:previous: Indeed. Rock-stars and movie-stars and one or two Kardashians have ruthlessly been pushed aside by fans and journalists wishing to get near Stephen Hawkin!!
He has literally been received as the major star, he in several ways is, here in DK.
The tickets to this lecture were gone within a few minutes, so there are distinct advantages in being a royal sometimes. ;)

As with most things the DRF attends this is very much about money.

DK is, perhaps unsurprisingly, a considerable sail-sport nation. Both in regards to competitions but also for leisure. And as such there are lots of marinas dotted all over DK.
Now a major sail-sport event attracts sailing-enthusiasts, both as spectators as well as people who would like to do their own "competition), as well as people who might just like to go for a cruise in Baltic (and Danish waters).

There is a saying in DK that goes something like this: Many little brooks maketh a big river. = Everything, no matter how little, matters when it comes to attract tourism.
And this is where Mary comes in.

:previous: I like them. So regal, especially Frederik in uniform
and Mary with the Danish parure is always a beautiful sight

"I have photographed many heads of state over the years, but never before royalty. It was a pleasure to photograph the royal couple, who were very friendly and welcoming."

And a picture of Mary yesterday with Stephen Hawking

Lovely portraits of the couple. I hope Mary wears that dress to an event so we can see the whole thing.

Strange that the artist chose That photo of Mary when he would have taken so many more with her showing a different expression.
Fred of course looks like a dashing Prince in his uniform. Lets face it who doesn't love a man in a formal uniform.

That is one seriously weird portrait of Mary! https://scontent.fath4-1.fna.fbcdn....=5c737a14b42d4dc526ef5d002f87fbfa&oe=5851A782

She looks spooked or apprehensive or baffled.

What was the artist thinking about?!? :ermm:

I like this portrait of Mary. I think it shows a vulnerability which she must have felt in accepting such a prominent role in a new country, new language, new culture. Even though she is now a confident, poised woman, it reminds us of the journey she took, which had, and maybe still has, many challenges for her.

Actually the reason this portrait may have been chosen is because it creates a mystery as to what the sitter was thinking.
Was she worried?
Was she feeling vulnerable about something?
The list goes on.

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #34, 2016.
Written by Ken Richter.

For the first time in I don't know how many years a new public school has been built in DK. The Frederikbjerg School in, you guessed it, Frederiksbjerg, which is a charming part of Aarhus city.
Here some 900 pupils are attending, who somehow managed to sit still and listen when Mary gave her three minutes speech and officially opened the school.
"The first day at school after the summer holiday is always exciting. Perhaps not everyone will admit it, but most in one way or another look forward.
For all of you who have been following the building of your fantastic new school, it must have been hard to wait for the school-year to begin.
Such grand surroundings you have. In a way it's you pupils, along with the staff who is going to build up the school. What values are to be applied here on the school? How do you address each other? How do you look after each other and how do you create the good community, so that there is room for all".

After that Mary changed shoes and went to the estate of Wilhelmsborg in the outskirt of Aarhus to watch an equestrian event. (Whatever it's called when horses and riders jump over fences). Mary presented the medals for the European teams that took part. In the article you can see a photo of Mary presenting bronze to the German team.
(You'll find the scans in the QM & PH thread).

Notice the adjutant who is wearing M&F's monogram on his uniform.

Don't ask me what it means, because it's the first time I notice it.

Is that not Frederik's monogram? I can't see the M.

I need new glasses it seems.

Well, Frederik is not affiliated with a special regiment and certainly no navy unit.
- There is no the Crown Prince's Own Regiment of Rifles in DK, as there is for the queen consort and the prince consort.

Mary, when she becomes queen will have a regiment affiliated to her: Dronningens Livregiment (*). And should Frederik die before her and she moved to say Gråsten, it will soldiers from that battalion who will stand guard outside the manor.

Perhaps the adjutant has been permanently attached to the court of M&F?
The adjutants normally all belongs to QMII's staff of adjutants and the rest of the DRF borrow an adjutant when needed.

(*) Which has now been amalgamated into Jyske Dragonregiment, so that it now constitute a battalion under that regiment.

.

Perhaps he is, but I would have thought he would still wear the monogram of the regent.

Or they have simply started to wear the monogram of the person they are attached?
Which would make it more simple when there are several adjutants around.

Mary looks fantastic. She has had a busy week, and she is off to Greenland on Monday. Always with a beautiful smile and attitude.

More info about the anniversary, Frederik was there in 1991 for the 800 anniversary

So it's an 850 year old Music Festival in Glostrup. Is that right? Good grief what did they play 800 years ago. Ha Ha.
