I think those who pay full first / business price are allowed "lax" dress codes compared to those who upgrade or are moved to those seats for various reasons.

Eat, drink and be Mary

CROWN Princess Mary proved she is the people's princess yesterday.
The royal popped in to a suburban state primary school and lunched on the balcony of a popular Melbourne cafe.

After flying into Melbourne on Jetstar the day before, Princess Mary looked cool and stylish in white pants and jacket as she strolled past stunned shoppers at Southbank.

that's quite a sweet anecdote how they visited the place where mary used to have lunch. must be nice to be back after a while and see how things changed!

just wondered how the article mentions how one of the bodyguards was called to go with mary to the toilet... i'd assume that was the blonde lady who was always beind her in the trips?

what do bodyguards do meanwhile they wait for the royals (when they shop, have food, for example)?

i'd guess while shopping they'd be watching them and looking around the shop and while eating probably sit at a nearby table have something to rink or eat but still have a watch on them.

well, since a bodyguard had to escort Mary to the bathroom at the cafe she went to, then I'd have to say yes, they have to be there. Mostly, their job is just to stand by and be constantly alert. I was watching a "The Life of...Celebrity Assistants," and they interviewed a bodyguard who worked for Usher and other celebrities, and he said that he (the security guard) had to remain separate to whatever Usher was doing, whether they were at a restaurant, a club, a party, or whatever, because if he was dancing or whatever, then he might miss something. They have to always be aware of who and what are around them to prevent any threatening situations happening to their clients. I'd imagine that it is even more important for the bodyguards of Mary, and even more especcially, Christian and Frederik, to be constantly alert. For Christian, especcially, the worry would be less an assaination attempt, but more likely, a kidnapping. The bodyguards have to worry about who is approaching the royals, what the person might have as a possible weapon, any person in the area who looks suspicious, any possible hazards (such as something they could trip on or fall over, or a ledge they could fall off), any paparazzi that might snap annoying pictures, and even regular people that might snap annoying or embarassing pictures. They also have to mentally map out any room, finding the different means of egress in the space. It's actually a very mental job, mostly using observation. They may look like living, breathing, sometimes dumb, often very large statues, standing and doing nothing, but they are usually thinking or observing.

By thongs I take it you mean flip flops? To clarify, there's a bit of a thing amongst South Asians and flip flops, they're portrayed as being the sorts of shoes street cleaners wear. They're viewed as something only the very very poor would wear. It's the same in Pakistan, my cousin went nuts when I wore some out to lunch once.

I've travelled business/first class on quite a few airlines, BA, Emirate, Qatar etc. and I can honestly say I haven't eer picked up any negative vibes in relation to dress.

I guess they are used to all those models by now who arrive in the most comfortable outfits like workout pants and sweaters and get out of their shoes immediately in order to put on house shoes... The expereinced ones even have another pair of shoes in a larger size to put on on arrival, because due to the minimized pressure on board the feet tend to swell, so you might have problems fitting into your shoes on arrival...

Did they mention how long they will stay in Australia and which places they will visit?

Christian is very sweet! The pictures with the australian animals are priceless!
He looked so feared by the snake and so interested in the koala!

Nope. They can't force you to give up your ticket because you're not dressed nicely. Obviously if you can afford business class, you can afford nice clothes.

I think the jacket is great, a nice flattering casual jacket, that goes with a lot of things. I agree, there is nothing 'strange' about it.

Totally agree- what is wrong with looking your best all the time - some people are just like that- i am like that if at home or out I always look my best and not for others but for myself - i think she looks great in casual or formal wear.

Does it really matter what Mary was wearing on the plane and what section she was in? Mary and Christian got from one destination to another all in one piece. The family seems to be happy, healthy, and enjoying their trip.

Absolutely, I couldn't agree more. It is wonderful to see them enjoying some time together as a family.

Loving the mummy in Mary

By Naomi Toy
December 02, 2006 12:00
------
While the concept of the yummy mummy normally rankles my inner feminist, in the case of Mary Donaldson I can't help but use it.
------
What has really seen Mary jump in my estimation - and I must confess she was up there anyway - is that she acts like she would slot right into any mother's group.
------
But it was watching Mary put her back into pushing a stroller weighted with the roly poly Christian up a steep hill that completely won me over.
------
I'm not used to seeing the rich and famous being so wonderfully suburban.
