I don't think the top of Mabel's dress was that bad, but that train was just terrible. I don't know what she was thinking. But, she has a lot to live up to with Maxima and Laurentein as her sisters-in-law. They are both very stylish.

I thought both Maxima and Laurentein looked absolutely beautiful. I can't believe Laurentein just had a baby! She looks wonderful!

I wish Johan Friso and Mabel many years of happiness. :flower:
Yeah. When I saw the couple walking down the aisle on CNN, I couldn't really make out what the gown was like. Overall, I thought she looked very pretty. Alexandra's pictures showed the details and oh my! there are certainly a lot of bows on her gown :p It's a different look from the classic looks of Maxima and Laurentein's gowns, but it's a good different look. I don't think I'd be able to pull it off since I'm not as tiny as she is  but it works well for her. :flower:

Well, the wedding dress has been disected, and I have nothing further to add there...

But didn't King Harald look elegant? I don't think I've seen him in a tux like that before. Plenty of uniforms, suits and other clothes, but *that* was one he looked very elegant in. And he looks relatively healthy and seems like he's enjoying himself. It's good to see him out and about again.

Really, all we do is discuss what the ladies wear... why not the men ? Some of them do dress up...

I am not BOWled over by the beauty of this gown, but she sure made out in the jewels department. The Queen must really like her.

She looks just a little scary there. . .

well, if you call lying to the Dutch govt something that a highly educated person would do!

How lucky queen Beatrix, she has 3 highly educated and independent daughter in laws.

i agree, i dont consider the third addition incredibly vituous.

however, from a purely education and achievement standard, beatrix did do well, all three daughters in law are very well educated and did something in their lives before they entered the royal house.

think of the poor norwegian couple: a pretty but uneducated mette-marit (the things she achieved are taking drugs and hopping at as many parties as possible, catching haakon was the best she did), ari behn is different, but i wonder how famous he'd be without the royal connection.

the danish didnt do so well: alexandra was very independent and successful in her own right, but mary...well, i wrote my share on her. same as mette, very sweet and perfect for the role (think of sweet but silly diana...), but not much behind her forhead, i suggest.

and imagine: if victoria marries her fitness trainer: good luck to the swedish reigning couple

Oh gosh, the dress is really hideous. And the train is really like a clown suit, fit for a circus.

Strange...I used to think Mabel is very pretty...but on her wedding day, she looked really ...erm... :yuk:

I have a question and pardon me for looking at the ladies' apparel again :p I noticed that the brims on the hats are somewhat on the wide side. I've notice at some other royal weddings that the ladies' hat brims are very wide. Is that just a style or some sort thing that women of royalty do?

Also, what dictates the dress at a royal wedding? At Johan and Mabel's everyone is dressed as I would for a wedding (except for the hat, I don't like wearing hats  ) While at others, the women wear gowns and tiaras, and the men are in tails. Is it the time of day of the wedding or the royal status of the couple being married?

I think that the dress code, whether it is suits or gowns and tiaras depends on the time of the wedding, just as it does for non-royals! ;) Johan Friso and Mabel had a morning ceremony with festivities going on into the early afternoon for example, in which it would be skirts, jackets and hats for the ladies and a morning suit/suit for men.

In the case of the two recent Norwegian weddings (Haakon and Mette-Marit, and Martha Louise and Ari) in which the ceremonies took place in the late afternoon/early evening, with festivities going on into night time, ball gowns and tiaras for the ladies, and tuxes for men would be standard.

Thanks! :p

I wasn't able to watch the wedding live so I have looked different places on the internet to watch the whole wedding. So far all I have found are a few little fragment clips, but not one or two video clips that show the entire wedding from beginning to end. I was able to watch the other weddings on the web after they took place. I wish I could see this one as well. Does anyone know of anything? I have combed throught the NOS site and I haven't found much. I was very surprised.

congratulations Mabel and Johan Friso

Mabel's wedding dress very very interesting

Very nice wedding pictures.

HM Queen Beatrix I of the Netherlands hat is simply fantastic, very very stylish; very typical in HM.

 I didn't realize that a hat that looks like a bird's nest was so fashionable?! Call me crazy, but Queen Beatrix looks ridiculous! As for Laurentian (sp?) there are no words :woot: ! [/b][/quote]
Of course Queen Beatrix's hat is fashionable. HM is known to have such beautiful and stylish hats... This hat proves this...
