Summary of article in Billed Bladet #31, 2010.
Marie og Joachim til Rio - Marie and Joachim to Rio.
Written by Trine Larsen.

Princess Marie and her Joachim will go to Brazil from the 11-18 September on behalf of Danish commerce, Joachim's specialty.
The details of the schedule have not yet been determined, however they are going to visit Rio de Janeiro, where there is a large exhibition and conference called Rio Oil and Gas EXPO. Here a number of danish companies will be represented.
They are also going to visit Sao Paolo in a pretty busy schedule. As such Bette Henrik will stay at home.

___________________

According to a press report of the Royal House from August 11, the visit
to Brazil will take place from September 12th till September 16th, 2010,
so that's a bit shorter as it had been announced in that first article
(the thread title will therefore be changed).

Cities included in the visit will be São Paulo, Curitiba and Rio de Janeiro
and a final visit will be made to the Amazonas.

A business delegation with 21 participating Danish companies will accompany
Prince Joachim to the "Rio Oil & Gas Trade Fair 2010" and Joachim will open
two companies in São Paulo. Princess Marie will attend various events in
her role as patroness of UNESCO Denmark, which sounds like an interesting
combination.
Joint events of the couple will include meetings with politicians (mayors,
governors), the opening of a design biennale and meetings with Danes living
in Brazil.
So, an interesting visit we can look forward to!

Thank you, Iceflower :flowers:

I see it's Henrik Salling who is covering their visit. Then we can expect a very favourable account of the fair Marie...

Not as favourable I believe as another BB journalist, Ulrik Ulriksen, who managed to write an entire and very flattering article based on our Marie sporting a pony tail.
I may still have that story somewhere in my archive.

Thank you all of your for the many pics :flowers:

It's a good thing, both for Joachim but certainly also for Danish commerce that the fair Marie is on this trip as well.
There would normally not be nearly as much coverage if Joachim went alone.

Danish commerce are more than happy to shower Joachim with petals should he wish for that. With our Marie around as well, I'd say they'd be willing to join hands and dance around J&M in a circle.

Bussiness and commerce is Joachim's specialty and with his Marie around to charm everybody, they are a pretty good team.

Here are more photos from the visit to "Criança Esperança" (Child Hope), a social project aimed at improving life for disadvantaged children in Brazil . It was stablished by TV Globo , initially in partnership with Unicef and currently with the Unesco. The project is one of the most successful brands related to social programs aimed at children needy throughout world.
Tv Globo annually aired a television show which main goal is to collect money for the financing of its projects.

Well said Muhler! I am so glad that this visit is getting the attention it deserves...at least in the Brazilian media anyway.:flowers: I'm surprised that I haven't see this trip as well highlighted in the Danish media outside of Billed Bladet.
I so love how the DRF have these 3 main teams of couples (QMII & Prince Henrik; the CP Couple and Prince Joachim & Princess Marie) carrying out various duties and tasks all over the world, with everyone carrying out activities that show case their strengths!:flowers::)

Great pictures, thanks for posting them.
Its great seeing them on joint events but also quite active on solo events.
Marie's visit to the Cantagalo slum looked quite fun.

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #37, 2010.
Parløb i Brasilien - Working as a couple in Brazil.
Written by Henrik Salling.

First a little back ground info, which you can skip:
As Brazil is emerging more and more as a stable and ever growing economy and political factor in the world, not least in dominating South America, Danish commerce is naturally very interested in getting an even more solid foothold in Brazil.
The trade balance between DK and Brazil is about level and roughly a little less that 1% of the Danish GNP, so Danish commerce is interested in increasing that figure, just as Brazil is interested in implementing high tech solutions for a huge number of problems.
Brazil mainly export agricultural goods to DK, while DK export know how in regards to recycling, alternative energy and as Brazil is about to expand their off shore oil drilling, also an area where Denmark, which is so far self sufficient with energy has some something to offer.
As Denmark directly or indiractly control about 10 % of the world's merchant shipping this is a thing where both parts hope for an increased coorporation as well. In short, there are plenty of opportunities and this is where a genuine Prince, and his charming wife can help open doors.
It certainly does not harm that Joachim is articulate and is a competent businessman himself!

And now for the article:
It all started with an evening event at the Scandinavian Church in Sao Paulo. Here around 300 Danes had shown up for the welcoming reception to see Joachim and perhaps more so our Marie. 60 local scouts constituted the charming honor guard.
It's the first time the fair Marie is in Brazil: "I'm very proud of representing my country and we have both looked forward to go to Brazil.
I haven't been here before but Sao Paulo reminds me a bit of New York. Here is a good energy and the Brazilians seem incredibly sweet.
Prince Joachim was however here in 1991 but I don't think he recalls much of that", laughed the Marie while holding her Joachim's hand.

People were flocking around Marie and when a heavily pregnant woman showed up Marie burst out: "What a big belly. How far are you"? Only a month remaining.

At some point a choir suddenly started singing (*) and la Marie leaned her head against Joachim's shoulder while they listened. Ahh. :p

J&M are staying at a hotel during their visit in Sao Paulo.

Now, few are in doubt that Princess Marie is a woman, and a pretty feminine one of the sort. Her shopping genes are also alive and well. She was observed leaving the Danish consulat going for a little spontanous shopping trip to the local shops. Escorted by what looks to me to be a PET officer, rather than a Brazilian agent. I believe I've recognized at least two PET officers on this trip.

Monday, time to go to work. While Joachim was occupied with business-something, the press flocked in the heels of Marie.
Marie visited the Dorina Nowilles Foundation for blind. Alas, the founder, the charismatic 90 years old Dorina Nowilles died ten days prior to the visit. Marie is patron for UNICEF and interested in schooling and education, this foundation or institute produce more than 1.000 books and sound books for blind. On occassion of her visit they had also made chocolate balls, which Marie naturally had to sample.
Lego bricks are also used at this instutute (DUPLO) as they are used to stimulate blind children. Blind children are just as eager to build shapes they have felt as seeing children are at building things they have seen.
But it was a blind seven year old boy, who on top of that has a weak spine, who stole Marie's heart. Yago da Silva displayed his abillities with a football as well as jumping on a trampoline.
"We have a trampolie like that at home as well", she said before kissing Yago on his cheek.

Q: Have you yourself become good at playing with the coloured bricks?
Marie: "Together with my son I play a lot with Lego (DUPLO) and I think I've become pretty good at it. But that's how it is when you have a little boy".

Then it was off to Liga Solidaria. A place in a poor neighborhood where children can stay and learn things. It was founded by a leading Brazilian soccer player, Rai Souza Viera de Oliveira. They were handed Lego bricks as well and there is a very charming picture in the article, where Marie is handing a boy a large boc of Lego and it's pretty clear that the boy has forgotten all about Marie. Princess? What Princess?

Joachim stated: "I've been looking forward to show Brazil to my wife". (**)

(*) Now, I know that male choirs roam the countryside in Russia and Wales, stalking unsuspecting travellers, but I didn't know that is the case in Brazil as well. ;)

(**) Joachim is naturally and in this context very appropriatly using the formal word for wife.
Informal word for wife = kone.
Formal word for wife = hustru.

Thank you. Paty :flowers:

What are we looking at?

I fear my Portugese is less than good.

Well, it is just the visit she did to the Criança Esperança (Child Hope) foundation. She visited the Gymnasium, the Green space, the Cyber space, the library. At minute 1:12 we see how a girl give to Marie a t-shirt with Criança Esperança logo. HSe also visited the pool where the children attended acuatic gym, and then she attended a performance at the founation teatre, where "La Marie" give a shorth thanking speech. The red text that appear below are the translation into portuguese of her speech.

Thank you, Paty.

And Billed Bladet has a sweet little story: Billed-Bladet - Marie og Joachim gik glip af lille Henriks første skridt

Our Marie has confided to us that their son, Bette Henrik, took his first unaided steps while they are in Brazil.
Their nanny however, has send them video clips of the wee lad's endeavour to become a true biped.
The fair Marie has also told us that Bette Henrik call her "mamma" (*) and that they address him in both French and Danish.

The reporter Henrik Salling ask whether their son comes to the phone when they call home. He doesn't...
I don't know if Henrik Salling his children of his own, but children nowadays tend to look at you in amusement and with their eyes rolled back :whistling: if you start talking to them about stationary phones that needs cords!

(*) "Mamma" sounds almost like "mam mam", which most Danish parents know means food. So mother + food is a pretty logical association. ;)

I'm really impressed with Marie this trip especially her day with the kids from Child Hope. Muhler, again thanks for translating the articles that you do for us.

Totally off topic, but is Princess Marie pregnant? She looks like she's getting a little thicker (not trying to be rude) around her mid section?

Totally off topic, but is Princess Marie pregnant? She looks like she's getting a little thicker (not trying to be rude) around her mid section?

We wont know till we get an official announcement.

On wenesday (same day of Marie's visit to Criança Esperança), Lilly Marinho hosted a dinner in honor of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie. During the dinner Lilly gave a pronounced a short speech in French in honor on Marie, her workfellow*. Prince Joachim also gave a thanking speech where he said he said " I felt as I was with friends"

* Maybe you are asking yourself who Lily Morinho is and why Joachim and Marie attended a dinner in her house. Ok, let me tell then, her full name is Lily Monique de Carvalho Marinho , she was born in Germany and is a member of a Brazilian family moguls media. She uses her status and role in society to give a voice to the voiceless and to promote a culture of peace and non-violence through the media. She was Appointed UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador on 31 May 1999. Here you can find more info about her and her work with UNESCO

thanks for these news and pictures, such an interesting visit for joachim and marie. it's nice they are seeing so much and in different towns. marie seems a genuinely down to earth person.

Thank you, Paty :flowers:

Our Marie has in the meantime been on Brazilian TV. Morning TV to be exact. http://www.billedbladet.dk/Kongelige/Artic...0Morgen-TV.aspx
Seen by around five million viewers.

Click the red link below the main text.

It takes forever before Marie is on. And she is only on for a few seconds. Where she is tasting a cake.
And, wait for it, is among other things asked what language they/we speak in Denmark.
So basically the Brazillian studio hosts ask questions that are only slightly more intelligent than their Danish counterparts.
Princess Marie is also approached by a white rodent... :whistling:
