-1603. Elizabeth II has already reigned longer than Elizabeth I.

Well Elizabeth II only has 10 more years to go before she beats Victoria's record of 63 years. I don't think she'll beat the record for longest reigning European monarch, 74 years by Louis XIV.
