Does anyone know if Mary has landed back in DK? Considering the terrible storm that's been going on.

Hope all is well and stay safe to all the Danes.

I am not sure if this had been post before.

Frederik and Mary took an afternoon cruise around Sydney Harbour (Saturday, 26th Oktober) with about 30 friends and family members.
I can spot Jane, Patricia, John, Amber and Hamish Campbell.

What fun! So great to see the children in the interview and that Josephine is called fine by her father at least. But I am glad for them that they had some time away from the children too. I hope the children will be able to visit Oz before too long.

MetroXpress has today another article about the Mary effect

Mary fordobler australsk turisme i Danmark - MX.dk

Translation of part of the article:

Crown Princess Mary is a really good deal for Denmark. After she has been married to Frederik, the number of paid overnight stays from Australians have more than doubled.

- Mary has helped to strengthen the branding of Denmark and has opened Australians' eyes to Denmark as an attractive destination they want to visit, says chief consultant of the Danish Business, Susanne Nordenbæk.

Figures from Statistics Denmark show since 2005 the number of Australian overnight stays increased by 37.000, so that in 2012 was approximately 69.000.

And that means money in the till. Based on data from VisitDenmark has Danish Chamber of Commerce calculated that the many visits have given 74 million extra Danish kroner in tourism revenues in 2012 compared to 2005.

It was a delight to see the prize giving at the spectacular Opera House on television; one hopes that Utzon would have been so proud of his elegant masterpiece and its place in international architecture's top 100, his Crown Prince and Princess and the fact that his wonderful building has been so instrumental in bringing two such far-flung countries together. It was good, too, to see how relaxed Mary and Frederik were - what a lovely couple they are: there is always a general sense when they're here that they are determined to please and be pleased. It was a great opportunity to see some of the outstanding and talented professionals, artists and volunteers from Denmark, although my knowledge was generally restricted to those marvellous TV programs, The Killing, Borgen and The Protectors, amongst the best shows, ever, shown on television in Australia.

Let's hope that this charming, friendly, hard-working and handsome couple find it possible to return to Australia, with the children, in the not too distant future. For those in Australia who missed the program, it can be viewed on SBS on demand.

Hi Roskilde, so appreciate these photos of the Saturday cruise, thank you.

We saw the "Prize" event on SBS last night, and got to relive last weekend a bit.

CP Mary is still making "news" here.

There are free community magazines delivered in different areas of Sydney each Friday afternoon.

Our area's is the "Mosman Daily", and yesterday's issue has an article and nice photo on page three of the Royal Couple meeting CP Mary's childhood friend - that you mentioned in one of your early posts in this thread.

A bit more detail - the friend, Melanie Cleary, is a teacher at the "Redlands Junior School", here in this part of Sydney.

That is where the children, at the first Opera House event you may have seen in photos at the time, came from.

Melanie accompanied class 5A, as that is the class that the Danish Consul-General, Mr Michael Hansen's son Carl attends, and he, the Consul-General, arranged the excursion.

Hoping the coming week's women's magazines will have a round up of the Royal visit - out day after tomorrow - and then it really will be all over.

Best Wishes, Sun Lion.

(P.S. A quirk of Australia- the "Mosman Daily" comes out weekly, and the "Women's Weekly" comes out monthly!)

PP.S. Monday 4th November now here in Sydney, and this week's magazine's both have double page spreads of the latter part of the Royal Couple's visit - the first part being covered in last week's issues.

One has a full page photo of M and F's faces with quotes from CP Mary's sister-in-law Leanne, and the other has several of the family cruise photos Roskilde posted, plus a round-up of some other the official events.

Also, CP Mary is in a full page feature regarding her various "secrets" for health- quoting her former fitness trainers Jacob Sondergaard and Tore Munch.

Here in DK it's common knowledge that flowers (except perhaps one or two) to the DRF end up at local hospitals or retirement homes.

- Well, no matter. It's good that the patients appreciated it. They sure need something to brighten up their lives as it is.
I think because we dont have royals everyday in our news its nice to see that sort of a gesture from a celebrity. We get a better sense of who they are and what they are like.

Thanks for the update about the Australian covering, Sun Lion

May I ask you what Mary's sister-in-law Leanne says?

Hope all is well down there!

Thanks for all the updates from the CP couple's successful visit to Down under. As a Dane I'm proud that Fred and Mary left a favourable impression in Oz! The Danish media however mostly relay the positive feed backs and it makes me wonder:
How extensive was the recent coverage of M & F Down under?
Was it mainly in the Sydney- media?
Is the focus on Mary and Fred 'too much' for some Australians? And especially those who favour their own royal Family?

You see, from my vantage point it almost looks as if the Australians have established a 'rival royal family'- or am I reading too much into the jubilant reports ??

Just wondering . . I suppose that the Cambridges are bound to upstage the popularity ratings next year

Kind regards
Viv

Hi Roskilde.

I didn't buy the magazine where Leanne was quoted - "Woman's Day" - but she said something along the lines of how happy the family was to be able to be together, and what fun they'd all had, how important it had been for them all to see each other - (on the family cruise they all enjoyed).

She is quoted in the magazine I did buy - "New Idea" - but it is an old quote in the article about CP Mary's fitness - "Mary doesn't follow a strict diet at all ... she is so active she just burns the calories".

That is an old quote I've seen before in a few other articles.

(Leanne is quoted every now and then about CP Mary - I seem to see more quotes from her than I do from Patricia, Jane, Amber etc., whenever there's an article in a magazine.)

I brought "New Idea" as they've had fun with the family cruise photos - "Queen of the harbour" where they've put a ship's wheel in the wording in place of the "o" in "harbour", and a photo of the vessel as though it's a stamp.

Very nice souvenier article.

(Also, you're able to scan the page and then watch videos of the tour - the modern world!)

Truely, M and F had the most wonderful weather when they we're here, especially the first two days when there were a lot of outdoor events.

Sydney had another chocking day of "solid" smoke all day Saturday, (it's now Wednesday morning, 6th Nov here), and the storm that came last week on the Tuesday after their visit ended, brought lots of trees down on cars and houses, and heavy hail in places.

I see Roskilde, CP Mary has now already attended another event back in Denmark.

Hope all is well there for everyone - coming into winter for you of course, and soon the shortest day of the year. We'll be glad if the worst of the bushfire season is now behind us. Still about forty fires burning, but not a danger to livestock and property.

Best Wishes, Sun Lion.

Hi Viv. I think M and F's visit, though based in Sydney, would have had extensive coverage around Australia, as our TV news reports are national.

The commercial channels start early with news, (5.00am), and finish late, (10.30pm), and really, it is only between noon and three that there are no news shows on any channels.

(I think it is very competative - whoever "wins" the news, "wins" the ratings.)

During their visit, I couldn't keep up with all the TV coverage, there was so much. Especially during the daytime news shows, as the studios crossed to their reporters "on the ground" acompanying M and F about.

CP Mary's cover interview and photos in "Women's Weekly" would have brought national attention to the visit, and the interview and photos in the newspaper magazine "Good Weekend" was a smart, and well-timed, move.

The Christening little Prince George did grab the weekly magazine covers, but was "small" news in the newspapers.

M and F had the first three pages of the newspaper one day, and were the lead story on the evening TV news, the day they visited the fire zone.

I do think there will be massive crowds when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visit next year, but I think Australia's closeness to the "British/Australian" royal family is closely tied to our affection and respect for the Queen on a personal level.

The younger Royals are, to us, more "distant" - someone to take an interest in, but we no longer think of them as ruling over us - those days are gone.

CP Mary, and through her CP Frederik, are in a unique position in Australia. We see Mary as someone to be proud of, and affection for her in her role is growing because she is Australian.

This will only increase in time I think, as why she is popular here will never change, whereas, the British Royal Family is receding in it's relevance for Australia, and with the Queen's eventual passing, will never have the position in our lives it once had.

Cheers, Sun Lion.

I think this is the thing. Mary is one of us and she will always be considered one of us whereas the BRF is only relevant here because of our historical connection with Britain. The members of the BRF are guests; Mary is family.

absolutely agree! More importantly, Mary has never ignored being an expat Australian. She still sang our anthem, which shows the deep affection she has for her homeland. That is why we treat her as family. Also, Frederick has adopted Australia as his own. You can see how happy he is when he is here. If Frederick and Mary acted like foreigners rather than locals, we would treat them far differently.

Just like the Danes call themselves a tribe, we Australians are exactly the same.

Roskilde, Leanne said:

"They travelled to the Blue Mountains to reach out and bring a little joy in such a devastating time."
"Mary was devastated by the news of the fires. They didn't make a big show of it- they just headed up there of their own accord. To our family, it just proves she's still Australian through and through."
"It was a happy family reunion."

Viv, yes there was a lot of coverage of the visit and it was all positive. Australians have taken them to heart as I think they see the couple as more approachable and authentic.

Some media was gushing and a bit "soap-like" but when I saw the couple, the media report that night was sensible ( I was interviewed).

I did comment to my husband during the tour that these engagements that M&F were doing here are what Charles & Diana used to do, albiet with bigger crowds and longer tours.

Harry's recent trip proved the popularity of the younger BRF and I am sure the Cambridges will attract huge crowds. As for a "rival" royal family, I would say "extra"!

Roskilde, this lovely yacht just sailed passed my view again a little while ago - Wednesday 6th Nov evening here - and I realised I hadn't checked some of my photos, that I took at the time of this family cruise on the Saturday of M and F's visit.

I checked them, and can let you know the name of the vessel is "Southern Cloud".

I have been referring to it in posts as the Lynggaard yacht, as I was told they are the owners.

I can't confirm that, but can say it was built in Denmark and was originally called "Butterfly McQueen".

It went through a rough time after it fell foul of a scandal back in Denmark ,with it's previous owners, back in 2001 - was left sitting in the mud in Queensland, and now has been revamped and is available for charter here in Sydney and in the Whitsunday islands.

Many photos on Google Images, showing what a lovely thing she is.

Cheers, Sun Lion.

P.S. Just popped across the bridge to see the Danish design display at the Opera House as it is closing on Monday, (Thursday afternoon here), and I thought - "why miss it"?

A lot of people taking an interest - sitting on some of the furniture, having their picture taken etc.

Had a chance to have a close up look at the snake ring CP Mary wore at the Ole Lynggaard flagship store opening - the gold version and the diamond encrusted version, ($69,000 - quite some ring).

Didn't realise so many familiar brands were actually Danish- Novo Nordisk, Bodrum, Bang & Olufsen, Scanpan, Georg Jensen, Ecco, etc. Another twenty or so brands on display that will, in time, become as familiar to Australia as the ones I've mentioned no doubt.

Picked up the "Visit Denmark" brochure there - a photo of the CP Couple with Prince Christian and a column mentioning M and F's sporing activities around Copenhagen.

The little Danish "Hot Dog" stand is still in business beside the Opera House - probably there till the exhibition closes. Eye-catching, as it's out on it's own with nothing around it, and covered in large photos of Copenhagen.

Sitting in front of the Opera House after having a good look at everything, what happens? - the good ship "Southern Cloud" drifts passed me, packed with people - so off to a good start for the Sydney charter season for them - and a fitting end to my Royal Danish experience.

Best Wishes All, Sun Lion.
