Thanks, dazzling, for this comprehensive program. It is saddening to think all these organisations and initiatives exist and are operational and still sexual abuse and assault, gender discrimination, domestic violence and related issues continue to impact the lives of millions of vulnerable people, not only in South Africa, but throughout Africa.

Thanks dazzling :flowers: No wonder Mary participating in this visit - it deals with exactly Mary's interests and work areas.

It's truly a busy autumn for Mary. In relation to the flight time of 20+ hours Mary and the delegation must have left for South Africa already today.

Princess mary is one of the most hard working crown princess around I think... She hardly ever stops...

Thanks Roskilde & LadyS.

The gentleman with the glasses standing next to Mary is Minister for Trade and Developement, Mogens Jensen.
He is something of an oddity, being a very capable minister and on top of that he even seems to have integrity!

Perhaps our South African friends will keep us informed about any local coverage?

:previous: The high popularity and respect the Danes have for her is indeed well deserved!

Mary has landed in South Africa and started her program.

Here at the first event on the program.

Thanks, Roskilde.

That event was well covered by the TV2 news tonight.
The woman Mary is talking to is a wine-farmer (I guess it's called). She is something of a novelty in South Africa. The wine-producers are predominantly white men.
The woman was born in pretty poor circumstances in Kwazulu-Natal, I guess that makes her a Zulu. Anyway, through talent and hard studying she entered a university on a scholarship and now she makes wine. That makes her a successful trailblazer. Her farm and home is in one of the oldest Afrikaaner-settlements in South Africa.
She admits that she is from time to time facing recentment from other people. (Probably just as much for her succes, gender and race too). But it doesn't appear to be a major concern of hers.

It is a fact that something always goes wrong on any visit. - Hats flying, car breaking down and so on.
Also on this visit: Kronprinsesse Marys Cape Town-middag ramt af strømsvigt | Billed Bladet
During the dinner in Cape Town last night where Mary met with representaties of sexual minorities there was a power failure lasting a couple of hours.

And an addition to the previous post, the woman mentioned above, Ntsiki Biyela, is South Africa's first female wine producer.

Yes an unfortunate fact of South Africa (although admittedly has been minimal the last couple of years) - loadshedding by Eskom, South Africa's electricity suppliers.
Power cuts in Joburg, Ekurhuleni, Cape Town | News24
Eskom sends out schedules showing the times when power cuts are likely so most businesses have generators to cover these periods.

Kronprinsesse Mary imponeret over klinik i Cape Town | Billed Bladet

And Mary continues, this time visiting the Marie Stopes Clinic in Cape Town.
That's a part of her commitment in regards to repreductive health for women.
The clinic offer guidance to women in regards to sexual issues. A number of the women visiting the clinic in order to learn about abortion preferred to remain in the waiting room as they did not wish to draw any attention to themselves, since aborting is apparantly very much a taboo in South Africa.

Thanks, LadyS. :flowers:

I can only speak for myself of course, but I appreciate any trivia and facts about the countries the DRF is visiting. As natives of your countries you have a unique knowledge that is far from always conveyed through the Danish media.
So don't think that whatever you may contribute with is too boring or insignificant. None of us are so clever we can't learn anything new. ;)

Thanks, Roskilde. :flowers:

I plain forgot to add in connection with the Minister for Trade and Developement, Mogens Jensen, that he is gay.
Not that it would influence him IMO, because he has never made an issue out of that and why should he?

Our Africa correspondent, the venerable Ulrik Ulriksen's reports are pouring in: Kronprinsesse Mary talte sex og HIV-smitte med unge i Sydafrika | Billed Bladet

While visiting the clinic, Mary got an enthusiastic reception by some of the young. Including a dance with a young local gentleman.
The article says the typical Danish style about calling a spade a spade and talking directly about the issue was something the young weren't used to, but nevertheless appreciated. (*)

(*) According to a number of foreign comments about living in DK, that is one of our most prevailing traits. I.e being very direct!
That has led to a number of cultural clashes, because foreigners settling and working in DK can expect to be told if there is something that annoys their co-workers. Don't expect any *****-footing. Whether that is good or bad, well, you be the judge.
Our Marie experienced that early on, when being asked directly about a pregnancy. Something she obviously wasn't used to and which embarrassed her a little.

ADDED: Interesting! I see p...y-footing has been censored automatically, I thought it was a common expression.

***** footing of course refers to a cat walking carefully; any other connotation is in the minds of the moderator who removed this word:lol:

The daily reports from the worshippable Ulrik Ulriksen is coming in: Kronprinsesse Mary hørte voldsramte kvinders historie i Soshanguve | Billed Bladet

Today Mary went to Johannesburg where she met with women who have been victimes of domestic abuse and also reformed wifebeaters, so to speak. They have formed a brotherhood supporting each other in regards to stop beating their wives/girlfriends.
Domestic violence appears to be a very big problem in South Africa.

Mary has been so busy and with the posts being combined I could not decide when they were taken. Thanks for your reply.

The photos with the children are lovely and the children so sweet. With the long plane flight and the busy days you would think Mary should be looking a little tired but she thrives and looks fresh and happy always.
