Frederik, Mary and Family on Summer Holidays: 2005-2008, 2012-2023

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Yes, the photographers usually hang out in the same intersection - in open view. Probably saying hello as well.
Because strictly speaking they go against the law on privacy.

How are they against privacy rules if they are in public? Because there are children?

Basically you can't just walk up to anyone, whether in public or in private, and take their picture without consent. Especially children.
Unless there is a very good reason or the one you are photographing is a part of something where (s)he must be expected to be photographed, like a carnival.
Strictly speaking that also applies to celebs and royals. - But of course royals know that what they do is somewhat newsworthy. So as long as the photographer is standing in open view and perhaps saying hi, it's part of the game.
But if the photographer had been hiding behind a bush or using a 20.000 mm lens PET would very like grab him by the collarbone.
And if Mary had say "no photos" to the photographer - that's it.

But as said before, every year photographers hang around at that intersection to snap a few photos and the DRF know it and I imagine the photographers sometimes see the children playing in the park. But of course they don't take photos of that.

:previous: Thank you, Muhler. Grasten looks like a lovely place to spend the summer. There's even a playground for the children. I notice there are memorial stones for Frederik IX and Ingrid. I know they are not interred there, so I presume there is some sort of memorial garden? Queen Ingrid designed the gardens at Grasten, didn't she? :rose2:

She did. Completely from scratch.

There were originally a few roses more resembling flu-patients, but they were removed and now there is a garden that is very popular place to go for the locals.
Queen Ingrid and Frederik IX are both buried at Roskilde Cathedral.

I guess they tolerate it because it's not in the very privacy of their lives (unlike during their Australian holidays), it's basically when they're cycling on the street.

Plus pictures of this "look at us, we're just like you" moment combined with the fact they're holidaying in DK can only be good for their image.

Absolutely.

It's great PR and it's a good way to please the press with very little inconvenience to themselves.

:previous: yep. No need to make a big deal from a few snaps on their bike ride.
the alternative of making a big fuss or worse, stopping these family bike rides, would be a shame.
Just continue their normal family life
and it helps ensure that they will be otherwise left alone in other outings. their usual holidays in Denmark have been very discreet.

article from dailymail with the already posted pictures of Mary and 3 of the kids heading to the stables on their bikes

That's a great point about PR, I agree. I think photos like this are beneficial to the family's reputation amongst the Danish public, since, as you said, members of the public will be able to relate to them more if they see them doing "normal" activities.

Unfortunately, a poster took my question and your answer and applied it to the Cambridge children.. You and I both know that the rules of privacy are quite different in different countries. Children's public images are not protected, neither are adults, in public in the USA, UK and Australia at least. No permission is needed fro m an adult to photograph a child in public in those countries.
My question was just to make sure what the law was in Denmark.

:previous: I don't understand, Freilinghighness. (Now I got it).
Here in this thread (then it seems to have been deleted or moved) or somewhere else on TRF?
You are of course right. I spoke only about the legislation in DK. I don't know the legislation in other countries.

Anyway, Daily Mail has no less than two articles about Mary cycling with her children!
Here is the second:

Better versions of the photos we have already seen.

:previous: maybe we will get one more story from the same pictures lol. a where is Frederik and Isabella story;)

those are some cute pictures of the family enjoying grasten, which looks like a beautiful place in the summer. i am not surprised they keep coming back!

i am intrigued by mary's riding shirt, it seems very professional-looking, like what we would see in professional riding competitions - is it perhaps for a special type of riding?

It was nice to see Mary and the children enjoying some cycling activities together in Gråsten. Little Josephine looks so grown up on her bike. It looks like the weather is nice there at the moment! I hope it can stay the same for the photocall.

:previous: Well, so far this summer has been very rainy! And today not particularly warm either, due to a strong wind.
But next week we should have great temperatures 22 C (71 F) - Perfect as far as I'm concerned. :)
So with just a little bit of luck they won't drown next Friday.

Polyesco, who can't get enough rain, would love to be here right now. ;)

Prinsesse Josephine slægter sin mor mest på: Hun og Mary deler denne store passion

BT has a nice little article (with the pictures from the 4th July) of what we already know at this forum - that little Josephine is a mini-Mary :) While Christian, Bella and Vincent is mini-Frederik's.

This article belongs to the category: A sweet summer article from BT. And is to be read with a smile. That said: Judging from Josephine little riding boots (opposite Vincent's ordinary shoes) she probably goes to riding like mother. Vincent sure seems like the football-type like his older brother. As we know Bella goes to dance, and Christian to football and sailing.

And her fall from the horse last summer (and thus a broken arm) has certainly not frightened brave Josephine.

And Her&Nu with a nice little article and pictures of Frederik, Mary, Christian and Vincent and Josephine (again the same ones from the 4th July) of the twins now having left moms and dads Nihola bike and riding their own little bikes - and without training wheels

:previous: It doesn't smell like a photo visit to me.
More like a we-promised-the-twins-a-trip-to-legoland-when-the-weather-gets-better-but-it-keeps-raining-so-let's-just-go outing.
On the good side it means M&F and children can easier disappear in the crowd when it's raining.

Daily Mail must have been trawling the royal sites because they've managed to write an entire article based on one photo: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/a...-Mary-lets-Prince-Vincent-wheel-Legoland.html

Very well said Muhler, I agree with you. Less of a crowd in the rain.

Mary and Vincent were pictured in Legoland (from someone's instagram)

we have this ride in legoland california too. You end up getting a little bit wet lol. I'm guessing the whole family was there too

Thanks Polyesco :flowers:

To my delight - it seems like they got a private day in Legoland - nothing in the media yet at least. :)

Only some private facebook posts confirms that the whole Crown Prince family was enjoying a nice and fun day at Legoland. And as we can see in the Instagram picture (Mary kindly waves to the little boy) the family also took time to talk to people around them. As they are so good to.

From a private Facebook poster:
https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=543524932501594&id=235227816664642
"How nice it was to see you (Frederik and Mary) in Legoland yesterday and see how you had a cozy time with your children and at the same time you took you good time to talk to people around you"

No pictures (thankfully) but a little information from the local newspaper from Gråsten:

On Monday evening last week the Crown Prince couple had cozy time with friends on the terrace. The talk was lively and they listened to music. The children have been amusing themselves in a bouncy castle in the garden.

Se&Hoer (on the streets today) must have had a photographer there and thus a little gallery from their day in Legoland last Sunday.

I see the family Handwerk were with them :)

Lurking & Se og Hør...Sounds about right. ;)
They have a photo of Mary riding on the cover too.

Nice pictures! Its no secret that Frederik and Mary go riding every summer and they do their trip to legoland. The family seems to enjoy Legoland rain or shine ;)

that looks like a fun family outing. i get the feeling perhaps legoland is getting past the fun stage for christian's age at this point, is it perhaps an activity destined for little ones, around the twins' age?
i also wonder why exactly they picked a day when it was raining though - perhaps they thought that way they'd be able to camouflage more easily, within the coats and ponchos?

There have been few days in July without rain.

There are still plenty of fast rides for Christian's age.
I believe it was last year that Frederik and Mary took Alexandra's kids Ingrid and Richard and Felix with them. Im sure Christian will still enjoy Legoland for a few more years.
and now that the twins are older, they dont have to split and spend time on the small kiddie rides ;)

Nice that Frederik, Mary and family have spent some more quiet time in Denmark during their vacations.
Chancellery House is where they lived their first years of marriage right?

(..)
