:previous: Alas, one has been killed and many injured in what is now the storm with the most severe wind speeds on record. For periods of hurricane strength.
Fortunately it passed so quickly that the damages appear to be limited.

Here is a big pic of Mary and the actress Sofie Gråbøl, who was treated recently for breast cancer.

Didn't know Sofie Grabol had been ill - so her hair is now growing back, by the look of it.

Lots of Danish TV shows here in Oz thanks to SBS.

They've had a growing audience with the three "The Killings" series, "Borgen" and even my husband watched every episode of the two, or was it three, of the series about PET. (I say "even" because of having to read sub-titles, but he enjoyed the show so much, he didn't mind them.)

(Can't think of the name of it at the moment, but had CP Mary's friend the actress Ellen "Something" in it.)

Hopefully Sofie has the illness behind her - she looked glowing in the photos.

Cheers, Sun Lion.

That sure is good enough for me. :)

With the show running on the TV, it was funny to see the children interrupt the interview of M&F and that Christian could actually remember the Sydney Opera. He recalls that it was "very triangular".
Vincent wasn't that impressed, he had just been building a big house. So no big deal!
Anyway, he and sister Josephine were a bit sleepy, because they hadn't had their middday nap.

favorite part of tonights show! love they included the kids in their shows :)
great show, i listens a lot to the price winner mø. this has been a great great trip and thank you to all in this thread mary&frederik can for sure travel home with big smiles on their faces..

Wonderful posts everyone.

That must have been some storm Muhler and Roskilde.

Hi Lilla - good news it was in English - will be able to watch peoples' faces and not the bottom of the screen trying to follow what's going on.

(Is English so wide-spread in Denmark that the broadcast would have had a big audience in this language? I'm afraid most Aussies are mono-lingistic - unless they or their parents migrated here, of course.)

Today's "Telegraph" mustn't have had time to include the big event, but they have a nice story, and large photo of CP Mary shopping yesterday afternoon.

The show was subtitled here.
Anyway, it was after all so uncomplicated that I'd say most Danes would be able to follow the show without too many problems.
Especially as the two presenters spoke such "neutral" English. - With all due respect for dialects, it can be very distracting for a foreigner like me to watch a say Discovery show with a narrator speaking with a say heavy northern English accent.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the Australian presenter (I didn't like their jokes by the way, they came across to me as being condencending towards the Aussie presenter) but I doubt the Danish presenter would distract Australian viewers in regards to accent.

TV is the big teacher here, as all foreign (exept for small children) movies and TV-shows are subtitled, so everybody here are exposed to English in particular since infancy. - To hear John Wayne speak German, well....it's not quite the same thing.

Didn't know the actress Sofie Grabol had been ill - so her hair is now growing back, by the look of it.

That must be Rejseholdet, or Unit one as I believe it's known internationally. - Which does exist by the way. Being the national police's special crime investigation team. Albeit that the real ones focus more on councelling and aiding the local police, rather than running around and doing all the investigation themselves.
The shows caused some controversy as they were based on real cases. And caused in at least one case some debate because the victims and other figures were indentifiable from real life.

And you are thinking of Ellen Hillingsøe.

ADDED:

Mary makes her charming "Oh! I just switched over to the Danish" moment 30:40 minutes into the show.

The clip with M+F and all children are 0:42 minutes into the show. But there are several clips with M+F during the show, including one in which they sail around in Copenhagen and tell, so if you have the time and desire then watch the whole show.

Almost all Danes speak and understand English. I don't think the broadcast in this language has had any negative effect on the numbers of viewers.

I find it understandable for most Aussies to be mono-linguistic. You don't have the need to learn another language. Danes do - there isn't that many people in the world speaking Danish:flowers:

That's it Muhler. Didn't know the scripts were based on real events, though I remember being struck by the references to the Royals in the first few episodes at the time of seeing them.

Yes, that's the lady's name. Didn't realise she and CP Mary knew each other at the time I was watching the show last year and the year before, but have since seen photos from Mary's early days in Denmark at Ellen's child's Christening, and more recently them lunching together etc.

You're right Lilla.

I forget about the size of Denmark sometimes - and the size of Australia.

(While I'm in Sydney in a sleeveless top with the fan on, my mother and the cat are on the phone in Tasmania with the house shut up and the heating on all day.)

There are only about one million less people in Sydney, than there are in the whole of Denmark.

No wonder the population feel close to their Royals - no-one is going to get "lost in the crowd" there.

Cheers, Sun Lion. :flowers:

P.S. And yes Muhler, John Wayne needs to be seen with his own voice.

Now it's time to go to bed. It's almost midnight here in Denmark (and the storm has finally subsided) I just want to say thank you to all, with a special thanks to Sun Lion and Lady Rosie, in order to follow this visit through you. The visit has received a massive coverage, but it has been really special to follow it (almost live) through you two.

It has been a delightful week, filled with many lovely moments, so many people greeting them at the streets and both Frederik and Mary have resembled a couple who have enjoyed their visit and not least each other in the city where they fell in love. They have shown once again that they are a perfect team.

And I must admit I just got even greater desire to visit Sydney one day. And who knows, maybe one day it happens. I hope so.

TV reporting that the Royal Couple are flying out of Australia tonight, after the "Prizes" event.

Sun Lion.

Morning TV shows now saying M and F are still here - Tuesday 29th - and will be flying out of Sydney today.

If so, they awoke to a dense fog over the Harbour that must have rolled in from the sea overnight.

Warm day though.

Cheers, Sun Lion.

Best Wishes Roskilde, and thank you for your links and photos from last night's "Prize" event - haven't been able to see much of it yet, but will be recording the broadcast on Friday here in Oz.

P.S. How grown up the children have become - and what a pretty little girl Josephine has turned into.

Good to know, as this Canadian hopes to visit your gorgeous country someday and my Danish is not so good. ;)

I know one of our many cable/dish only channels here in Canada was showing The Killing, but I never was able to see it for some reason. BTW...That same channel introduced me and other Canadians to the crew of HMAS Hammersley. They're still showing two eps of Sea Patrol in the afternoon during the week, which I am trying to burn on DVD when I can as it's not available for Region 1 for sale darn it!!

Thanks to all of our Aussie Members for the amazing.coverage you've provided of this tour and Congrats to those who got to meet them during the tour. All the reports and pictures were much appreciated by this Canadian. :). Safe journeys home to TRH!!

Hi Tiggersk8 - the Royal Couple certainly had the most amazing weather while they where here.

Today started with really dense fog all over the Harbour, and when that thinned out, the bushfire smoke came back down - didn't last long though, as what's called a "Southerly Buster" came in and has brought winds that almost had me flattened a few times.

I've just checked and it's currently blowing at 72 KPH.

I had an errand back in the city and I noticed Danish flags are still flying over Circular Quay and at the hotel where the Royal Couple stayed. Is it confirmed that they've left? (It's coming up to 3.30pm Tuesday here.)

Yes, I just saw Lisa McCune from "Sea Patrol", with the gentleman who sang Happy Birthday to the Opera House at the Gala Concert, about three weeks ago - in the lead roles in "South Pacific", on stage at the Opera House. Immaculate production, very talented lady, very popular here in Oz.

Cheers, Sun Lion. :flowers:

I've just seen an earlier news report saying M and F were due to fly out of Sydney International Airport today.

If they didn't get away this morning, they may have trouble now with the current conditions.

(The airport always has problems when the weather is rough - the runway is built out into Botany Bay, and is always on the news when there are disruptions because of wind.)

Sun Lion.

I've just come across a nice column in today's paper about CP Frederik.

It's almost 6.30pm here, but I've just gotten a chance to see it.

The lady journalist and her father attended last night's "Prize" event.

You see, not only did Frederik meet Mary thirteen years ago at the Olympics - he also met this gentleman when he sailed up and was helped to berth.

Handing up a carton of beer, Frederik joined in to watch a sailing event.

The journalist reports that "despite the regal tone and dress code", there was a "lack of pretension" last night.

She also reports that the Danish Royals have an advantage over the British Royals.

Lacking constitutional obligations, the Danish Royals are here because they want to be.

Cheers, Sun Lion.

P.S. Is it possible M and F haven't left yet?

The Lynggaard yacht is back on the Harbour, and it is absolutely foul weather out there.

It has been sheltering against Vaucluse, behind a little island, since I got home earlier this afternoon.

(Correction - Point Piper, not Vaucluse.)

(Perhaps this weather is nothing, if you are used to sailing in Danish waters/conditions.)

The first day after such a big visit has suddenly ended is always a bit "empty", isn't it :D 5 so intense days with new about M+F every 5 minutes.

Sun Lion, I could well imagine Mary will stay a day in Sydney. Her sisters and brother are still in town (I'll tell more about below), but Frederik will have to travel soon, as he has to be in Israel tomorrow. But perhaps the bad weather holding them back?

Billedbladet tells us that when the Award Show was over, the informal part of the event screwed up. They all enjoyed themselves in the Opera House's famed café. Here Mary and Frederik had a blast with the Danish prize Winners and all the other guests for a little after midnight.

Thereafter the most guests went out into the nightlife and enjoyed a great night in Sydney. Mary and Frederik too.. They continued the party in the city in the company of, among others, Mary's two sisters and her brother and several of the couple's Australian friends.

I hope they visited Slipp Inn ;)

this is a very cute moment and Mary recovers well. I guess she is use to Danish now :D

Gifts of the Interview with the children, found on tumblr

That was in another life, Frederik.

part of the interview
Mary: We want them to understand where I came from. Is Australia a country? How are the Australians? There are many funny animals.
Frederik: Different animals than anywhere else. It’s fantastic.
Mary: It is important to have it as a part of their luggage- to have a relationship with the place their mother comes from.
*the kids enter*
Mary and Frederik: Hi!
Frederik: Come and visit!
Mary: And yes, they show to be extra happy with Australia. They say “Mom when are we going to Australia?”. It’s great they want to go, and understand what it means. ”What do you like about Australia?” “It’s warm and I can wear shorts all the time.” They are right *laughs*
Mary: Christian, remember you have seen Sydney’s Opera House?
Christian: Yes
Mary: What did you think about it?
Christian: I thought it was very triangular
Mary: You’re right! Good memory!
Vincent: Mom, I have built a large house. ;)

Mary: Do you? How tall is the house?
Frederik: Is it higher than you, Vincent?
Mary: Are you tired? That is because you have not slept.
Frederik: Haven’t they?
Mary: No, they have not slept.

with a side of their profile, Christian looks a lot like Frederik

Thank you to everyone who provided us with reports, photos and videos. :)

I enjoyed looking at the many photos of the visit, it seemed to be very successful. I would imagine that Frederik and Mary have lots of stories to tell family members!

My mother was pleased to hear that The Killing had received an award from Frederik and Mary as she's a fan of the show.

The gifs of Frederik, Mary and the children during an interview are very cute (as were the photos of warm moments between Frederik and Mary), Josephine is so sweet. And I loved Vincent's "mum, I have built a large house" comment.

I'm a little surprised this is getting in the news.

Isn't that what usually happens when the BRF visit Australia?

Here in DK it's common knowledge that flowers (except perhaps one or two) to the DRF end up at local hospitals or retirement homes.

- Well, no matter. It's good that the patients appreciated it. They sure need something to brighten up their lives as it is.

Parts of the interview have been placed on the DRF website

"In connection with the Crown Prince Couple's prices in 2013, which was held on 28 October 2013 at the Sydney Opera House, were shown a video clip where royal couple sailing in the harbor and talk about, among other things architecture."

A correction to an earlier post -

I had another look at my photos last night, and now realise that the lady I thought was CP Mary's LIW Caroline when I saw the Royal party go on the Harbour cruise aboard the little yacht "Xpress" last Thursday, is, I think, actually Denmark's Ambassador to Australia.

I've also now noticed CP Mary being fitted with a microphone in a few shots, so the camera crew who boarded the vessel with everyone, and who had special access earlier that morning at the Opera House, must be shooting official footage - perhaps for a future documentary.

(This would explain why they sailed back and forth in front of the Opera House - filming that area of the Harbour, rather than a "pleasure trip", where they would have sailed further afield and seen more of Sydney.)

Here is the story about an encounter with Frederik some 13 years ago and a free beer. - I believe this is what Sun Lion referred to: No Cookies | Perth Now

Muhler, the flowers of the BRF are sent to hospitals etc. So this is standard practice. Don't know why the journalist thought it was news except that perhaps in this day and age of "live feeds" they have to say something if it is a quiet day.

Sun Lion, I believe it was LIW Tanya who accompanied M on the Aust. visit.

I hope the weather has calmed down in DK and our members their are safe.

Don't forget The Protectors! Another great DK show.

Thank you to all for translation and screen shots of the family in the awards video. I can't wait until Friday night to watch it on TV.

Nice article/story.

"And while it was a less remarkable run-in than the one that took place with Mary Donaldson one fateful evening at the Slip Inn, it was an exchange that sheds light on why Australians have embraced the Crown Prince as the ultimate son-in-law." ;);)

"But the Danish royals have an advantage over their British counterparts. Once they have dazzled the locals they return home, unencumbered by any constitutional obligations. They are here because they want to be, not because they have to."

Roskilde PM'ed an article to me from the serious newspaper Berlingske Tidende. It was an analasys basically concluding that not only are M%F taking over from the Regent Couple, they have to a large degree taken over.
And that QMII can now lean back with a big proud smile. She created an environment, where this smooth transition could take place and where M&F could try flapping their wings.
With Mary in particular utillising her position to promote heavy weight issues, both nationally and internationally. She is in regards to the PR and political punch she has, basically the queen of Denmark in anything but name now.

is this the article?
Kongehusets generationsskifte er godt i gang - Nationalt | www.b.dk

if so, I found it a very nice read. Mary is always seen as the hardest worker (and rightfully so), but Im glad they threw in some praise for Frederik as well:flowers:

"The performance (Ironman) was an Australian media to call the Crown Prince for ' The Action Prince ' and the history of the royal iron man went around the globe. Besides the physical performance he showed here the courage to stand on equal footing with everyone else and thus run the risk of such . getting an injury in public could force him to give up.

While participation in the Ironman created huge publicity and attention , is the most important transformation in the work that might have drawn so large headlines. Whether it is the conduct of state visits , business promotion or opening of the conference , he is finding his form. He delivers not always the streamlined performance as the professional politician or business man, but he establishes contact by virtue of its openness and approachability ." :flowers:

Polyesco have made a great translation of a part of the interview in a previous post, thanks.

Here's a full translation of the entire clip. Enjoy :flowers:

VIDEO: Interview med Kronprinsparret i forbindelse med Kronprinsparrets Priser 2013 - Kongehuset

Frederik: You (Mary) is married into a family who use and have always used old buildings and the culture heritage we have much of in Denmark. And that we have chosen to live in.

Speaker: But despite the cultural differences the Crown Prince Couple found a common path as they together refurbished their home, Frederik's 8's mansion.

Mary: You (Frederik) has been much more courageous than me in terms of what we could do in terms of decoration or furnishing etc.

Clips from 2010 is shown...

Frederik: The Crown Princess comes from a different upbringing, which was closer to each other - also physically. And so I have always wanted it to be in my adult age. So it was just lovely that we totally agreed on how close we want to be as a family. It's one of the many things I have received from you, Mary.

Clips from 2010 shown. Isabella looks at the painting and says: "See, a buuuutterflyyy."

Mary: We want them (the children) to understand my background, where I come from. Which country is Australia? How are the Australians? Are there many fun animals?

Frederik: Yes, there's different animals than anywhere else on earth.. It's great.

Mary: So we think it's very important that they also have it as part of their luggage. And that they have a relation to the country where their mother is coming from.

Frederik: Yes exactly.

Frederik and Mary hear the children in the hallway ...

Mary: Heeey..

Frederik: Hi Kids, come on in, Vincent and Phine...

Mary: They (the children) ask me "Mom, when are we going to Australia again?" And I think it's great they want to go, and understand what it means. When I ask what it is they really like about Australia they say "It's so warm and I can wear my short ALL the time."

Mary: Christian, do you remember you have seen the Sydney Opera House?

Frederik: We're talking about Australia.

Christian: Yes, I thought it was very... triangular.

Mary and Frederik: Yeah, you’re right.

Mary: It's very good remembered.

Vincent: Mom, I have built a biiig house...

Mary: Oh, have you built a even bigger house today?

Isabella: Yes he has built a HUGE... (shows how huge with her arms)

Mary: How tall is the house?

Frederik: Is it higher than you, Vincent?

Isabella: It's so high here (jumping with her arm in the air)

Mary: Oh, you're tired, Vincent? That's because you haven't slept after lunch as usual.

Vincent: Yes.

Frederik: Haven't they..

Mary: No, not today.

Frederik: (Caresses Josephine on her cheek) Oh, so you haven't slept today..

Thank you again for everybody's comments, pictures, etc. I am watching the award right now and just watched the part with the children. Such a lovely, lovely family! I'll never stop saying this.

I had to laugh at Prince Vincent's attempt to put his finger in his nose and Frederik's quick intervention!! a CLASSIC! :ROFLMAO:

Hi All - I have just had a chance to catch up on everyone's latest posts, (apart from a quick correction I added earlier today).

Hi Roskilde - thank you for this update following Monday night's event, and yes, back to the "real" world now.

I didn't see anything about this here in Oz. (Perhaps some Danish media where more aware of what was going on, than any Australian reporters.)

Sounds like no-one wanted the time here, to come to an end. I bet they had a great night out.

Yes Muhler and polyesco, that is the article I saw in yesterday's paper, and hi Lady Rosie, yes, I saw a lot of LIW Tanja and got some better photos of her, by accident, than of CP Mary, as the security men just swarm around M on all sides, but Tanja is left standing clear of all the people!

Thank you Roskilde for the info re CP Frederik's duties in Israel.

I didn't know he had to "fly off", literally, so quickly.

I saw the Lynggaard yacht leave it's overnight anchorage around 11.00am this morning, and sail around the corner to Rose Bay.

I thought the motor launch sailing alongside might have been security, but it must have been just some Aussies telling them what a beautiful vessel she is!

Best Wishes Everyone,

Sun Lion. :flowers:
