I really like the style of Mabel's dress (the boat neck is so pretty), but the bows ruined it for me. It would have looked better if they were kept off altogether, or at least limited to just to bodice. Otherwise, I think their wedding looked really nive!

I like the color of her attendants' dresses and the little black jackets.
The ensemble wasn't so effective on the boys, though especially the big... bows. :) |

I never got a look at her train before, and had NO CLUE there were those big bows hanging on it. Looks like a mess.

Misshelen, the pictures you've just posted confirm to me that--bar the larger bows on the train--- Mabel's outfit was absolutely exquisite, especially the incredible fabric (what was it by the way) as well as the cut. If you were willing to overlook a bow or two (or three, or four:), she just looked amazing.
I have to say I found Friso's demenour a bit aloof, cold, distant. But perhaps he was just uncomfortable with being in the limelight like that. Even so, these pictures also give me the uncomfortable hunch that Mabel somehow pushed herself into getting this carmudgeon-like man to marry her. He seemed a reluctant participant on his wedding day, and hardly the happy and lucky groom. But then again, perhaps that's common? Anyways to me, he seems the kind of person who, if blessed with a less ambitious partner or family, would have been perfectly happy to just cohabitate with his love and never make the walk down the isle. Not knowing the guy, I could be really wrong of course. But just the fact that when Mabel came out of the car at the palace, instead of giving her a hand, he left that to one of her bridesmaids, and instead, was being all smiles to one of the male palace guards....call me catty but if he wants to squelch those still persistant rumors he's gay, he should, at least publicly, be a bit more supportive of her. Oh well let's hope he truly loves her. She on the other hand certainly seems to genuinely enjoy <his> company. |

Wow, miss Helen, you've been busy!! Thanks for reposting all these pictures!
Everytime I see Mabel's dress I think: 'Hmmm, it would have been a wonderful dress if it wasn't for these ugly bows!' But then again, it's Mabel and she is just a bit different, I guess. Without Mabel (or Laurentien and her very fashionable outfits) we would have much less to discuss here in Holland about royal fashion. ![]() |
