A local Copenhagener spotted Frederik on his way delivering Vincent and Josephine in kindergarten this morning. On the cargo bike and with Ziggy. And not least, notice that little Josephine is cycling on her own little pink bike with stabilizers :)

"How great to live in a country where you just bump into the Crown Prince with dog on the way to kindergarten with the twins and one single bodyguard."

I love that it's an everyday sight in Denmark to bump into Frederik and Mary on bikes in the streets delievering and picking up their children from kindergarten. I'm in no doubt they are SO much hands-on parents and that taken the children to school and kindergarten are on everyday basis in the Danish Crown Prince Family.

I never tire of seeing these kind of pictures. It's lovely and the kids will always remember it.

I'm no Dane, but I believe from other posters kids really start "school" at 6. I recall Christian and Isabella's first days when they were 6. Kindergarten is more "pre-school" (as opposed to the U.S. where kindergarten, which starts at 5, is the beginning of elementary school)
 
These little royals are having a pretty normal life with plenty of love and care. So lovely to see

It is neither school or pre-school. The right word is kindergarten. A place to play, having naps and just being a child and learning through playing, social activities, and develop your social behavior and learn basic things like if you want to try the swing you have to wait to it become your turn. As GracieGiraffe says the Danish children first start in school when they're 6 years old.

So Vincent and Josephine still have 1.5 years back in kindergarten.

Christian now goes in 4.klasse (4th grade)

And Isabella in 2. klasse (2nd grade)

I hope it makes sense :)

What a nice picture. And little Miss Independent Josephine riding her own bike! I think F&M are going to have their hands full with that one :p

Since the family recently had an extended vacation in Australia, I wonder if they'll be going on their annual ski trip to Switzerland.

:previous: It's a more solid bike. (Not as solid though as the genuine Christiania-bikes, which can knock over a car if they hit one!)

But the twins are growing... and as everyone who has been on an outing with the family knows, it's baffling how much equipment, necessities, toys, bathtubs, food, water and other survival gear you end up packing! So a solid bike is always a good idea.
The Nihola bikes are lighter and easier to tread, but can't (safely) carry as much weight as this new one. - (Always avoid the cheap models! They can break and often too easily. And you do not want to hear a sudden crack when pedaling on a busy street with your child/wife/dog/mother-in-law in the basket!)

It's expensive! Extremely solid and can be used to move (all) your furnitures in one move...
It's also build like a main battle tank, and can feel just a heavy to tread...

Smart, slick, sporty and you don't get overdeveloped leg muscles from using it.

This is the medium sized family-car, all-purpose cargo bike. It's the Volvo of cargo-bikes - with a similar acceleration...

Don't! One day: Snap! You end up on your face. Your children/dog/groceries etc. end up under the nearest bus.

There are of course people who opt for an electrified cargo-bike - but they lack the right spirit, they lack moral fiber, they are simply not masochist enough. Frederik wouldn't have an electric bike I'm sure - he'd rather suffer the agony of burning leg-muscles.

Always nice to invest in good bikes for such an outdoorsy family. That was my Christmas presents for my niece and nephew. Some good off-the trail bikes. They use them quite often.

I hope so. Its always some wonderful pictures in the snow. Most royals take their Christmas holidays in December and then a ski trip in January or February depending on the kid's school holidays.

Love the headline: Fathers big girl now bikes herself.

Her&Nu's reporter noticed a few details. Brave little Josephine was well provided with training wheels on her little bike and helmet as she pedaled the best she had learned. Meanwhile, wise little Vincent took good care of his and his sister lunch boxes on board in the Nihola bike and let dad Frederik do the hard work pedaling :p Josephine has a "Frozen" lunchbox Vincent's lunchbox is filled with motives from the animated film "Despicable Me."

Fine new bike. Vincent and Josephine can barely sit side by side in the old Nihola bike anymore (;

Happy birthday today to our beloved Crown Princess Mary :daneflag2::ausflag2:

Today Mary has no official events. Frederik has official events in the early afternoon, but I'm sure he, all four children and Ziggy celebrating their wife and mother well this morning and in the evening.

I never forget an Australian reporters words on live-TV here in Denmark when she and Frederik celebrated their 10 year wedding anniversary in 2014. She said: "Dear Denmark. You gave us the most beautiful gift in shape of the Opera House. As a thank you, we gave you back our most beautiful gift in shape of Mary Elizabeth Donaldson. We take good care of the Opera house, so take good care of our Mary."

I think it was beautifully formulated!

While Frederik today at Mary's birthday was out to his official event, Mary in the meantime was spotted by a local Copenhagen out on a run at Kastellet (the Citadel) close to Amalienborg:

A quick review of article:

When Mary last night was at the Cancer Society Merit Award, she was asked and told she was looking forward to celebrate her birthday. She replied that it will be a festive and lovely birthday.

TV2 also talk with a royalty expert. He praises Mary to the skies. As the future Queen she has a special status and has many many tasks. How does she do her job as a future queen? Really really good. She is exceptionally good compared to what we have seen in other countries in Europe where 'ordinary' have been married into a royal family. Is there anything she should do differently? No. She really has understood what the royal family means for Denmark and Danes.

It's certainly new to me that Mary should speak French. I suppose she knows some words and expressions by now, but court only mentions English and Danish among her languages.

The Daily Mail article shows how private Mary's life has been since 2004. Most of the "facts" they gathered are details that date from her early days in Denmark and I doubt they're still valid. :whistling:

I didn't know her birth had been announced in the Mercury though. Perhaps that's a local custom? - To announce the birth of a child in the paper.
 
Maybe it was more of a custom back in the day, 1972...?

Yes it is a custom to announce births in local papers. But it is dying out now as people put it on face book !!

Royal Rob is correct, it is a custom to announce a birth in the newspaper here, before the internet. At high school Mary would have had a choice of which language to learn, being Japanese, French or German. Mainly French and German during her time. So she would only have learnt rudementary French at High School if she chose that.

The job will cover cooking for a small family with children... as well as large dinners.
The job will also include making sure the kitchen is clean, taking care of the dishes and whatever else is being done in a kitchen.
A car and a place to sleep for the night is at disposal.

However, applicants should not expect to meet M&F prior to being hired. A recruiting agency takes care of that.
 
Sounds like a nice job for a few years if you want to boost your CV.

It's still very much the custom in Tasmania Hannelore, (to announce the birth of a child in the local newspaper).

Not just the parents, but often the grandparents also put a notice in.

The hospital staff who attended the birth are often publicly thanked this way too.

When you are old enough your mother will give you the little, now yellowed, piece of newspaper of your own birth announcement, so you can keep it for yourself.

Every week there is a page of photos of that week's newborns posing up with their mums, dads and siblings.

The "Births, Deaths and Marriages" pages are the only reason my Tasmanian Mum still gets the newspaper.

People also put in "In Memorium" notices for their lost loved family and friends on the Anniversary of their deaths - sometimes twenty or thirty years after the passing.

And announcements for the 18th and 21st birthdays and Wedding Anniversaries of course - and these days family members will put in an announcement to congratulate the son or daughter on graduating University, not to mention Engagements and Weddings.

And you can pay extra and get little twirls, or balloons, flowers etc, printed at the top of your announcent these days.

I'm a bit suprised this isn't done in Denmark Muhler. How does your community know what's happening in your life without this system?
