Loved the video...has made me want to buy the entire Jakob Martin Strid oeuvre of kids books...even though we are not Danish speakers and my kids aren't either...but I love foreign language kids books...Love Nive Neilson and Nephew now too ;)

Great pictures and video! Really loved watching the kids in action. Christian's comment about the Prime Minister was quite spot on. Looks like he's already learning the workings of the government.

I loved watching the segment with Christian and Isabella, even though I couldn't understand what they were saying. They looked like they were having a great time, and they seem like very well brought up and charming kids.

Exerpts from article in Billed Bladet #41, 2012.
Mary og Frederiks små TV-stjerner - Mary and Frederik's little TV-stars.
Written by our art-reporter Ulrik Ulriksen.

This will be focusing on the children.
The prize was awarded to the children's book author Jakom Martin Strid, whose books are read aloud for M&F's children, so our reporter asked whether their children had a say in wh should be awarded.
Mary replied: "Yes, you can say that the children has taken part in the decision. In their very own way".

Christian and Bella were also filmed with their parents at the National Museum for Art, which in that way got a lot of needed PR.
(I haven't seen the clips yet, so any Danish member please correct me).
They were seen in a workshop at the museum displaying their creative talents.
Christian being the older and more experienced threw himself into the creative process: "I think I'm going to make a porcupine". Bella on the other hand watched her brother before she decided what to do, with the words: "Christian. (*) The scissors, please".

Then it was time for a tour of the museum. Isabella spotted an abstract culture: "That's an elephant". - And perhaps it really was, our reporter couldn't tell....
And Christian was facinated by an artwork that looked like a giant foot to him. (**)

- The Crown Princely Couple very consiously use art in their upbringing of their children and in that way they develope Christian and Isabella's very own and personal view of the world. At the same time it's alovely way to play-learn knowledge. Both for adults and children.
"This here is merly a tool to express yourself in a creative way. It perhaps also gives them a good strength to further develope not just creativity but also other skills and abillitied later on in life", said Mary in the segment about the use of art in bringing up children. Frederik too had something to say for both his children and for others, who are interested in art-experiences.
"My best advise is that you go to the National Museum for Art, where there is a huge collection. And then it's about being curious and be prepared for that everything is game, and that you will be met by everything and then embrace it and relate to it. It's simply down with the guard, relax in the shoulders and enjoy what you see. And let the picture absorb you for a moment", said Frederik and (he) could from his spot on the sideline experience how his two oldest children followed his advise, while they strolled aroud the National Musesum for Art in Copenhagen.
At the same time it must have been a special experience to watch the little ones take in art with the mother's milk (idiom). Just as Frederik himself did by Queen Margrethe many year ago.
"My mother is very much interested in painting and drawing. I also made my own experiences in regards to painting and drawing, when I was little. My patience and calm wasn't good enough however", concluded the Crown Prince, who thereby acknowledged that he isn't a great artist himself.

(*) So no nickname for him it seems, just Christian.

(**) Children are the world's best art critics, period!
They are completely unbiased and they look at things with from all sorts of angles, while adults have a tendency to become cultist, elitist and snobbish when it comes to art.

:previous:Thank you Muhler for this and all translations :flowers:

its nice that Museum got some PR.
and that Christian and Isabella get to be creative and like to do art

Muhler, as always, I enjoyed reading the translations you provided. It's so interesting to learn how Frederik and Mary bring up their children.

:previous: It was my pleasure, dear ladies. :)

The show will be broadcasted live on DR1 at 8pm.

The Crown Princely Couple's Award show has become a major annual event - also the reason why DR1 sends the entire show in prime time on a Saturday Night.

^^^always a great evening..looking forward

News about the Crown Princely Awards 2014.

This is an event which has become a big annual event. Also on Danish TV. This year it's the tenth time Frederik and Mary hands out their culture prizes. Over the years it has become an event transmitted on our largest channel in prime time on a Saturday evening.

A new feature this year is that the red carpet is also streamed live at dr.dk already at. 19:20. Here is one of our major news hosts Ulla Essendrop host on the red carpet when new and old winners, famous faces and of course the Crown Prince Couple arrive at the show. When the TV show has finished on DR1 at. 21:30, Ulla Essendrop again takes over and she will interviews the evening's winners and guest stars live on dr.dk.

Nikolaj Koppel is again the shows tv-host along with one of our greatest comedians Lars Hjortshøj. He will, throughout the evening, guide viewers and audience through the highlights from the past awards - and then he met former winners to hear what the prices has meant to them.

Shaka Loveless and Broken Twin are some of the names that they can reveal at this time there will entertain at the show, but there are also surprises to come. Among some of the biggest crowd-pleasers...

Nikolaj Koppel er vært ved Kronprinsparrets Priser 2014 | bikubenfonden.dk

It's always a pleasure to see the Crown Princely Awards and I like all four children the past several years has become a part of the show too :)

I had completely forgotten that this was happening this month. What a pleasant surprise. I am quite sure they're going to include at least Christian and Isabella in a little segment, just like in the past few years – perhaps they'll even bring them this year.

That was the cutest part last year

In connection with M&F presenting the awards on Saturday, DR1 has an article about the significanse of getting such an award: Eksperter om priser fra Kronprinsparret: Det er mere end et skulderklap | Kultur | DR

This year it will be a photographer, Lærke (*) Posselt, and an actress, Johanne Louise Schmidt.

The chairman of the Association of Press Photographers, Lars Lindskov, says it's a huge pad on the shoulder to get that particular award: "Lærke has won international competitions like World Press Photo before, but that's one thing. To win the CP Couple's talent award is an honorary award that is cementing her career and it's an incredible nice cadeau for her and the whole photo journalism as an area.
The CP couple's talent award is very much an aknowledged award, which is respected within the business. And in particular also within the field of photography, now that Lærke has won"....

Author and film expert, Schleperen, says: "The world is full of awards, but the CP Couple's is one that difintely acreates attention. As an actor it's about being noticed (most actors are unemployed most of the time) more than the ones next to you and when you are a young up-coming talent, then it's a very visible award to get.
The CP Couple's Awards is an event with a lot of media coverage (**) and that's why it's a good award to recieve. Because you can debate whether it's grander to get a Reumert (the DK equivalent to an Emmy I guess) but the decisive thing is that someone hear about the award and see the one who gets it. So that's why the CP Couple's Awards is a good thing.
It's good for the CV and there is no doubt that the award can lead to more considering offering Johanne roles. There is an incredible number of awards, but when it's the CP Couple who presents an award, then it sounds young and exciting and that's a good stamp to get as an actor".

(*) Lærke incidentally mean lark, you know, the songbird. A very typical name the 68'ers gave their children.

(**) The world of culture here in DK is a small world, where everybody know everybody else. And just like the rest of us they love to talk about eachother...and themseves - at length...! Which is why this Culture Award get such massive coverage.
From 19.20 Saturday on DR1 to be exact.

So it's tonight that the Crown Princely Couple Prizes 2014 will be awarded:

And DR1 has a lot of articles up to the show and here is how the four award winners are found: (more articles in the bottom at the page)
GRAFIK Sådan tildeler Kronprinsparret deres priser | Kultur | DR

When four Danes from the arts and social world tonight receive one of the Crown Prince Couple's Prices there's a long selection process behind.

Two advisory committees make proposals, then the Crown Prince Couple comes with their proposals, so they all talk together, but it's ultimately the Crown Prince Couple themselves who make the decisions and assign the prizes.

Here's a picture that illustrates how:

As a new feature dr.dk this year will have a live blog from the red carpet before "The Crown Prince Couple Prices" show begins at DR1. Here you can see guests and the Crown Prince Couple arrive and there will be web TV, live-blog and the best from the social media.

I don't know whether you can see it abroad, but maybe ...

01:15 into the show you will se Frederik and Mary cracking up laughing - IMO the funniest part with Lars Hjortshøj (comedian), I had a very funny time as well. Lars Hjortshøj said it was "tacky" of Frederik that he implements all that Ironman stuff - for hey, it puts him and other Danish men in a very bad light. He comes home to his wife who says "Well honey, him Frederik has just completed an Ironman. In 10 hours!" "But then I thought that if I also had such a fantastic wife as you Frederik I would also increases the tempo and hurry home to her as well."

Clips of F&M/children were this year (10 years for the show) replaced with clips of how it has gone the various award winners over the last decade. Miss those clips this year, however, hope they returning next year. It's always a fun feature in the show.

The new 'House of Music' in Aalborg is a beautiful place. But compared to last year's show in no less than the Sydney Opera House this show was of course a little more relaxed and toned down IMO. But F&M wins because they simply seems as such nice, down to earth, relaxed people. Very warm and attentive to their award winners with big hugs and pats on the shoulders.

Watched the show with half an eye and noticed that while some of the jokes were being told, I.e. before the punch line fell, Mary looked concentrated a few times. Picking up instantly the subtleties in humour is indeed one of the most difficult things in a new language. Perhaps not made any easier, because Danish humour tend to be full of subtleties, irony and self-mockery.

Example: The entertainer Lars Hjortshøj (the guy with glasses) chastised Frederik on behalf of the... eeh... well-build men in their late forties, when their (well, our) wives told them that Frederik had just completed another ironman, while their husbands were still trying to catch their breath walking back from the gas-station with a bag of chips.
Mary looked concentrated here, but she got the punchline.
Especially the follow-up, when Lars Hjortshøj retorted to his wife that it was no wonder Frederik completed the ironman in that time, with that wife waiting for him at home...

Mary got it at once when Lars Hjortshøj claimed that he and Frederik has basically the same body-build - he (Hjortshøj) merely needed to gain twenty centimeters...

However, the concentrated look returned when Hjortshøj told how he, spurred on by his wife, went to a sports store, because he had now decided to become fit, and he needed some equipment. (Equipment is alpha and Omega for men, being the tool-users we are). And inside the sports store the female shop assistant looked at him and suggested: "Well how about a sports-bra for a start"?

thank you so much; mange tak (I heard this a lot) for the link to this show, that I watched and enjoyed very much. Once in a while I heard words like 'aboriginal' that I did understand but I wonder whether Danish speakers could tell me the context?:flowers:

That was the entertainer Lars Hjortshøj again.
He was "miffed" that he hadn't been invited to Sydney last year as he would have liked to see Australia. The wildlife, the Aboriginals and so on.
Then come to think of it, he said, we Jutlanders are a kind of aboriginals ourselves. (The show took place in Jutland and Lars Hjorthøj is a Jutlander). That made M&F crack up.
He continued that considering the general behavior i Jomfru Ane Gade (a local street consiting entirely of bars and diskoes) the Australian Aboriginals are more civilized.
However, the Aboriginals have developed the boomerang which return to the thrower, while Jutlanders, being more lazy, bring a dog when throwing sticks. So in that way the Aboriginals need some catching up.
Both peoples play long instruments, the didgeridoo (spl? and the lur. Both equally irritating to listen to...

Here's a glorious gallery of Frederik and Mary cracking up laughing when a comedian makes a little fondly fun with them during the show:

To understand why comes here a part of the comedian Lars Hjortshøj's quite hilarious reminder to Frederik. It's pure Danish humor, it's interesting whether you in other parts of the world find it as funny as we do.

"I would say to the Crown Prince, and it's on behalf of very very many men in the late 40s. Can't we please stop with all this Ironman stuff? Because it gives a CRAZY pressure on us other men. We other men in the 40's... we are put into a really bad light! Then we will come home to the wife who says "Yeah, Crown Prince Frederik has completed the Ironman in the time 10 hours and it's really fast..." Then I think, yes I'm perfectly aware, but well, if I had such an amazing wife I would for sure increase the tempo up a bit and hurry home home as well, that's for sure!"

One more thing - the girl with the curly red hair in the lace dress, who is she and what did she do that she got the prize? She's very cute, and certainly thrilled to get the award. It looks as though it started off as a handshake and ended in a big hug :)

Oh dear, this is what we call 'double edged humour' that is not only hilarious but quite deadly! In Canada, we are probably too polite to make jokes like this but it is nice to know that in Denmark, such things are not only allowed, but encouraged!

Mange tak yet again Muhler! (is it true that there are hundreds of ways to say 'thank you' in Danish?) Your translation tells me that my next project should be to arrange a year in Denmark as an exchange student/teacher so that I can learn the language, as I like your sense of humour very much indeed!:flowers:

A man on Facebook who have really big interest in The Royal family (and also runs a page) can tell that Frederik and Mary took the train home from Aalborg to Copenhagen after the show last night. Arrival at Copenhagen Central Station 5:30 this morning :coffee:

At the night there is long way from the one end of Denmark to the other.

So are jokes about handicapped, race, religion, death and so on. The more non-pc the better. :p

Should that ever happen, expect constant irony, dark and non-pc humour.
Quite a few foreigners are shocked when first facing the daily banter and jokes on a Danish work place.

But if such jokes are told to you or at least around you and especially if you are teased, it usually means you are accepted. So that's a compliment.

I don't know how many words there are for thanks in Danish, in a way it's just like the word please, which we don't have an equivalent for, because it's built into the subtleties of the sentences and intonation.

Example:

Vær venlig at hoppe ud af vinduet - Please jump out the (tenth floor) window = That's a polite order.
Vær venlig at hoppe ud af vinduet, tak - Please jump out the window, thank you = A polite order you'd better obey because I'm really annoyed with you!
Hop ud af vinduet - Jump out the window - A command.
Vær sød at hoppe ud af vinduet - Be sweet and/please jump out the window = A polite request, usually among female friends. (Said to a man by a man it would be a joke).
Vær lige sød at hoppe ud af vinduet = Please jump out the window = Now it's even friendlier request, usually among female friends. Inserting the word "lige" will turn a polite or unfriendly request into a friendly request. The other way around if you omit it.
Vær rar at hoppe ud af vinduet, vil du ikke nok - Be kind/please jump out the window, please/won't you = now it's a request in the form of a plea.
Vil du gøre mig en tjeneste og hoppe ud af vinduet - Will you do me a favour and jump out the window = A polite request most will be willing to do to out of politeness.
Gør mig en tjeneste og hop ud af vinduet - Do me favour and jump out the window = Before I kick you out myself! An unfriendly request.
Gør mig en tjeneste og hop ud af vinduet, så er du sød - Do me a favour and jump out the window, that'd be sweet of you = Now it's a friendly request, usually aimed at children.
And so on, and so on and so on. I could continue with at least twenty more examples, none of them directly involves a word like please.

And you now know why Mary and our Marie sometimes must have gone to bed with a blistering headache...:D

Have to say the Comedian's sense of humour is very much like the people living in Cape Town, South Africa. My style of humour!
