I wonder if there was ever an explanation given why Prince Joachim and Princess Alexandra
chose a greek/russian name variant Nikolai instead of more english/scandinavian variant
Nicholas or Nikolaus etc.? Was it an homage to emperor Nikolai II, whose mother was Danish?

Nikolai seems to be popular name in Denmark. I am currently reading a book on the history of Denmark and there have been several Nikolais/Nikolajs in Denmark's history, Nikolai Grundtvig for example. The actor Nikolaj Lie Kaas also springs to (my) mind. However, what Lindy writes sounds interesting and plausible.

Anyway, my guess: Benoit Henrik Valdemar Frederik

Valdermar Franz Holgar Gustav

Adolphus Johan Julius Frederik

Robert Olav Frederik Alain

I have come up with some more possibilities...hopefully pleasing to both the French and Danish sides of the little Prince's families...

Only first names, because middle names are for honouring other family members (like Henrik, Alain, Christian, Frederik, Valdemar, Joachim, etc)

My list:
Rupert
Thomas (or Tomaas)
Oscar
Sebastian
Olafur (sounds like Oliver)

I can tell you it definitely WILL NOT be Alexander as some people have been suggesting...to name your son a similar name as your husband's first wife is a bit odd, family name or not...Marie just wouldn't do it!!!

Oliver/Olafur Joachim Alaine Henri

I Like Henrik better than Henri Claus Benedict Joachim Henrik

What about one of the Laborde de Monpezat relatives?

I THINK HRH princess mery of danemark
Frederik
haakon of norway
victoria of sweden
and one marie's brother

I hope he gets a beautiful french name like Pierre or Druex (Drew)

Druex Pierre Henri Axel

I can't wait to see the photos! Will the godparents be announced in advance, or just on the day of the christening?

Christening Announcement

We'll know his names on July 26th :flowers:

I definately think Alain and Henri will be amongst them, and certainly Christian. I will be surprised if the latter is not.

A new guess:

Godfathers:
Crown Prince Frederik
Charles Cavailler
a male family friend of the couple
Prince Henrik or Alain Cavailler

Godmothers:
Crown Princess Mary
a female family friend of the couple
Françoise Grassoit (Marie's mother)
Countess Sophie of Wessex

I don't think they will choose royals just because it's what we expect, I think they'll choose the ones that THEY want. :-D Nikolai and Felix didn't have royal godparents, except from Frederik, which is natural since he is their uncle.

That isn't entirely true. One of Nikolai's godfathers is the Earl of Wessex.

Victor Eduard Joachim Christian, im glad we know the day!

I hope he gets a beautiful french name like Pierre or Druex (Drew)

Druex Pierre Henri Axel

oops, i'm french, pierre is a wellknown first name, but druex...

i never heard that name in France

why not : louis, alexandre, françois, sébastien, jérôme, arnaud, clément,
philippe, guillaume, laurent, alexis, vincent, charles, pascal, maxime, roland

I will say: Frederik, Christian, Henri, Alain

The final result will be on 26 July, the day of the christening.

Well i don´t have a clu about his firstname,so i´m guessing on his other names...
Henrik,Marie,Alain :)

I think Alain and/or Henri will definitely be among the baby's names. They would honor Marie's French heritage,as well as and both Joachim and Marie's fathers.

Maybe they won't use Henri because it is one of Felix's middle names. They probably will use Alain (father's name of Marie)

I think these sound good..
- Johan André Joachim Alain
- Maxime André Alain Joachim ( Maxime or Maxim )

My guess is Christopher David Frederik Alain. But then again, you never know with Joachim.

It won't be Alexander, everyone seems to forget, that would be SO inapropriate.

Why not, because of Alexandra?
Princess Alexandra
Princess Alexandrine Margrethe
Prince Alexander Joachim

Maybe something less traditional for a first name (although still regal sounding):

Sebastien, Xavier, Gabriel, Oliver, Maximilian
