Even now, elements of her gown, veil, and tiara are seen in almost every wedding. All girls remember Diana and the sheer magnitude and romance of that day and they want to emulate it. It totally suited the event. And, looking at the pictures I see a happy couple. There are photos where Charles is looking at Diana when she is looking elsewhere and the only word to describe his expression is happy. They had a very good start--

I agree with you. For me, she was the fairtale princess.

To each his own! I thought it was ghastly over the top! Except the music! Even though some might say three orchestras is, indeed, "over the top", the music for this wedding was just phenomenal. It was actually, as you say in describing the whole event, "perfect." The music was enough to bring me to tears by itself, take away everything else.

Well it was the future king getting married so all the pomp and ceremony was to be expected.

I clearly remember thiis wedding as well - I was 9 years old and to me it was the perfect fairytale brought to life. I thought Diana's gown was the ultimate - poufs, ruffles, sparkle, that looong train, a couple of bows. And the scale of the wedding, everything seemed larger than life and perfect for the occasion.

Now I look at it and the dress is way too much. And of all days for Diana's hair to flop, it happened at her wedding! But I still think the over the top-ness of the day was fitting. CasraghiTrio, some of the music moves me to tears too.

There is such hope and happiness visible in these photos, I really hope they were really feeling that way.

Just Married Sign

Hi as this is my first post I thought I would share the following; I have been looking at these Royal Wedding items, sadly can't afford them, but you may well be interested as there are some rare bits and pieces at this site. One is the hand written "Just Married" sign that hung on the carriage. DIANA ROYAL WEDDING - SpecialistAuctions.com - moderated specialist & collectors online auctions

The other nice but equally expensive piece is this gold gift set

I remember reading somewhere (or perhaps it was one of the people close to her who said it in a television programme, not sure), that Diana felt like "a lamb on its way to the slaughter house" when she walked up the aisle.
I also remember, in the same way, that she had doubts whether to go through with the wedding (and even asked Camilla Parker Bowles for advices). She advised her to go through with it and the other people Diana told about her doubts apparently said that she had no choice but to go through with it, as "her face was already printed on towels and coffee cups and sorts."
It's kind of strange to think that, at one point, Diana and Camilla were friends (of some sort).

Veil over the tiara

I don't know if this has ever been asked but how does the veil get lifted above the tiara without taking off the tiara.I know Diana did it but I don't know how.
Thanks!

I believe that after they said their vows the veil was cut.

I don't know about it being cut. But they went into a room just off the alter to sign the "book" and they were in there for a long time. It doesn't take that long to alter when you have hair and makeup attending you.

I'm pretty sure the veil was not cut. It seems to me that in many regular weddings the veil is just folded back, but they must have removed her tiara and put the veil folded back under it. Just a guess.

That is a very interesting auction site! I wish I could have found out how much that sign went for.
