Indeed. I have watched that clip countless times :D And I can watch it again and again and again. And I'm just as touched every time. Why? Because it's pure real feelings. And it's a pleasure to see those two living their life together.

Thanks for posting the lovely photos. Loved this wedding and can never see enough, the love shines. The ninth one is one of my favourites, it is like they are not aware that anyone else there.

During the Crown Prince couple's summer cruise in Hirtshals the couple visited the North Sea Oceanarium where the Crown Prince had the task of helping to feed the big fish - but when he saw the Crown Princess on the other side of the glass wall, he swam over to her, took the out his mouthpiece, put his mouth towards the glass wall and stole an underwater kiss.

He sure looks like a PET officer, but why would CPss Mary transport Mette in the bike instead of Mette cycling herself? :ermm:

How nice :)

It's F&M's beloved Nihola bike we always see they deliver and pick up Vincent and Josephine in from kindergarten (and Christian and Bella when they went to kindergarten) and when F&M and children cycling around in the city in general.

As you can see there is plenty of space in a Nihola bike. Although it seems that soon there wont be enough room for Vincent and Josephine anymore, there is plenty of room ;)

I've been a bit down in the dumps ever since our election on Thursday but I must say, that picture of her driving (who is presumed to be) Mette cheered me up a whole lot – Denmark's Crown Princess is not too fancy to drive her future plebs around in her Nihola bike :D :ROFLMAO:

Thats the 'Tassie' in her heehee! l totally didnt think anything wrong or out of the ordinary. But I guess when you think a future queen giving a lift to the Nanny on her bike.....she really is going to make an interesting Queen when it happens. :)

Tomorrow is Sankt Hans Evening as we call it here in DK.

Sankt Hans or John the Baptist is originally a medieval Catholic celebration but really it's a continuation of pagan midsummer celebrations.
At least in Denmark it's actually pretty sinister as the bonfire always include a witch who is burned and who will fly to Bloksbjerg = Brochen (mountain) in Germany. Why Danish witches, or any other witches for that matter, would want to gather in Central Germany I have no idea, but that's what the folklore says and that's how it is.
That of course goes back to the time of witch hunting here in DK. The vast majority of witches burned in DK, were burned after the Reformation.

Anyway, today the midsummer celebration is more subdued, with very little superstition, if any, at all and it is no longer an excuse for yet another communal binge.
At this time of year it doesn't get really dark until sometime after midnight and the night really only lasts some three-four hours. So dusk only starts to set in around 22.45 or so. That is of course way too late for children, so most bonfires are lit between 19-22. When it's is still bright outside and the sun is still up.

So people gather around a local bonfire. In the village where we live local volunteers have gathered some local shrubbery and stacked them and on top a creative soul have planted a witch, complete with broom, hooked nose and black hat.
That is often pretty scenic especially if you stand at a fjord and can see other bonfires lit up. It is basically a tribal gathering that has taken place sine forever.

A local politician will give a speech and we will sing a couple of songs, that is those of us who can sing, the rest of us provide a humming background...
Then the bonfire is lit while we sing the Midsummer song.

Thank you for posting that lovely video, Muhler. In the US, fireworks are the mode of celebration for holidays, especially patriotic ones. Our big one is coming up on July 4, Independence Day. For three years, I have lived at the edge of a small town, and every year someone in the area shoots off fireworks on the eve of the summer solstice. Nice that these sort of celebrations continue. :flowers:

Perhaps you or other Americans would like to tell us how you celebrate 4th July and or Thanksgiving? No doubt there are different traditions in a country as big and diverse as USA.
I think you might be surprised as to how many would be interested. :)

I live in Texas so July 4 is always spent in near 100F heat. Typically my husband, daughter and I drive to my in-laws house which is on a lake about 3 hours west of us. We usually spend a day or two there just relaxing and having fun. We always stop to buy a bunch of fireworks and then after the sun sets on the 4th (usually by 9:30pm) we go down to their pier that juts into the water (watching for rattlesnakes as we go) and shoot the fireworks off over the water. You have to shoot them over the water to reduce the fire risk since we are out in the country, it's just safer that way. I'm usually on fire patrol, stomping out any embers that come down on the grass. Everyone who has a house on the lake does the same, plus the very tiny local town also shoots fireworks off, so you really get a great show. For food, we will typically grill something, like burgers or perhaps smoke a chicken. It's all very yummy.

For me, Thanksgiving isn't that big of a holiday because I used to be in the news business and I worked 11 Thanksgivings in a row. Typically I alternate hosting with my mother or maybe my sister. She's a doctor so sometimes she is on call during Thanksgiving. If I host, we either invite my family or my husband's family, but never both at the same time. I don't have enough liquor in the house to get me thru the stress of that! Thanksgiving in the U.S. Is in late November (the fourth Thursday). Most Americans serve turkey. My mom makes the same meal every year without fail. I'm not a huge turkey fan, so if I host I will sometimes do ham, a prime rib roast or a beef tenderloin roast. My mother likes to serve the meal around 1 or 2 in the afternoon, but I prefer to do my Thanksgiving meal in the evening. However, if I'm hosting my in-laws, we have to do it in the early afternoon so we are finished in time to watch the Dallas Cowboys play football. They play at 3:30 every Thanksgiving, it's tradition. And since we live in the Cowboys hometown, my in-laws expect to be able to watch the game, even though my husband and I can't stand the Cowboys. I've joked for many years that going on vacation for the holidays may be the way to go and one year I am going to do it.

The rule in my house is that we can't put up any Christmas decorations or listen to Christmas music until thanksgiving is over. The past few years we've had thanksgiving on a Thursday and then advent starts on Sunday, so sometimes you have what feels like a very packed holiday season. But the thing about Thanksgiving in my area is that the weather is usually still quite warm (in the low 80sF) or we have a sleet or ice storm. It's kind of a joke around here because it will be either unseasonably warm or some freak winter storm.

It is always interesting to learn about other traditions and celebrations, especially from ordinary people.

I have to ask: Look out for rattlesnakes? Is it because they like to soak sun on the pier or is it because they come out at dusk?

However, I wasn't being clear in my encouragement: I meant opening a separate thread about Thanksgiving and 4th July.
Otherwise I fear we would test the patience of the mods. ;)
