Thanks, Roskilde. :flowers:

Two videos from TV2 local news of Mary a Skejby University Hospital in Aarhus.
TV 2 | ØSTJYLLAND | Overlæge: Mary var meget hjertelig | Nyheder | Aarhus
She saw a part of a several hour operation of a fourteen year old boy who had a hole in his heart. The procedure is brand new is he will be discharged tomorrow. He was actually to have been discharged today, but there was a little bleeding so he is kept at hospital over night.
The procedure otherwise went well and it was a very delighted boy on the news tonight who looked forward to be able to run and do sports with his friends.

And one more at the children's ward:

especially the smile from the little girl in video one. :flowers:

So she actually watched an operation? I wouldn't have the stomach for it

Indeed sweet videos. Mary visited the "Heart children" as patron.

The man we hear talk in the first video is a consultant Jesper Bjerre at the Heart Children's Clinic and he was very happy with today's royal visit.

Let's take a look at what he says:

- "I think it went really well. There was a good atmosphere around all the place and the Crown Princess was very interested."

It was especially the children Mary was interested in talking to.

- "It was clearly the children she focused on, and I must say Mary is very heartwarming and present. It was almost touching."

Oh, it wasn't dramatic and bloody.
Many if not most heart procedures today are carried out via the main arteries in the groin. And that was the case with this procedure as well and that was also the reason the boy was scheduled to the leave the hospital the same day despite having patched up a hole in his heart.

A BT article I don't think our otherwise very active Roskilde :flowers: has covered.

First Mary went to the hospital and met children and parents as well as staff.
A dad of a seven year old patient, Mikkel Randløv Møller, said: "We have talked a lot about it and Maya has really been looking forward to the meeting".
Maya BTW is no stranger to the DRF, she had been a flowergirl previously and presented flowers to QMII.
Dad goes on: "Maja has a "bamse" (= teddy bear) it's called Bamse to the Rescue and she so much wanted Mary to give the bamse a hug. Mary was in on that right away and Bamse to the Rescue got a big hug. That meant a lot to Maja".
Maja was a bit shy but said afterwards: "It was nice to meet Mary, she's really sweet".

Today, Crown Princess Mary has make a visit to Aarhus University Hospital with (and as patron of) the Danish Heart Association:

Mary met health professionals for heart disease and the pediatric clinic... but the most important was that Mary met lot's of the "heart children" and watched an operation of a 14-year-old boy who should have closed a gap in the heart.

Lovely pictures of Mary and two of the "Heart children"

A sweet article from Aarhus Stifttidende:
Kronprinsesse Mary besøgte børnene på hjerteafdelingen - Aarhus | stiften.dk

Crown Princess Mary shone like the sun when she this morning arrived at Aarhus University Hospital in Skejby.

At the Paediatric Department and in the outpatient treatment had both children and parents looking forward to meeting the Crown Princess.

"We have talked a lot about it and Maya has really been looking forward to the meeting," said Mikkel Randlev Moller, father of 7-year-old Maja who is a outpatient cardiac patient.

There is no doubt what the highlight was the seven-year-old heart patient.

"Maja has a teddy bear - it's called 'Teddy to the rescue' and she wanted that Mary gave the bear a hug. Mary was immediately keen on the idea and Teddy got a huge hug. It meant a lot to Maja," said Mikkel Randlev Moller. Crown Princess Mary and Maia talked about both being a heart patient to go to school and to have hobbies. Although the royal visit did Maja a little shy she was glad for the experience. "It was lovely to meet Mary and she was really sweet," Maya said.

"It was a huge experience for my son to greet HRH Crown Princess Mary today at the children's ward.
Lovely that she took the time to all the children - to listen, to talk and to fool around with them"

First- Love, love these pictures. And I'm taking a wild guess here- that not only Maja's bear got a hug- but Maja did too. ;) :)
Second- That is a lovely photo.

Roskilde, thanks for the lovely pics, they make your heart warm. Mary is wonderful with the children, I like that she always takes the time to actually listen to them. Mary has a warm and caring heart.

"- We should welcome the important results that Danish heart researchers have achieved and continue to strive to achieve. We have come very far in the control and treatment of cardiovascular disease both in Denmark and internationally, said Princess Mary in his speech.

- Almost none of us go through life untouched by cardiovascular disease. Either because we get hit, because
we become caregivers to a family member, or because we know a close friend or friend who is heart patient, said Princess Mary."

I hope we will get the super lovely picture of the children hugging Mary in a bigger version today. It's one of the most lovely pictures I have seen this year. :) Sadly especially Billed Bladet has a tendency to save their best pictures to the paper version of their magazine.

As a poster pointed out to me last night, it has indeed been a really good family month for F&M back home in Australia during the Christmas month. The CP-couple may always shine - but Mary glows!!... fresh, summer glow and with slightly rounder cheeks and other areas (;

Plus another cute article from Billedbladet telling us that Mary and little 3-years old Charlie who is one of the Heart Children immediately recognize each other. Charlie also met Mary a few months ago when she visited him at Skejby University Hospital. Several times we have also seen how Mary can remembers the Heart children's names...even after several years.
Glad kronprinsesse Mary genså hjertebarnet Charlie | BILLED-BLADET

:previous: what a very cute story with Charlie and that he invited the princess to his house :flowers:

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #02, 2014.
Written by Marianne Singer.

Mary recently went to an event at the posh hotel D'Angleterre in Copenhagen, where she met a number of people from the Heart Association. They included a number of children who in one way or another take part in a new film about siblings to children who suffer from heart defects, because naturally that affects their siblings as well and often in ways they don't know how to express - or just as bad, don't express.

While there Mary presented three grants to researchers and she had a brilliant rapport with the children, the whole thing culminating in a group-hug. - Presumably something they have learned from the children's support groups.

However, the chairman of the Heart Association, Anne Kaltoft, gave a very nice speech to Mary. The speech involved three year old Charlie, who is seen in the photos close to Mary holding a Rasmus Klump bear.
"I especially remember one of the children whom Your Royal Highness met in Aarhus and whom you (formal) have just met again here at d'Angleterre, that is three year old Charlie Cornell.
When we went to the chidren's ward (in Aarhus) Charlie was sitting in his bed in the room looking forward to meeting you. He had just gone trhough his third major heart operation and I clearly remember right away felt completely at ease with you, then as he did now.
He actually wanted to tell you about a kangaroo - for obvious reasons he may have been encouraged to take up that subject - but then he very much would like to show you his nails on his toes, because the toes was "luserøde" punk (*), as Charlie put it.
Before Charlie's surgery the nails had been mostly blue, by now his heart had been reconstructed and he had had a much better blood-flow with a much better oxygene-level and now the nails were, as Charlie put it, "luserøde" punk.
I have by the way, heard rumors that Charlie as a true gentlemen invited you to Viborg (a town), where you should come, not to see his stamp-collection, but his toys.
That shows that Charlie very quickly spotted the qualities of the Crown Princess, and so have we here in the Heart Association for a long time".

(*) A charming little mispronunciation by a two year old, which I have tried to translate into something similar.

You can see more from the visit here: https://app.box.com/s/xskhvg63icjavnor925tabq9n9vitmqs

As patron of the Heart Association Mary today visited the maternity ward at Rigshospitalet, where she herself gave birth.

SE BILLEDET: Kronprinsesse Mary overværede hjertescanning af lille Karl Emil | BILLED-BLADET

Here she saw a heart-scanner in action, scanning newly born Karl Emil.
This is an offer called Copenhagen Bay Heart, where all new-born are offered to be scanned for heart-failures. The point of course being to spot any problems as soon as possible.

Here she also met the doctor who was in charge of her when she gave birth, Morten Hedegaard. (Is he BTW related to Søren Hedegaard, Mary's hairdresser?)

Søren Hedegaard caused a lot of stir recently, because he resigned as head of the maternity ward in protest at the 2% savings all Danish hospital have had to meet over now many years.
While that does have decreased inefficiency and reduced excess spending, these goals are now so unrealistic that it effects patient-security, not to mention the work-environment for the employees. - IMO another example of economists setting up targets that look good on Power Point, but has little to do with the people who it is affecting.
Even though some politicians actually tried, it is difficult to tell one of the most experienced and competent pediatricians in DK that he doesn't know what he is talking about... So the politicians are finally about to scrap the 2% yearly savings.

- I'm sure some Danish members, like Roskilde, could write a 5.000 word comment to that! ;)

A little question for the English-speakers: When does a baby become a toddler? - When they begin to walk? Or speak?
And when do they stop being a toddler?

Thanks for the pictures from Mary's two events today.

One thing I will mention which I think says a lot about Mary.
Several writes enthusiastically how Crown Princess Mary during her visit at the maternity ward at Rigshospitalet, also stuck her head in and said 'hello' to other departments in the hospital on her way home.
It's such a little thing that means ALOT to people!

VIDEO: Kronprinsesse Mary overraskede blomsterpigen Alma | BILLED-BLADET

By accident Mary losed a single red rose from her bouquet as the flower girl Alma had give Mary upon arrival.

With a quick snap Crown Princess Mary catched the deep red rose from the floor and surprised everyone by giving it to Alma.

That gave the biggest smile at the little girl who for a moment seemed completely overwhelmed :)
