Princess Marie visits Florence, Italy: February 1-2, 2011

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
All I see is the low-born, non-graduate Marie Cavallier - a lovely person I am sure - being escorted around places of high culture. It takes a great deal of effort to consider Monsieur Cavallier's daughter as a valid representative of one of the oldest, reigning dynasties in Europe. Some, like me, just cannot achieve this.

Do you have any problems with "low - born, non - graduate" people?

I do agree.

I also wondered what she was doing in Italy.

The danish press has also wondered about her Cv.

Se og Hør: Marie Cavalliers CV er fup - hun var kaffebrygger - Avisen.dk

"A fierce and well-educated business woman. It is the image that the Crown would have wanted to give of Marie Cavallier, who d. 24 May marries Prince Joachim, and thus become Denmark's new princess.

But today ShowHype prove that Marie's CV might not be quite as flashy.

During the engagement the Court gave a piece of paper that circulated among journalists, which amongst other things that Marie has a bachelor's degree in marketing and IT from Marymount Manhattan College in New York, and she has studied business and economics in two years at Babson College in Boston.

Something like several media, including News newspaper, wrote about.

But it turns out that is not entirely correct. For according to ShowHype who have sought out Marie's past in both Boston and New York, Marie has no such exams.

- Some people make a big impression on others. Marie left no impression of importance, says Michael Chmra has inspectors at Babson College in Boston, where Mary moved in 1994 and after two years of school left it without a diploma.

After her parents paid 110,000 dollars annually for 3 1 / 2, so Marie could move to New York and then, as the press was led to believe, take its highly acclaimed Bachelor of Science degree in marketing, trading and IT at Marymount College.

But Marie studied liberal arts discipline, which is a very soft and general education, which according to David Nye, professor of American studies at Southern University, has little thesis about it. It writes ShowHype that has come into possession of the official papers from Marymount College.

After studying in New York spent Marie Cavallier and a half years as a trainee in the firm DoubleClick, where she, according to the magazine helped with coffee brewing and data entry into company computers - that is the closest she was seven years came on the marketing, commerce and IT, before she in 2001 turned home Shweiz and joined his stepfather's company. "

And her ability to focus. Here the press ask "Are you bored Marie?"

That is your opinion. But if the former Ms. Cavallier is good enough for the queen of Denmark she should be good enough for us commoners, too.

The quoted source "ShowHype" is not really a reliable source for they mostly dabble in negative gossip. I think the official page of the Danish Royal family is more to believe than that and there they explicitely state that she has a BA degree. I looked up the academic requirements of said college and they accept prior proofs of academical studies (which Marie probably had from Geneva university and Babson College) after reviewing and verifying them. The College has the right to award academic degrees which are recognized officially.

Thank you for researching and sharing the information Kataryn.

As a former liberal arts major I disagree with Mr. Nye. Obviously programs can vary among universities, but IMO it would be wrong to characterize them as "soft." My Bachelor of Arts program was not "soft.";) It was the necessary program that I was required to follow for entrance into the teacher credentialing program at my university. We did not have an undergraduate program for teachers. All credential work was post-graduate.

So only few words and pictures about her visit and that's it?:ermm:

low-born does not necessarily mean low character or low intelligence

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #06, 2011.
Sviptur til Firenze - Quick trip to Firenze. (*)
Written by our correspondent in Italy, Trine Larsen.

Last week our Marie went to Firenze to visit the European University Institute, EUI, of which Denmark currently holds the chairmanship. There 570 students from 29 different countries, fifteen of these students are from Denmark.
Marie went on behalf of the Ministry of Science and the purpose was to put focus on EUI.

Princess Marie arrived in Firenze Tuesday afternoon, along with her LiW, Britt Siesbye. After a brief stay at the hotel it was off to meet two of the Danish students near Piazza St. Maria Novella.
Then off to the Frederick Stibbert Museum, which is headed by a Danish manager, Kirsten Aschengreen, who I didn't know, but she is apparantly a big name within her field. QEII used her to cataloque the royal jewels.
And here Marie was taken on a tour of the magnificent museum.

In the evening la Marie was the guest of honor at a dinner at restaurant L'Osteria di Giovanni, where she and other guests, among them the Danish delegation from the Ministry of Science, were treated to a mouth-watering menu.
Marie returned to the hotel at around midnight.

No sleeping late though! The schedule for Wednesday started at 09.00 with a visit, tour and a conference at EUI.
There must be quite a view from the institute, because Marie used her iPhone to take a few snapshots.
An instrument our reporter seems to have noticed never lie dormant long enough to get dusty!
Marie certainly use the contraption to stay in touch wíth her Joachim and bette Henrik: "But Prince Henrik is still too young to speak with him on the phone - Normally we use Skype, because then we can see eachother and that he understands a little bit better. But unfortunately I forgot my computer this time, so I'll settle with calling on the phone.

After a lunch at EUI it was back to the airport, so no shopping or sightseeing this time. Fortunately Marie has been in Firenze before.

At EUI she said: "It's fantastically inspiring to talk with the students and see how their everyday-life is and hear about their research, their opportunities and the network they are establishing over the borders. To study in an international environment provides mutual inspiration and is very important.
I know from myself, when I studied abroad, even though that was on an entirely different level".

Belle Marie did indeed get the chance to speak Italian: "Oh, I haven't spoken that much on this trip. I do of course understand everything, but I speak better Spanish and because it's so international here, we have mostly spoken French and English. And it has been a very, very exciting visit".

And now it was home to celebrate her birthday?
- "Birthday? Do I have birthday? - When you get as old as I am, then it isn't that fun a thing to celebrate", she said with a big smile.

- It's interesting Marie was on the job on behalf of the Ministry of Science. Joachim, as you know, often represent commecial interests and development and as Marie, with a considerable success, has accompanied him several times now, it's perhaps not so strange that a heavy but less than glamorous ministry has noticed her.
The Minstry of Science, sure could do with a colourbearer!

(*) I believe the English name for Firenze is Florence, but as the Italians say Firenze I believe we should too.

Joachim frequently has many functions that don't get reported on, glad to see the media is reporting more

I agree. Denmark has three couples that can represent the nation very well and I'm glad to see that the media is covering Joachim and Marie's engagements more often.

True! But CP Frederik and CP Mary are busy with new twins and 2 older children....so Joachim and Marie will get more attention now that CP Mary is on maternity leave and CP Frederik is taking some paternity time as well.

Really?

Have you checked other pictures? She is smiling, talking to people around her, taking pictures. If those are not signs of being interested, than I don't know what is...

Nice clothes but she should try to find appropriate hats to wear. The gloves are splendid but she has to carry them more purposefully. Conclusion: looking good with some scope for improvement.

The purpose of gloves generally is to be put on. How purposefully was she supposed to carry them?

That was a comment for those who care about style so you do not need to be worrying about this intervention. Commoner spouses are generally intelligent enough to read and interpret the semiology of fashion for royal houses. Maxima's appalling mistakes reassure us of her wonderful intellectual character and intelligence. Then her wonderful grace and charisma come into play and she demonstrates what a splendid consort she is to Willem and a great asset to the House of Oranje-Nassau. Mette-Marrit has also transformed herself extremely successfully into a massive advantage to the SCGs of Norway and is a bonus for the world of royalty. The little mistakes like Marie Cavallier bundling her gloves into an untidy ball and holding them upside down is endearing. A born royal would either know how to hold gloves or would get away with the kind of infringement that Marie has executed. These are all fascinating aspects of the visual language of our betters.

Has

Has Marie got a stylist? She always wear unfashionable and clothing year's news clothes :)

Oh, come on - you're expecting too much here. As a Brit you may know Princess Eugenie & Princess Beatrice, right? They were born royal and yet they don't act or especially dress like some of us would expect it from royals most of the time. Also, what does a degree say about the intelligence of someone? I know a bunch of students, I wouldn't exactly consider as intellectual. I've always believed that the ability of learning has rarely much to do with real intelligence and genius. I mean, on the contrary, people with dyslexia would be automatically dumb if you think so and I'm sure this is NOT the case!

Times have changed, young royal ladies don't wear hats and gloves all the time.

I enjoyed to watch the pictures of Marie during this visit. I really like her natural smile in this picture. :) Princess Marie of Denmark Visits Florence - Pictures - Zimbio

Charming smile. I would date her straight away. ;-)

As far as I can see, Princess Marie carries her gloves correctly: the "fingers" of the gloves must always show inwards, and over the back of the hand must fall the cuff (gauntlet), sorry don´t know the exact word
