Is one better than the other. Mary is very elegant. Thanks for the fotos.

A royal homecoming from Hello magazine

She left Australia as real estate agent Mary Donaldson, but two weeks ago she returned to her homeland as Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. Here hellomagazine.com presents the most memorable moments from the princess' triumphant trip Down Under

Mary-mania

Crown Princess Mary, the 33-year-old Australian native who became a member of the Danish royal family after she wed Prince Frederik, was welcomed by throngs of adoring well-wishers when she made her first visit home since her fairytale wedding last May.

Her trademark elegance, as well as her poise and devotion to charity work, captured the hearts of her countrymen, setting off what has become known as Mary-mania. "The whole city has gone mad for Mary," said one observer in Sydney.

In the weeks before her arrival, public interest hit levels similar to those which surrounded Princess Diana at the height of her popularity, and Mary's two-week visit generated headlines around the world.

Loving Couple

During their trip, Frederik and his wife charmed their Australian hosts with open displays of affection. The prince who wept from emotion at his wedding had no hesitation in holding his wife's hand, exchanging complicitous glances with her and kissing her in public.

"Right here in Sydney is where our fairytale began," said Frederik, bestowing a kiss on his princess after she was named Australia's honorary ambassador for Hans Christian Andersen at an event in honour of his bicentenary celebrations.

He then drew laughter by telling guests that his wife had not been subjected to the "pea test" – referring to Andersen's The Princess And The Pea fairytale in which a queen tests the suitability of girls as potential wives for her son by placing a pea under their mattresses to see if they notice it.

CHILDREN'S HEROINE

Princess Mary made it clear that this tour was about lending support to as many charities as possible, and while she met with people from all walks of life, she also reserved ample time for her youngest fans.

At one lunch she hosted for 480 youngsters in support of the Australian Mental Health Foundation, she'd asked the chef to recreate the Tasmanian wedding cake that was served at her nuptials last May in Copenhagen.

The princess entertained young cancer patients at the Westmead Children's Hospital with a special reading of one of Denmark's favourite fairytales, Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling. The children then took turns posing questions. "Do your shoes hurt?" asked one boy. "No, I can walk in them," responded the stylish royal.

Oh and I read a weird story in a gossip Magazine in Holland: she supposed to had an affair with a football player??? It sounds ridiculous to me and the story tells that Frederik went to Australia to support her after this story. They really are not well informed about this love couple and I wonder where this story came from. Does anybody heard something like this?
I´ve read something like that in swedish mags to. But this, if I remember it correctly, happend years ago. Long before she met Fredrik. And who can blame her for that?!
Such stories are just silly...

STYLISH DAYS

Simple and chic are Mary's keywords for daytime fashion. She delighted royal-watchers with a series of well-cut suits in a palette of fresh soft hues, topped off with gorgeous hats that set off her pretty features to admiration.

Designer Rebecca Davies said: "They are very conservative clothes that as a princess she has to wear in public, but when she puts anything on she gives it a modern-ness."

Well-known couture gown designer Alex Perry said Princess Mary's signature style has been impeccable and flawless during the royal visit: "She wears beautiful suits which are classic but have a youthful edge."

BELLE OF THE BALL

One of the most memorable outfits Mary wore for the non-stop succession of glamorous galas was a pink silk halter-neck top over a vintage Oscar de la Renta midnight-blue floor-length skirt, which set flashbulbs blazing at the Red Cross Charity ball in Sydney.

Later on in the week, also in Sydney, she donned an off-the-shoulder red gown and a diamond collar with matching earrings that made for a stunning entrance at a state dinner at the New South Wales Government House.

But perhaps the crowning frock was a full-length black V-neck gown with diamanté detailing, worn with diamond drop earrings and a glossy chignon. She chose the ensemble for a gala dinner in aid of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute – an organization dear to the princess since she lost her mother Henrietta to heart disease in 1997.

That dress that Mary wore to the Gala last night is probably my favourite out of the whole trip. So sleek and sophisticated! Thank you everyone for the wonderful photos.

I don't think this article has been posted. From the SMH: http://smh.com.au/articles/2005/03/1...417690931.html

Curtain falls on Denmark's royal theatre
By Andrew Darby
March 12, 2005

The Danish royal couple wrapped up their two-week tour of Australia yesterday claiming an overwhelming response, but republicans said the attention given them showed more about the cult of celebrity than support for monarchy.

Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik drew small, warm crowds on their first visit to her home town of Hobart as crown princess.

The Hobart law graduate who married Frederik 10 months ago said she had repeatedly heard her life described as a fairytale. "Our life is a reality, and we're very happy; and if everyone wants to refer to our life as a fairytale, then that's fine," she said.

Frederik described the tour as an incredible journey that had produced immense joy and happiness.

At the couple's only news conference of the tour, he refused to be drawn on what their visit, and that of Prince Charles, meant for a republic.

The national director of the Australian Republican Movement, Allison Henry, said it had been interesting to watch the media's response: "I don't think it says much about a republic. I personally don't think it's anything beyond the culture of celebrity."

Royals attend family wedding in Swansea
21:13 AEDT Sat Mar 12 2005

The Danish royals have attended the wedding of Crown Princess Mary's cousin Alison Donaldson at Swansea on Tasmania's east coast.

Princess Mary hugged family members on arrival at the wedding, which was held at a private home in the historic township 134 kilometres from Hobart.

The princess wore a black twinset with a long strand of green beads and a lace-detailed skirt, while Prince Frederik looked relaxed in a red checked shirt.

The wedding marked the first day of the royal couple's private holiday in Princess Mary's former home state after a 12-day tour of Australia.

Plans for their holiday have been fiercely guarded by the royals' minders and family.

Business owners at Swansea would not confirm details of the wedding, but said Princess Mary did have relatives in the area and there had been a large wedding at a private house.

The royal couple visited the area in January 2004, lunching unnoticed at Kabuki by the Sea, 12 kilometres from the town centre.

Kabuki owner Terry Lanning said Crown Prince Frederik had asked about postal facilities to Denmark during the visit, but his staff had not realised the stature of their guests until a local newspaper called the following day.

Danish television has since featured the restaurant in a Tasmanian special aired before the royal wedding last May.

Princess Mary and Prince Frederik ended their first official tour of Australia on Friday night as guests at a Save the Children Tasmania charity ball.

The couple was last sighted returning to Government House at 11.45pm (AEDT).

Sources say they stayed the night at Government House but there were no glimpses of either royal on Saturday.

The couple is rumoured to be staying with family and friends at the exclusive London Lakes Resort in Tasmania's midlands.

No one at the resort would comment, but the couple was rumoured to have booked out the entire facility months in advance.

On the streets of Hobart, where Princess Mary had strolled largely unrecognised with her new love in early 2004, the closest thing to a royal sighting was a Princess Mary biscuit.

Drifters Internet Cafe in Salamanca had been selling the $2.50 packets of shortbread biscuits throughout the royal tour.

They said the biscuits, featuring a photograph of Princess Mary, had been selling well.

The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, where the couple had shared their first public kiss last visit, was almost empty.

Only one elderly woman nursed a glass of white wine in the waterfront bar.

Princess Mary's sisters and their families are rumoured to be holidaying with the royal couple. There was no one home at either houses.

The royal couple spent just over 24 hours in Tasmania as part of their 12-day Australian tour, which also took in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.

They are also rumoured to be looking at properties for purchase during their private holiday.

some more photos

I feel bad posting these photos. It's invading Mary and Frederik's private time - time spent with their family. I think the media should have left them alone. They have taken more than enough photos during their visit here, but I guess 'secret' photos fetch more money.

I saw an article earlier saying that the premier of Tasmania, Paul Lennon, had asked the media to respect the privacy of Mary and Frederik during this time of their unofficial visit to Tasmania.
