Crown Prince Frederik's 50th Birthday Celebrations: May 2018

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
But wasn't that around noon. They reaklly should have keept Elena as a working member. Also nobody of them was at the Württemberg funeral yesterday and the Houses had keept good contacts in the Past.

I suppose they still have the former king and queen as working members too. In the past the Infanta Pilar did attend events abroad, a pity this could not be repeated for the Infanta Elena.

Leave it these royals to celebrate major birthdays in the grand and proper way. Love it!

So, was he basically using Tony Blair's now infamous quote with different words ?

I am not sure it was a Blair-original. It was used for Mary Adeleide of Teck too and I am sure for lots of other royals over the centuries.

Will Mary be giving a speech?

She may very well, because they won't say the name of the next speaker. And there will also be some entertainment.

When the dinner ends, it's time for coffee and then the guests will mingle in the various rooms adjacent to this hall.

When it's time to go a fifer and a drummer from the Royal Lifeguard Regiment will take up position in the room furthest away from the entrance. Then they will drum the Tappenstreg.
The drummer and fifer will walk through all the rooms in which there are guests, and the DRF and Foreign royals will form up behind and walk along. When the procession reach the front door, so to speak, the door will be shut behind them.
The royals will then have time to get into their cars and leave. Then the guests will leave in whatever mode they choose.

The Tappenstreg is derived from Tappenstreich, it actually means that the tap is put into the barrels of beer. In the armies of the 1500's when it was time to return to camp, such drummers marched through the baggage train (with mistresses and families as well and ad hoc bars and brothels.) And also through the local villages and towns as a signal to the soldiers that it was time for bed.
If the soldiers did not follow the drummer, the Huhrenwebel and the Profoss and their burly and hard-hitting men, would make sure the soldiers would return to camp - the hard way!
The Profoss would also close down any bar still foolish enough to remain open and the Hurenwebel would in no uncertain terms explain that the prostitutes were no longer available for service!

This is how it looks and sounds, albeit without uniform. The tune is also young, only a couple of hundred years.

"The people's [King/Queen/Prince/Princess/*insert name*]" wasn't originated by Blair  I've seen both Christian X and Frederik IX referred to as "the people's King". And I'm not one to defend our PM but I definitely don't think he meant to emulate Blair there.

It seems that Frederik is getting a very lavish celebration for his fiftieth; it does seem somewhat OTT considering that he is not the monarch yet, but I'm not complaining because it means we get to see more of the CP family and also get to see all the wonderful gowns and tiaras!
It was nice to see Nikolai tonight, he did look nervous but IIRC it's his first time attending such a grand event with other monarchs and important figures present so it's only natural. Hopefully at the next tiara event we'll see him with the Elephant. I'm glad that Countess Alexandra was present as well and in a tiara despite the fact she's no longer married to Joachim.
I loved the family photo - the children are all getting grown up now; particularly Isabella. She's turning into a pretty young lady and it seems that Josephine is taking her place as the little ball of energy ?

King Juan Carlos is in Kiev at the Real Madrid match but there is no reason the Spanish court could not have sent Queen Sofia or Infanta Elena.Poor show as usual from Spain.

On DR, they're showing a replay of the royals arriving and it still tickles me that these kings, queens, dukes, duchesses, princes, princess, and etc. are riding in these large travel busses. Imagine stepping on and seeing them all just sitting there in pairs and rows in their military dress, gowns and tiaras.

The whole thing is delayed considerably. Presumably they are enjoying themselves at the dinner.
But we are still waiting for yet another speech and some entertainment.

Another photo of Nikolai who looks a little out in the deep end. I'm glad he has a younger table partner: https://images.scribblelive.com/2018/5/26/bebe199b-5aa8-4956-8ba8-65456d41f06a_1000.jpg

My DR 1 coverage just ended abruptly a couple of minutes ago. Can't get it anymore.

Still on here in DK.

Next speech is on in a moment.

You read my mind:lol: Anyway Letizia does not appear to enjoy these types of events.

Given the seating arrangements, Letizia and Marie Chantal possibly could not have even crossed paths. In any case, Letizia had to be in Spain for Armed Forces day. Queen Sofia or Infanta Elena could have been there, but they wouldn't have an obvious pair to escort them.

That song must very much be aimed at QMII.

Very fitting BTW and modern.

- It's from a musical about Treasure Island, about the feelings of the boy's mother as she see him leave on the ship embarking on the big adventure. Knowing that the boy she knew will be gone forever now. He is sailing away from mother - and growing up.

Why is Frederik getting emotional ? Does the music have some special meaning to him ?

Aw, such a fitting song

Crossing my fingers for a speech from Mary afterwards though.

Indeed! I can imagine it will fuel the speculation (again) about Queen Margrethe II's "imminent abdication".

Wonderful!

Mary talks about Frederik being fond of telling jokes. And laughing at the same jokes.
And telling the same jokes again and again... - still having fun.

She finds him sexy in Lycra. - But white Lycra... white Lycra with a helmet and rollerskis... Nah.

His children, while loving dad deeply, are also in agreement that dad is a sore loser, and that Vincent is very much his dad's son in that respect!

That was a very warm, loving, funny and fine speech.
Ending by saying: "Congratulations, I love you."

Thanks so much for these updates and these sort of spot translations. What a beautiful and appropriate song.

Mary's killing it!

And there were a couple cute exchanges between Fred and Maxima.
