Big pouffy sleeves indeed! But other than the sleeves which Astrid could probably take off with and fly to her honeymoon destination personally, I think she looked lovely. The flowers in her hair were a nice touch. But why no tiara? Was that a personal choice?

Yes, I think so. Her mother, (then) princess Paola had a few smaller tiara's, and Astrid now wears a tiara from her in laws, so I think if she wanted one, she surely would have worn one. (Maybe Fabiola would have lent her one, they have always been very close).

Astrid always liked to keep things more simple, natural.

I agree the flowers looked nice on her. Fresh and sweet.

She looked rather lovely but the sleeves!they were just hideous!bigger is not always better,How old were her siblings when she married?i suppose Phillipe was older than her at the time?

Ah, the 80's. How thankful I am to not have had to endure those moments. I don't think that I have ever seen sleeves that poofy! Yikes, they just about swallow her whole!

I like how Astrid wore flowers in her hair instead of a tiara. Very different. In these wedding photos Astrid really looks like Paola, especially around the eyes. She really is very pretty.

To think that Astrid's dress was probably in high fashion at the time and that likely after her wedding the dress was copied throughout Belgium and neighbouring countries! :p And now we look at it in wonder and laugh at the puffy sleeves!

I just think of all the weddings at which I was a flower girl during the 80s. All the brides had big, heavily beaded dresses, puffy sleeves and bows and ribbons galore. I think I used to look at those dresses with envy! Glad a more minimalist approach to bridal gowns is favoured now!

The dress would look quite nice, had they just used a tad less fabric around the arms. If the puffy sleeves had been reduced, then the dress would have looked like it was from earlier times.

Royal weddings are really quite the way to set new trends in how wedding dresses are supposed to look. Sadly, that's not a good thing at all occasions.

Astrid's gown was designed by Belgian couturier Louis Mies. It had a train of 5 meters. She wore no tiara but flowers in her hair. The ancient veil she wore, once belonged to her Italian great-grandmother. Paola also wore it at her wedding, just like Mathilde and Claire later on.

Astrid and her father, prince Albert of Belgium.

4. Archduke Lorenz and his mother

Don't worry about it, but you're welcome.:)

Lorenz was married with 28 years... he born on december 1955 and they married on september 1984. So they married at Saint Michel et Gudule Cathedral or at Eglise de Notre Dame des Victoires du Sablon... because when I went to Brussels I visited de Cathedral and they had a kind of "important events" photo recopilation but I didn't saw anything about Astrid and Lorenz...
