Even though Mary is Australian born, a Danish princess would probably be given the Danish version of the name Matilda - which is Mat(h)ilde.

They are both godparents of prince Christian.

When were Christian's godparents announced? I mean, we're at ten days until the christening, and no godparents yet!

JessRulz I completely agree with you about the name Matilda. I was forced to sing "Waltzing Matilda'' every week when I was in primary school and it just got to me. I still think she looks like a Charlotte.

I always makes me laugh when someone saids: "He (or she) looks like a (name)"...For I think it is right! A friend of mine was pretty angry for her mother best friend has christianed her little boy as "Vicente" when he "looks like an Alejandro". And besides, she added, all people knows that "Vicente" is a name for elderly men...I found the last remark hilarious, for the elderly men named "Vicente" must have been Christianed with it since they were little babies...Aren't they?

As far as I remember, it wasn't until the day of the christening that the court released a list with names of the godparents (not 100 % sure though....)

It's just tradition - they way they do it. With the present queen and her two sisters, the late King Frederik and queen Ingrid limited the number to 4 - the queen's cousin, princess Elisabeth, 'suffered' from an even older tradition and was given 10 names - Elisabeth Caroline-Mathilde Alexandrine Helena Olga Thyra Feodora Estrid Margarethe Désirée!

Yes, it's rather overwhelming! No, they only use the first name, thankfully! But imagine being a little one starting at school and having to learn to write your entire name...

Is it also tradition to chose a name that is very commonly run through the royal family in Denmark? I was thinking that since Mary is from Austrailia that maybe she may prefer a more common english name. Then again, if you add 4 or 5 names on to it, tradition will be covered to some extent.
Is it possible for Mary to name the child anything, for example say she liked the name Jenny or Halley or Kimbery. Or another common name because she wanted to name her after one of her own relatives. Is it possible? or are their choices limited by Denmark royal family traditional names?
I was wondering if her Austrailian or more specifically more English background can play a part. Any thoughts?

When it comes down to the day, isn't it just two that will be picked. One godmother and one godfather?
Or is this a group thing now? I guess I am just traditional.

http://www.familiestyrelsen.dk/navne/1/ has a list of names that Danes can give their children. Press Godkendte pigefornavne and choose HTML, then press the button below. Any names other than these names, will have to be applied for.
Jenny, Hailey, & Kimberley/Kimberly are all on the list.
It's tradition to use some family names for the child - for example one of Frederik's names is André, after Henrik's father - ergo - the non-royal part of the family.

....just like Christian has John as one of his names - after his non-royal maternal grandfather

Yes, I think the list was released just a few hours before the baptism.
I remember because it was a bit of a surprise that Haakon and Mette-Marit were chosen as godparents.
Everyone exspected Haakon as a godfather but MM was a surprise. And it was quite difficult for them to be there at time if I remember correctly.
