Nor any women, as far as I can tell.

There won't be any women...They don't usually attend these sort of cermonies...
Yes, I know. I was just being cynical. I'm from a culture where the sexes are not socially segregated, so it's the most striking aspect of the photos for me.

Crowned heads arrive in Jordan for crown prince's wedding

Wed May 26, 1:33 PM ET Add Mideast - AFP to My Yahoo!

AMMAN (AFP) - Several crowned heads and other distinguished guests arrived in the Jordanian capital to attend the wedding celebration the following day of Crown Prince Hamza bin Hussein.

The 24-year-old heir to the throne is the half-brother of King Abdullah II and the son of the late King Hussein and Queen Noor, formerly Lisa Halabi, an American of Lebanese origin.

He was engaged last August to Princess Noor, the daughter of Prince Assem bin Nayef, a cousin of King Hussein.

Among the first to arrive were Spain's Queen Sophia, official Petra news agency reported.

Reports from Madrid said Crown Prince Felipe and his new bride, former journalist Letizia Ortiz, also flew to Jordan Wednesday after a three-day mini-honeymoon in northern Spain.

Farah Diba, the widow of the late shah of Iran also arrived Wednesday and was received by Prince Hamza's half-brother, Prince Faisal, who is commander in chief of the air force, Petra said.

Prince Andrew, son of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II (news - web sites) was also among the royalty flew in for the celebration, which will be held in the Zahran Palace, in west Amman, the agency said.

Brunei's Crown Prince Muhtadee Billah Bolkiah, who is due to marry in September, arrived Monday.

The court has declined to provide the press with an advance list of the guests due to attend the celebration, but sources close to the palace said invitations had been sent to several Arab and Western dignitaries.

Zahran Palace, the former residence of King Hussein's late mother, has been spruced up for the event, and workers were still putting the finishing touches Wednesday afternoon.

Jordanian security forces fanned across Amman, and the capital was decked with Jordanian flags.

Earlier in the day King Abdullah hosted an all-male lunch for Prince Hamza that brought together royal family members, senior government leaders, tribal chiefs as well as political figures and Arab diplomats.

Prince Hamza is the 43rd direct descendant of the Prophet Mohammad.

King Abdullah officially named him crown prince February 7, 1999 on the death of their father.

Like all other members of the Jordanian royal family he attended the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst in Britain, graduating in 1999 as a commissioned officer in the Jordan Arab Army.

He and Princess Noor, 22, are currently studying in the United States and the palace had said the couple would return there to continue their studies after the wedding.

From Petra:

Amman/ May 26/ (Petra)-- In celebration of Their Royal Highnesses
Crown Prince Hamzah bin Al Hussein and Princess Noor Hamzah's marriage,
His Majesty King Abdullah II Wednesday held a luncheon banquet at the
Royal Court.
The banquet was attended members of the Royal Family, senior officials,
dignitaries, representatives of private organizations, members of diplomatic
corps and tribal leaders.
King Abdullah will also hold an officials ceremony celebrating
the royal wedding on Thursday at Zahran Palace. The ceremony will be
attended by a number of kings, princes and senior officials from Arab,
Moslem and friendly countries, who have been invited to attend the wedding
ceremony.
The ceremony includes a wedding parade starting from the Royal
Court passing through Al Istiqlal Street to Queen Nor Al Hussein Street
then to the 4th Circle intersection and down to Zahran Palace where the
main ceremony.
Injadat/ Petra

According to Petra, here's a list of guests who have arrived for the wedding...

Queen Sofia of Spain and her sister Irene
Farah Pahlavi
Andrew, Prince of York
Prince Salman, Emir of Riyadh
Sheikh Saleh Kamel, Board Chairman of Dallat Al Barakah and
the Arab Media Company

That's all that Petra has. I'm not sure who else was invited or who will be attending.

Is it just me or does Hashim look a lot like Ali on the last pic...it's like his cheeks remind me of Ali, a Lil chubby

So there will be a parade! Yeah! Although, I must ask, if no one really knows about the wedding in Jordan, who will fill the streets?

I don't think it's going to be on television. The Jordanian television stations haven't announced anything about it at all! :(

Maybe 'parade' is a fancy dancy way of saying they are closing all the streets to get everyone there on time and if you want to show up and wave-well, good on you!!

This is all too weird! They're having a parade but nothing's been announced about it on television. Maybe they're doing that for security reasons.

I hope they they have it on tv. I got someone to tape it for me. :woot:

I love this!

why aren't there any pictures of the guests' arrival?
I would've thought that atleast the Jordanian media would've covered it.

Prince ANdrew is the DUke of York. Not Prince of York.

For someone who lost their father to cancer, it seems a little irresponsible to be giving away cigarette cases as wedding presents.

My mistake. Thanks :flower:

I can't see Ali at the banquet, was he there- also, Ali was alone at the Indipendence Day, no wife, I have a feeling something is wrong there ,in that wed, not at all as Hamzah and his wife who look so much in love.

Noor Hamzah sure is a pretty little thing, isn't she?

Considering that the Jordanian Royal Family has received credible threats in the past from Al-Queda, I think the low key wedding is a very good idea, especially with all the high profile guests.

On a side note, has anyone else noticed that Hashim has only been photgraphed lately wearing traditional dress - at the luncheon, Haya's wedding, etc.

Is he more traditional than his brothers?

Jordan Times:

"By Tradition
The festivities in celebration of HRH Crown Prince Hamzah's marriage to HRH Princess Noor began yesterday with probably one of Jordan's biggest ever gathering over the country's most popular meal — mansaf. Around 4,000 guests, all men (although some women were invited) descended on the grounds of the Royal Hashemite Court. Each and every one of them was greeted by Their Royal Highnesses Prince Faisal, Prince Hamzah and Prince Hashem, who were later joined by Prince Raad Ben Zeid, Prince Ghazi Ben Mohammad and father of the bride, Sharif Assem Ben Nayef. The guests, who came from all walks of life, were escorted to seats in flag emblazoned bedouin tents. His Majesty King Abdullah saluted the crowd who were then invited to mansaf, followed by the traditional dessert of kanafeh."

why was it mostly men? I would have thought the opposite, or at least a balance of the two.
