I am quite certain that Isabella is wearing the newer, lighter East Greenlandic Kalaallisuut because that way they represent both the East and West Greenlandic Kalaallisuuts. Josephine is wearing the lesser known North Greenlandic Kalaallisuut consisting of high kamiks.

Frederik and Christian are both wearing the traditional national costume for men/boys consisting of a white anorak, black trousers and sealskin kamiks. Vincent, like his twin, is wearing the North Greenlandic national costume consisting of polar bear trousers and a blue anorak.

^^ thank you for info arcduchess zelia:)

they all looks fantastic... isabella is really wonderful with her traditional hair and all :) the twins just so adorable..their facial expression is glorious "what on earth is this i am wearing?"

i also read in several media that frederik&mary are in traditional west greenlandic costume, isabella in traditional east greenlandic costume & vincent&josephine in traditional thule costumes..so they represent the entire greenland :)

i also read that a local woman living in the city they visited yesterday wrote how popular it is in greenland that vincent&josephine has greenlandic names.

love this photo of josephine:)

Article and pictures from Greenlandic newspaper Sermitsiaq where we get revealed yet another nickname in the family Frederik and Mary. Reporters noticed that Christian called Vincent for 'Vincer'. So Mary is 'Maz', Isabella is 'Bella', Vincent is 'Vincer' and Josephine is 'Phine'.

TV2 video of Christian kicking a penalty goal. Well, the first hitting the post, but the second he scored in the corner.

And came across this quite nice story:
Dansk Forening for Rosport - Dannebrog, Frederik, Mary og 32 roere fra Danmark i Narsaq

A team of kayakers got an idea a few months ago when they read F&M and children were going on summer cruises to Greenland. They would like to follow them and would love to meet and greet them. So they wrote a mail to the court and got a 'yes'. F&M would be glad to meet them and the little meeting took place on the first day of the harbor. It even stand in the official programme. And it was a big and enjoyable experience for both part:

"Both Frederik and Mary are genuinely interested in our long journey and ask a lot of nice questions about security, water temperatures, morning bathing in the cold water, accommodations, sailing distances and rowing as a sport."

"After about 10 minutes F&M says goodbye just as charming and friendly as they started it."

"The Crown Prince Couple are whistled aboard, but come out for a drink on the aft deck and it is obvious to sense that Frederik and Mary enjoying the moment - they hold about each other and come with enthusiastic comments to each other and to us (the rowers)."

Articles from Royalista and Sermitsiaq from the tree planting in Ivalo and Minik's poplar grove:

Greenland tour: The Danish royals in Greenlandic national costumes | Royalista

Billedgalleri fra Qaqortoq: Kronprinsfamilien fik træer | Sermitsiaq.AG (including the lovely group photos of the years 1968 and 1972 – which shows that there are considerably more Qaqortoq citizens from 1968 than from 1972, they should have done it with the children as well).

I love how Sermitsiaq are actually calling the twins Prince Minik and Princess Ivalo

EDIT:
Another article from Royalista, this time about Mary and Frederik's visit to Ivaaraq:

Once again, thank you to those who posted videos, photos and reports of the family's visit to Greenland. I think this is probably one of my favourite royal visits of the year so far. I'm pleased that Mary and Frederik are bringing the children along to events whenever they can. I love this photo of Mary and Christian in particular, it would've been fun to have been a fly on the wall during that moment.

I thought how the children wore national dress from different areas of Greenland was a nice gesture. What part of Greenland do the Thules come from? I'm guessing the North or the South, since they haven't been mentioned yet. It seems that Frederik and Mary are well connected to Greenland, given that Josephine and Vincent have Greenlandic names. It would be nice if one of the children could learn Greenlandic in the future.

And that photo of Josephine is adorable. I also think that Vincent is looking more and more like Frederik with his new hair cut.

The twins are wearing the North Greenlandic (Avannaa) national costumes consisting of high kamiks for women and polar bear trousers for men.

I can add that the town of Thule is located very high to the north, close to the Thule Base.
An American military base, that used to (and I presume is now again being used) be an important link in the early warning chain under SAC (Strategic Air Command) protecting North America from attack.

It is also used by the Danish Air Force, often for Danish planes operating over Canada. Despite the dispute over Hans Island, between Canada and Greenland, Canada and Denmark have very civilized turned that dispute into something productive.
Danish military planes now operate rutinely over Canada in search and rescue missions and if need be to transport medical cases to hospitals in Greenland. (Because the Danish planes are designed to and their crews well trained in landing on rough landing strips.) And if need be transport complicated cases to Rigshospitalet in Denmark. Because logistically speaking that distance can be shorter and simpler than from north east Canada to major hospitals in southern Canada.
On the other hand newly build Canadian coast guard ships now operate in search and rescue missions in Greenlandic waters from time to time.
Both Canada and Greenland have a big interest in controlling the waters between Greenland and Canada, not least in regards to avoid pollution and over-fishing but also because both countries benefit from the increased tourism in arctic waters. And these tourists mainly come by ship.

I have a question, maybe this a bit off-topic, but the Greenlandic population seem to be rather Asian, I mean, their looks and facial features. They look like southern asians, the eyes and the dark skin tone. What are their roots?

Present day Greenlanders have Siberian roots. They belong to a very recent migration, arriving in Greenland only some 1.000 years ago, after trekking at almost record speed across Canada.

Their ancestors came from Chukotka (Russian Far East). It's Asia.

Thank you Muhler, as always for your insights. I do hope Canadian/Danish cooperation will lead to improvements for our Arctic citizens. From the pictures I have seen so far (and thank you to all for posting!) the conditions in the various Greenlandic villages are very good and the children are kitted out with modern Iphones, video games and football pitches. Children with physical and mental challenges are well taken care of with proper mobility devices and what looks like happy and healthy school rooms. That this is not necessarily the case in the Canadian north is something with which fellow Canadians will agree; one can only hope that the Danish examples will inspire change. I do wonder however if the cost of living in Greenland is subsidized by the Danish government? A continuing issue is the great distance that entails great cost for items like fresh fruit and vegetables. How is this dealt with in Greenland

Greenland does recieve subsidies from DK. IIRC some 500 million DKK (Close to 100 million Dollars) a year, and considering the population of Greenland is some 55.000-60.000 that's pretty generous.
Living costs can as you indeed suggest be expensive for some items.
However, fish is considerably cheaper in Greenland than in DK.
Greenlanders (and Faeroese) have the same access to higher education in Denmark as ethnic Danes.

I had a slight crush on a Greenlandic/Danish girl back in my school days and she was indeed a real eye-pleaser!

TV2 at 19.00 had a brief segment from today's events. The whole family again went out to greet people, when Frederik noticed a couple of twins, just about Minik and Ivalo's age and called for Mary, so that their own twins could say proper hello to their Greenlandic colleagues, so to speak.

I love the looks of children who are mix between diferent ethnycies. The genes are so fun! I would not mind at all marrying someone "diferent" than me.
How cool was it, if Christian married a Greenlander? That would be so awesome and I'm sure people in Greenland would be so happy and pleased

It would be phenomenal. I am only 1/4 Greenlandic, so obviously I can't speak for everyone in Greenland, but I reckon that would be a popular decision. I'm sure it would also bind Denmark and Greenland even closer together, there has been a lot of talk about independence these last couple of years, but I reckon that could potentially slow down the process.

Seeing how comfortable all the children are in Greenland, I don't think it's impossible that one of them might potentially study in Greenland for a year or just stay there for a year, as a sort of gap year.
