The Aqaba thing is MUCH more lavish than yesterday's event. Do you think that is the plan? To portray a very subdude image in public and then live it up privately?

Stunning Backdrops To Spring's Royal Nuptials

A rose garden attached to the Zahran Palace in Amman was the setting for the official celebration of Crown Prince Hamzah's wedding to Princess Noor. The couple entertained their guests in a lavish evening reception on May 27 followed by a gala dinner the Jordanian capital the next evening.

Amman offers a fascinating blend of the new and the historic, with ancient ruins juxtaposed with modern architecture. The city is also frequently used as a base for visitors keen to explore Jordan's other treasures. Thirty miles south of Amman is Medaba, with its famous array of Byzantine-era mosaic floors. While north of Amman is the ruined city of Jerash, which includes buildings from the Byzantine and early Muslim periods, and the 12th-century Ajloun castle, which provides stunning views of the hilly surroundings.

The country's most famous tourism spot is, of course, the magnificent ancient city of Petra, carved out of towering pink cliffs three hours south of Amman. A UNESCO world heritage site which was used in the final sequence of Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade, Petra is a rich mix of ancient tombs, temples, streets and baths. Other must-see spots are the Wadi Rum desert region where Lawrence Of Arabia was filmed, and the Siq narrow gorge, bordered by dramatic 150-metre-high cliffs.

Over 2,000 guests, including Prince Andrew, Spanish Crown Prince Felipe and his new bride Princess Letizia, attended a lavish celebration in Amman on May 27 to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Hamzah of Jordan

I was under the impression  that there was going to be a banquet today.  Did it happen and no pictures were taken or is it being held tomorrow?

I think that for security reasons it is easier to have a vibrant party in aqaba, as the palace in aqaba is in a compound, whereas zahran palace is in the middle of amman. plus the aqaba party is a party rather than a reception, no need to invite all the old sheikhs etc just the beautiful people, and it certainly doesn't look private as it looks like half of amman is there.

P. Noor is very pretty. Possibly the prettiest woman in the family. And she looks radiant! Good for her!

I don't know about the prettiest, but she is pretty. She has plenty of competition from her cousins/sister-in-laws...how does that work?

P.Noor is very average looking, kind of sweet...Hamzah is average too...

Also, in Aqaba, the JRF is about as far away from the main population center as they can get and still be in Jordan, so any excess is less observable.

Congratulations to the newlyweds! Wish them all the luck in life.

:innocent: :flowers:

I was just wondering, weren't there official photos like only the newly married couple without the guests?

can someone PLEASE post photos of Prince hamzah and noor when they visited London.. it was in february i think???
thanksss

I have a question about wedding protocol. I noticed in the photos of the family, KA and QR stand next to CP Hamzah and P Noor, while QN, the mother of the groom, stands further away from her son than either KA and QR. Is this the way it's done in Jordan? The reason I'm asking is because it looks disrespectful to QN to me. In my country, it's the immediate family's show to run, with half brothers and sister's in law taking a back seat to immediate nuclear family members. So I'm curious about this. Is it a dis to QN, or am I just learning something new about Jordanian culture?

Thanks.

Iran complains to Jordan over wedding invite for ousted royals

Sun May 30, 9:10 AM ET Add Mideast - AFP to My Yahoo!

TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran has lodged an official complaint with Jordan after Farah Diba, the widow of the ousted Iranian shah, was invited to the wedding of Crown Prince Hamza bin Hussein to his distant cousin, Princess Noor, the Iranian foreign ministry said.

AFP/File Photo

"The foreign ministry has summoned the Jordanian charge d'affaires to protest this invitation. It was an unjustifiable gesture. There were people invited who have no status in their own country," foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters.

He said the Jordanian diplomat, Nayef al-Zidan, was hauled in for a moan on Saturday, and Asefi also warned that the invitation of Farah Diba, the widow of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, "will have repercussions on the relations between our two countries."

The spokesman gave no details on what the consequences would be.

The widow of the shah, ousted by Iran's Islamic revolution in 1979, was among 2,500 guests -- who also included a number of European royals -- at a garden party in Amman Thursday.

Iran's complaint comes after the invitation of both Farah Diba and her son to the marriage a week ago of Spain's Crown Prince Felipe de Bourbon and former television news presenter Letizia Ortiz sparked a mini-crisis between Tehran and Madrid.

In protest, Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi delayed a visit to Spain for talks with Spanish leaders by a day.

The widow of the ex-shah, who is 66, and her son now live in exile in France and the United States. In memoires published several months ago, Farah Diba did not hide her desire to one day return to Iran, while her son continues to lay claim to the throne.

Although the pair have in the past been frequent features on international royal guest lists, this is the first time Iran's clerical rulers have complained so vigorously.

The festivities in celebration of HRH Crown Prince Hamzah's marriage to HRH Princess Noor began today afternoon with probably one of Jordan's biggest ever gathering over the country's most popular meal — mansaf. Around 4,000 guests, all men descended on the grounds of the Royal Hashemite Court. Each and every one of them was greeted by Their Royal Highnesses Prince Faisal, Crown Prince Hamzah and Prince Hashem, who were later joined by Prince Raad Ben Zeid, Prince Ghazi Ben Mohammad and father of the bride, Prince Assem Ben Nayef. The guests, who came from all walks of life, were escorted to seats in flag emblazoned bedouin tents. His Majesty King Abdullah saluted the crowd who were then invited to mansaf, followed by the traditional dessert of kanafeh.

I love kanafeh!!! :woot:

His Majesty King Abdullah hosted today evening a grand reception in celebration of the marriage of Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Hamzah and Princess Noor Hamzah.

Around 2,500 guests, including royal families from Europe and the Arab world, gathered for the garden party held at Zahran Palace in Jabal Amman to await the arrival of the Royal couple.

Prince Hamzah and Princess Noor set off in a motorcade from the Royal Court to Zahran Palace. Hundreds lined the streets cheering as the couple were driven to the Zahran Palace in a 1961 Lincoln Continental which belonged to His Majesty the late King Hussein. The car was used in official and private events including many Royal family weddings. It also served to carry His Majesty King Abdullah II on his coronation day.

Women wearing traditional embroidered bedouin dresses ululated and children waved flags, as Jordan Television aired parts of the procession and the evening reception live.

Prince Hamzah, a captain in the Jordan Armed Forces, was in military uniform, his head covered in the traditional red keffieh, while Princess Noor wore a white lace dress, and a white lace mantilla covered her head.

Their Majesties King Abdullah, Queen Rania and Queen Noor, Prince Hamzah, Princess Noor, HRH Prince Assem Ben Nayef and Princess Fairouzah received congratulations in a reception room inside Zahran Palace.

The Jordan Armed Forces orchestra offered a colourful repertoire which complemented the bountiful garlands of roses hanging from garden pillars and rose petals floating in a pond.

The guest list included Queen Fabiola of Belgium, Spain's Queen Sophia, Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Sylvia, Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah and his son Crown Prince Muhtadee Billah Bolkiah. It also included Spain's Crown Prince Felipe and his new bride Princess Letizia, Norway's Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit, Crown Prince Willem-Alexander of Holland, Swedish Crown Princess Victoria, Bahraini Crown Prince Salman Ben Hamad Al Khalifa, Britain's Prince Andrew and Prince of Riyadh Salman Ben Abdel Aziz.

Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania held a dinner banquet at the Royal Palace in Aqaba today evening in celebration of HRH Crown Prince Hamzah's marriage to HRH Princess Noor Hamzah.

Kings, Presidents and Princes representing several Arab, Muslim and friendly countries were included in the guest list along with Jordan's Royal Family members and prominent local, Arab and international figures as well as senior state officials.

The J Satellite Channel did broadcast the reception from hours starting at 6pm Jordan time, I could also watch Hamzah as a kid of 1 and as a teen, I can say the whole ceremony was touching. I loved it.

I have a question, too- why was Ali not in the group photos ? And , where was Princess Raiyah, I could not see her live nor in the pics, that's very odd.

In the one of the group photos I saw, Ali is standing next to his fiance'. She is wearing a red dress. Go look again.

Since this same topic was disabled i thought i'd start a new one. The song is by Majda Elroumi. King hussein used to like her very much, the JRF in general all liked her and she's been singing songs for them for YEARS now. i don't actually know what the song is called but it is very nice... any ideas anyone?

i will move this to the wedding thread.. at the wedding forum

Belated congratulations to the happy couple and they do look happy :p

As always Dennism provides some amazing photos of the events. I love Princess Noor's gown, especially the waistline of the dress. I think her shoes are particularly interesting. Can anyone tell me what they are because they appear to be platforms of some kind. Prince Hamzeh is a good looking young man.

CP Letizia looked great in her green dress and, to me, looked more like herself here than she did at her own wedding. CP Felipe looked handsome and he towerd over Prince Hamzeh in one of the photos. I did not realize from the other photos that Prince Hamzeh was diminutive in stature :p

Queen Raina looked amazing in her gown. She is a beautiful woman.

In one of the photos, Marie Chantal is described as the woman in a dark green dress with some black lace top or overlay bowing to one of the Jordanian royals. It doesn't look like her to me because she doesn't look pregnant :p Perhaps it's just the angle of the camera.

Queen Noor's gown is pretty be seems to be somewhat understated. Is that on purpose  ?

She sang at the Jarash Festival quite a few times. I have a video tape of one of her concerts there. I think that King Hussein liked her and Fairouz too. There must be something about the Lebanese! ;) :p B)

I'm not a huge fan of Majda-Al-Roumy I hadn't heard that song before. I thought the lyrics were a bit corny.
