They are going to some truly bizarre places for a crown princely couple. I bet Nebraska and Idaho have never seen the likes of a royal before. What on earth are they going there for? Idaho does have potatoes though. I wonder if they will be taking any home?

I believe it's Iowa, not Idaho, but indeed not too commonly visited by royalty!

Loving that they're in the States!!!

I am from Illinois, and so wish I could've been in Chicago today, if only to get a glimpse of Frederik and Mary. It's a little surreal to know they are in my home state!

In Nebraska they're visiting the Dana College, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary. The college has Danish-American history I believe.

Iowa, I have no idea why. According to the Grand View University press release, Fred's grandfather visited the college way back when, so maybe that's the connection?

Elementary - they are visiting places which still have strong Danish ties. As JessRulz already said the Dana college has a Danish origin - it was founded by Danish immigrants. I believe that QMII and prince Henrik and the late king Frederik and queen Ingrid also visited this college.
The Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa, has Danish roots as well so that's the reason for the visit. The visits to Nebraska and Colorado are for Danish industry - Novozymes and Vesta (wind-mill factory).
