Confirmation of Prince Nikolai: May 18, 2013

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I love the official group photograph with his parents, godparents and grandparents (and 'Big Henrik' and 'Little Henrik' sat together ).

I would prefer the celebration of this rite with other confirmants - boys and girls around his age (Like Marius Borg Hoiby had).

The pictures were off to me, Marie seems to be put to the side which looks like she was almost left out. There was a picture r two where she was closer to the Queen. I personally think she should've been much closer to the family or not be in the pictures.

I agree, I would have left Marie, Martin & Hendrik jr. out for the official pictures that are posted on the DRF website. Imo it would look better than eg Marie looking like the fifth wheel.

Well, it won't happen!
It goes without saying that in Denmark confirmations are about confirming your baptism! But ...there's a strong secular side to the event which is about family gatherings, buffets and dinners, dancing, gifts for the confirmand - specially cash - and all sorts of surprises/showing off. !
It's a big event and there's far more to it than the church service!

Now suppose the RFs children joined an ordinary confirmation and had to squeeze themselves into the pews allotted :D:D:D... all attention would focus on the RF rather than the confirmands!

Thank you to all who posted photos, I particularly like the official one of Alexandra, Nikolai and Joachim. Nikolai looked smart and little Henrik was adorable- especially in the video when it looked like he was holding Nikolai's hand but then went and held Joachim's instead (this can be seen at 0:40)! It was nice to see Prince Edward attending, I was hoping to see photos of Christian and Isabella; perhaps we will get some later on.

Noblesse & Royautes has a short article with a couple of photos of Nikolai's confirmation:

The official pictures are great. Very nice to see Edward there for his godson.

Nikolai was looking so dapper today, a very beautiful and sweet confirmand. It's so lovely that Edward and Sophie went (and so nice to hear that they're staying with Mary and Frederik). I absolutely love the picture of Nikolai and his parents. Personally, I would have split up the group photo in two, one of Nikolai, Alexandra, Joachim and the godparents; and one of Nikolai and his immediate family.

I would love to see Mary and the kids!

How I"ve missed Alexandra in this family !

I agree with those who said Marie looked a little out of place. When you watch the video it appears that she is making space for Margrethe and Henrik but then Henrik stands behind. She maybe also wanted to give Alexandra her rightful place.

The same thought crossed my mind, too.

Far as I know of/can tell, Marie and Alex get along just fine, but this WAS Nikolai's confirmation, and Alex IS his mom, so maybe Marie was being respectful of that?

That's what I wondered.

Yep.

I agree.

I agree, and if she had held Little Henrik's hand, the space between Marie and the rest of the family would not be that empty.

I find the official picture actually more odd, with Marie and not Nikolai and his parents in the center of the group and picture. (Poor Marie, she is either too far away or too much in the middle!;)) But I guess she stood where she was told to stand.

I would have placed some of the godparents on the other side and then Marie could have been next to Frederik and behind her parents-in-law.

great official photos!!!!! I miss princess athena!

Can't wait to see if they've got more pictures from the confirmation (or more of Edward and Sophie, I'm still absolutely over the moon that they came).

That's a photo from October last year, I think, Slovenian State Visit.

Someone on another forum said the one of her and Fred is from the party after the confirmation, taken at the same time as the other photos on the front cover. Of course I am sure in the actual magazine their is a photo of Mary.

As can be expected Billed Bladet's coverage of the confirmation is pretty extensive!

Summary of an whole appendix in Billed Bladet #21, 2013.
Written by Trine Larsen who has a special relationship with that branch of the DRF.

As you know Nikolai, age thirteen, was confirmed at Fredensborg palace chapel, as is tradition in the DRF.
Before that he and his class had been taught about the confirmation at Garnisons Kirke. The same church to which the kindergarten, Vincent, Isabella and Josephine is attending, belongs.
It was the royal confessionarius the likable Erik Normann Svendsen who performed the confirmation.

At noon there was the show for the press at the stairs, with the dachshunds entertaining and all...
Here Nikolai was sporting the Rolex watch he recieved from his mother, Martin Jørgensen and Felix. He was also looking dapper with his Burberry tie.
When the family went inside, Nikolai was in the lead with his mother and bonus-mother, Marie forming the rearguard. It was here bette Henrik, who was holding both Joachim and Marie's hand decided to take some leaps - and a lively child in one hand, stillettos on the feet and walking up stairs can be complicated, so our Marie almost lost her balance but fortunately Alexandra secured her with a good grip.

Then it was time for lunch with the family and guests, 34 in total. Little Athena was there too, there is a picture of her sitting in her seat in the car next to Marie. It is presumed she took a nap during the confirmation.
Prince Edward and Sophie who stayed at M&F at Amalienborg, drove in the same escorted cortege to Fredensborg as M&F, but not in the same car. The twins stayed at home at Amalienborg.
Mary was indeed wearing a light dress with a nice hat in what looks to me to be in the same hue as the dress.
During the lunch Joachim gave a heartwarm speech to his son. (He is reportedly very good at giving such speeches).
After the lunch Nikolai and a couple of relatives went outside. Christian being among them. In contrast to the others Christian, being the youngest, had by now completely dispenced with the formalities and was wearing light summer pants, a shirt hanging out and a tie that was still holding on to his neck.

The lunch ended in the early afternoon, but the celebrations didn't!
In the evening there was a party for Nikolai in downtown Copenhagen at Gallery Asbæk, with food delivered from an Italian restaurant.
Here some 50 guests were invited and the dresscode was much more informal.
First to arrive was Nikolai with his mother, brother and bonus-dad, who appears to have misplaced his razor, with Felix looking distinctly stylish!
Alexandra was wearing a grey-bluish assymetric lace-like dress cut above the knee. With long lace see-through sleeves. - She pulled that one off well, methinks.
Next to arrive were Joachim and Marie, who strolled from Amalienborg on that lovely evening. Marie wearing a low-cut knee-long light sleeveless dress, with lace-thingies. Now, Joachim is a gentleman and as such he doesn't know what "casually informal" is, so he is forgiven... He was wearing red pants, a blue shirt with no less than two bottons unbottoned (yes, he was practically naked!) and a dark jacket.
M&F arrived later. Frederik knows perfectly well what "casually informal" is, so let's skip him. Mary was wearing a dark green simple dress with short sleeves and cut below the knees looking very stylish.
(Yeah, yeah, bear with me. - I'll provide some scans later, but it's fun to attempt being a fashion-reporter :p).

Here Nikolai recieved a present from Billed Bladet by Trine Larsen, it was something for his interest in parkour. And team JiYo, who is the best parkour team in DK at present entertained and demonstrated what the sport is all about.
Here it was Alexandra's turn to give a warm and moving speech for her son.
Later on there was dancing.
The guests were primarily friends of Joachim and Alexandra and her family from Hong Kong.
There is no mentioning of the Regent Couple, nor Prince Edward, so I presume they weren't around.

:previous:thank you Muhler:flowers:
Nice to read about this family event.

And its a great injustice that you skipped describing Frederik :p

No loss there. Both Frederik and Martin were boringly casual. :p

See for yourself.

Thank you, Muhler, for the summary, it's very much appreciated that you took the time to write all of that (if I know Billedbladet correctly, the coverage indeed has been very excessive) :flowers:

I love Nikolai's (rather daring) choice of pants for the late party, he's definitely his father's son - in the area fashion at least (though I think he pulls his daring fashion choices off much better than Joachim ). I also adore Mary's dress for the evening party, it looks really stylish and appropriate for the event. Frederik and Martin (and Felix ) look dapper as usual.

How lovely is this picture of Alexandra and Marie? I really love and respect how Joachim and Alexandra have managed to get along so well after the divorce. Alexandra and Marie look like they're really enjoying each others company (and so also a very great and quick move of Alexandra that she managed to "catch" Marie before she landed on all four).

Thanks for this report, so in the magazine they didn't add any pic or info on the Wessex couple? Thank you. At least Mary fans, finally got a chance to see what she wear :)

My god a Rolex for your confirmation .... I nearly forgot we were talking about a prince  For comparison, I got a bike back in the day.

Apart from one picture the Wessex weren't shown in the magazine: https://www.box.com/s/uz6uu81z81sl6v4spjif

Similar to the two Fairy Tale kindly posted.

Edward was in the official pics of course.

You are welcome, Archduchess Zelia and yes, that's the tripping moment.
