Crown Prince Frederik & Crown Princess Mary's Visit to Canada: September 17-19, 2014

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
According to a Danish magazine, they stayed the first night at the Governor General's guest house.

Thanks for the correction, Nordic! Yes, lucky them. I'm sure staying at Rideau Hall would have been even nicer than staying at the Chatêau Laurier.

thank you for sharing. what a great cause. I did not know how involve Frederik was to this
"Prince Frederik has long been an ambassador for electric hockey. A special fund collected from some of the proceeds of a special coin released on the Prince’s 18th birthday helped to get the sport going in Denmark, where it is now quite popular. There are also some 50 club teams spread among the Nordic nations." :flowers:

I wonder why there is such a limited press coverage of royal visits, especially secondary BRF visits.
It's not my impression that the Canadians are particularly repuplican.
Is it because the "media-elite/opinion-elite" think it's beneath them to cover such anacronistic and, even worse, popular institutions as royalty?

I wouldn't read too much into it. From the North American perspective, European royals aren't exactly big news, it's as simple as that. The only time we see live coverage of royal events is when Queen Elizabeth or other senior members (eg. William/Kate. The late Queen Mother was also immensely popular) of her family visit. Also, like I said before, other more important national and international news stories have been occupying the headlines.

:previous: I think your description was fine. :)
Thanks, now I'll know what to look for.

I presume it's the Mounties rather than regional police who provide security for foreign VIP's?

It's funny, protection officers look the same all over the world. Presumably they all have the same stylist and go to the same hairdresser/barber. :p

Imagine an international convention for protection officers at a hotel. - Full of identical looking anonymous people.:cool::cool::cool:

Actually they work w/the respective security forces/units that protect the Royal/s that is visiting. The Mounties are ranked higher than the local as they are the National Police Force of Canada, but that more than anything a prestige thing when it comes to Operational matter/everyday stuff. Something like this though, they would would be in a type of helping the visiting Security w/everything and working hand in hand w/them.

I wish my cousin Lance was here. He retired as the head of the section of the Toronto RCMP that provides Security for everything from a Mayoral event to the Film Festival to Royal Visits to the Championship Celebrations for the Blue Jays 1993 World Series win and the Stories he's can tell...The last time he was here w/his Mom, I kind of pestered him about his various Royal Tour experiences and also the World Series win to the point Mom said he'd more than likely never visit again. :D. Anyway, he'd know far more about all of that than I certainly do.

I think I have that right up there, but of course...Maybe if you go to the Mounties website, there might be a place or E mail address where you could ask your Question. Worth a shot. :)

The chef Mary cook dessert with also made the food at the official dinner last night. If I'm not completely deaf it sounds like he tells about a husband who wouldn't eat the salad last night and Mary exclaims: Who, mine? ;)

I would not be surprised if they decide to spend a private weekend in Toronto and area i.e. Niagara Falls, the wine region around St. Catharines or even go north towards Muskoka, where they might have friends who have a cottage and who would host a visit to view the fall colours that will have started in that part of the province. I also must publicly apologize to other members of the board; although I live in Toronto and am a 15 minute bike ride away from the Bell Lightbox, I did not go to view the red carpet event last night on King Street. I feel doubly guilty thanks to fellow forum members who posted the BB video that showed the two confused looking fellow Torontonians who stood watching the royal couple leave the building:bang:There could have been at least three people there and I could have told you about what happened, but I decided against going out on a Friday night after a very long and tiring week. I do apologize but promise to report any local media coverage or lack thereof in a subsequent post. Mea culpa :bang:
p.s. I see that a fellow board member has already posted a picture of CP Frederik that was published in today's Toronto Star. For those interested (this is you, Muhler!), the Star is Canada's largest circulation newspaper so that the visit has definitely hit the Big Time! The section on real estate, in which the prince was featured, is always one of the most widely read as the average price of a house in Toronto is now approaching 1 million dollars; the real estate boom/bubble here shows no signs (yet) of bursting!

Some really nice videos and pictures from the visit.
It would be nice to get some pictures of them on their time off's to know where they went and what they sew.

I tried to see them while they were here, but just couldn't make it because I wasn't feeling well. So bummed about that. I just love them. They seem so down to earth and they're one of those couples that I genuinely believe would be together even if they were just normal citizens. :)

Hi Marfre!

Yes, Rideau Hall is the official residence of the Governor General. When our own Royal Family (i.e. Queen Elizabeth and her family) are visiting Ottawa they usually stay at Rideau Hall. It's a beautiful place and the Governor General takes the attitude that it belongs to all Canadians, so they will often have free concerts, movies, skating parties, etc. on the grounds. The grounds are usually always open for a stroll during the day and tours are available of much of the house, except for the very private areas where the GG and his wife actually live.

Hi Squidgy

Thanks for your reply and link. It certainly looks a beautiful place where you could spend time and I love how the grounds are open for the free events and that all can attend.

Lovely couple. There are so many great photos from the visit, the third posted here is one of my favourites, a really happy pic.

You're welcome, Marfre!

The Daily Mail has another article on the tour commenting about Mary's "racy" snakeskin shoes breaking with royal tradition. Hasn't she been wearing these shoes (or at least a very similar version of them) for years? I guess they are just wanting to do an article on Mary, so had to find some angle to try to grab people's attention. (Not that I mind, as it's always a treat to see an English-language article on Mary!)

Yes she has been wearing them for some years now. It's a typical article by the dailymail :whistling:

Thanks Polyesco! Nice to see some more pictures from the movie screening.

Is it my imagination, or has this trip been more 'low-key' than usual? Frederik looks tired, and Mary is dressed in somber colors. These trips must be very tiring, so I hope they got some rest over the weekend. They'll surely be glad to get home to Denmark after a day in New York.

It was a trade-center visit, very packed for 3 days. but for me they were on top form. :flowers:

With smiles and attention to their hosts
But im sure they are glad to be back in DK soon.

A nice summary of some of the highlights of the trip, Polyesco!

I thought they did a great job too, from what I saw both in person (I was one of the "fans" at the National War Memorial Service), and through pictures. Seeing them visit NYC time after time, it was a real pleasure to have them finally come to Canada. At least a few more Canadians are now more aware of them (and Denmark).

I know the trip was work for F&M, but I hope they left with at least a few memories of some enjoyable moments in Canada.

And a few more pictures ... the official site of the Danish RF has a great gallery from the visit Officielt besøg i Canada - Kongehuset

:previous:thank you for posting that amusing blog describing the movie premiere. Didn't see then drinking any beer?

Genuinely believe that too. Makes me wanna post these pictures from their last day in Toronto:

Thanks for the many pics.:flowers:

Especially to Polyesco and Roskilde for their ceaseless work in digging up materia for us. It is very much appreciated. :flowers:

It becomes them to be on the job together. They look good together and and that means they have a positive radiance about them, which again rubs off on what they do and attend.
