Well, it looked like she is better at handball, from the way she distributed the balls.

Crown Princess Mary's Visit to Senegal: November 11-15, 2015

H.K.H. Kronprinsessen foretager rejse til Senegal med organisationerne Orchid Project og Tosta den 11. - 15. november - Kongehuset

HRH Crown Princess travels to Senegal with organizations Orchid Project and Tosta from November 11 to 15.
The trip is made in order to obtain experience and a deeper understanding of the organization's work with "Community Empowerment Programs" with special focus on women and girls' rights and female genital mutilation."

Thanks DOM,

Yes Crown Princess Mary will during the day tomorrow travels to Senegal for at 4 days trip.
The trip is made in order to experience and obtain a deeper understanding of the organizations' work with "Community Empowerment Programs" with a special focus on women and girls' rights and female genital mutilation.

I can see there is no section with "press information". Perhaps this is a trip without press? To learn and get a deeper understanding for how the organization are working in practice. Or perhaps the press information is just not published yet.

ADDED:
Maybe we will se F&M's close friend Birgitte Handwerk traveling along as part of the delegation. She is the vice-chairman for orchidproject.dk. Close friend Julie Mølsgaard is on the board too :)

Denmark's really small isn't it ;)

Looking forward to see Mary conducting this very useful mission to a good end!

It seems as my thoughts about the missing box with "press access" was right. It seems that this trip is without media. To learn and get a deeper understanding for how the organization are working in practice. Well done.
Maybe we will get something later on :)

It's a very delicate topic. I guess if Mary wants to learn more and talk to women, they need the confidence of a private conversation.

That's great that she's working without press so she can really understand and help. Good on her

I am thinking that since CP Mary will be the patron of a major women's conference to be held in Copenhagen next year...maybe a documentary will be shown from her visit to Senegal at the conference.

:previous:

I think it's very likely. Or we will get some after the visit has ended tomorrow. Or perhaps it's 'simply' to learn and get close to the women it's all about, and that's just easier and best without press. It in all way once again tells how genuine engaged and involved our Crown Princess is in her work.

Media release from Orchid Project:
HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark witnesses ceremony to abandon female genital cutting.

HRH Crown Princess Mary is a strong voice on the issue of women’s rights and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights around the world. Amongst other roles, she is a member of the High Level Task Force for ICPD, Patron of the UNFPA and Patron of the WHO Regional Office for Europe.

HRH Crown Princess Mary said: “It is both a joy and a privilege to witness local communities celebrate their decision to stop cutting their daughters. This decision has come from within the communities themselves and this is the mark of true and sustainable development.”

The Crown Princess’s presence was arranged by Orchid Project, an NGO working to end female genital cutting. It campaigns on the issue, carries out global awareness-raising work and partners with successful projects overseas. Orchid Project’s Danish brand supports an end to the practice and was also represented at the trip.

What a wonderful message from Mary. Changes like this have to be championed by the communities themselves with support from organizations like these

Beautiful photos of Mary
You can see the connection and commitment from her

Glad we got some information and some pictures from the organization Orchid Project she traveled with. At the same time super authentic and genuine this trip has taken place without the big media. If any media at all.

Mary must be back home in Denmark soon.

Kongehuset has now posted a gallery as well (with the same 3 pictures)

Rejse til Senegal - Kongehuset

Telling us that 52 villages joint public statement and celebration of the villages no longer implement female circumcision. The celebration, which was supported by the organization Orchid Project which Mary traveled with, marks the end of a three-year training program.

Mary's visit to Senegal (11-15 November)

:previous: There doesn't seem to be much, if anything, of Mary's visit to Senegal in the coming magazines out tomorrow.

BB has an article, but that's all.
Kronprinsesse Mary til landsbyfest i Senegal | BILLED-BLADET

So we should probably not expect more from this trip.

That we have a genuine, committed and involved Crown Princess in Denmark can not be in doubt. And I think it's cool and tells much about Mary's genuine and honest personality that she's doing much work without the press/behind the scenes combined with her many other official events :)

:previous: great. continuing her work with women and reproduction rights.
article from Billed Bladet
Kronprinsesse Mary rejser til Burkina Faso i Vestafrika | BILLED-BLADET

"Princess Mary travel in late January with Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen to Burkina Faso in West Africa, where together they will do their best to focus on, among other women's rights and reproductive health.

Over half of all women in Burkina Faso are married before they are 18 years and the infant mortality rate is very high, like genital mutilation of girls and young women as well as marital violence creates many problems both health and social.
...
On the program during the working day, there will be field visits, where Crown Princess Mary have the opportunity to get close to abused women and their children and on the people who are helping them.
When the tasks are completed, traveling crownprincess home to Denmark while Minister Kristian Jensen flight for Summit in Addis Ababa in the East African country of Ethiopia, as the Crown Princess also visited a year ago."
:flowers:

Tonight there are reports that Islamists have taken hostages at a hotel in the capital of Burkina Faso, used by diplomats and UN officials.
Even though there are at present no reports about dead and wounded, there have been gunfire.

I wonder if the visit will be cancelled?

And if it isn't I'm sure security will be increased. That means the heavier armed FET agents will accompany Mary and the minister instead.

ADDED: BT is following the situation as well: http://www.bt.dk/udland/om-bare-ni-dage-mary-planlaegger-rejse-til-terror-ramt-land
http://www.bt.dk/udland/lige-nu-formodede-islamister-holder-gidsler-paa-hotel-og-casino-flere-doede
And reports that several are dead.

Burkina Faso is not used to terror which has become frequent in the neighboring country of Mali. But Mali is a very big country.
- The problem is that Mary may actually be considered a target, because a Danish general is heading the UN-forces in Mali and Danish special forces are to be deployed to Mali within some months.

Follow up. I see from glancing the headlines that the terror attack has been very costly in human lives.
So I think there is a very real probability that the visit will be cancelled.

A second hotel is now under attack!

Soldiers stormed the first hotel, killed the terrorists and freed more than 100 hostages, but now another hotel has been attacked.

As such I think it's safe to say that Mary's visit will be cancelled.

ADDED: Efter Afrika-terror: Endnu ingen planer om at aflyse rejsen for kronprinsesse Mary | BILLED-BLADET

BB has contacted the court about the situation in Burkina Faso and this is what Lene Balleby replied: "It's too early to say whether Crown Princess Mary will be going. We monitor the development, but in the end it's the Foreign Ministry and the police, who decide whether it is safe and the DRF naturally follow their recommandations".

- Since the hotels under attack house foreign guests, including journalists, I'm pretty sure that the press is reconsidering going as well.

Something similar had happened in November 2014 when Queen Mathilde canceled the trip to Burkina Faso due to riots that had broken out in the country.
