Better picture of the train
The train is just hideous. The detailing on the dress is nice, but why take the time to do such detailing and then make a train that completely takes away from the dress? Any designer with any sense would know better than that. Maybe really wanted it that way, but it was awful. You just don't pair too such very detailed things together. The dress was okay and Mabel seemed to wear it well, but the dress and the train together really came off as being a bit too decorated and tacky.

Mabel's sister (name?) signs the register

her name is Nicoline

:flower:
Thanks for the info Tina. I was wondering her name as well. Now, she was absolutely divine in lilac. Loved the hat! ;) :woot:

I was wondering why this topic is in this section instead of in the 'Something royal, blue, ...' section. Isn't that were weddings belong?

It will probably be moved later, but since it's current news, it's easier to find if it's up here :)

If you look beyond all the bows, it is not that ugly, the cut is nice, BUT the bows are really there!
I agree... the dress itself is not that hideous, but the train is. If she lost the train, the dress wouldn't look half bad..

i think the wedding had some fantastic dresses:

to start with mabel's choice: in contrast to everybody else i actually found the dress quite amusing and beautiful. its something different, also the veil, very funny, i think, suited the occasion, which for some reason really didnt become as solemn as other royal weddings.

then: mabel's sister nicoline: very beautiful herself but her outfit was stunning. here in purple, laurentin in green, also very nice, very colourful

Hassan Bin Talal and Sarvath El Hassan of Jordan

Is it just me or did Prince El Hassan and Princess Sarvath bring their children with them. Also, is the new Princess Rym Ali visible in the background?
I don't know if the people behind them are their children, but I definitely don't recognize any of them to be Rym.

queen beatrix had a lovely dress, but the result was slighly unproprtioned: too short arms, the lady looked actually rather dwarfted. anyway: great colour

maximas skirt: read somewhere that the skirt ruined the outfit: true, wasnt the greatest part about her appearance. also: slightly over the knee suits here so much better

very nice: laurentien, great colour, one sees it not often enough

very nice bridesmaids dresses, i think, also by v&r? i thought the colourscheme blue and white and black was very well chosen

mabel and the bows

how can someone not like mabel's dress??

queen beatrix

I think Mabel's dress would have looked much better if the detailing was limited to the bodice, leaving the skirt and train plain. The cut of it suited her well though. I thought Maxima's jacket was beautiful. :flower:

To be honest with all of you, despite her dress being somewhat unconventional (unlike some of the women who in my opinion need to ditch the mega & very ugly hats...now that is tacky), I think she looks quite beautiful and obviously extremely happy.

I wish them all the best; obviously love does conquer all, and I admire any man who gives up something so big (ala his place in line to the throne) to marry the women he loves! Now that says a lot about a person!

I liked the dress. The detailing using the bows was really different. I agree with the poster who also said that the dress itself really did suit Mabel. It was a different type of gown in its design, but it didn't upstage Mabel. The only problem that I have with the gown itself is that I would have preferred that the detailing not have become larger as it progressed further down to the skirt. I noticed that the bows surrounding the base of the skirt were larger than the others and I think that had all of the detailing remained small and the same size, it would have been much nicer. Of course as I said before, the train was just a no. Simple would have been much better.

I think Queen Beatrix has the look of a proud mother. But I also think that she is holding back a laugh because she can't stand the sight of that wedding dress!

but I dont like her dresses! that not my favourites! i love Maxima's dresses is so my favourites Maxima's training is so famous! but i look her training its bow but i dont like on bow in their training no!

Very nice wedding pictures.

HM Queen Beatrix I of the Netherlands hat is simply fantastic, very very stylish; very typical in HM.

It's a shame the wedding didn't have been attended by other royals, at least from the other Benelux Royal Houses: Belgium and Luxembourg.

One question: Did any member from the Royal House of Bahrain attended the wedding?

 I didn't realize that a hat that looks like a bird's nest was so fashionable?! Call me crazy, but Queen Beatrix looks ridiculous! As for Laurentian (sp?) there are no words :woot: !

I was sitting here looking at pictures trying to decide what Mabel's dress reminded me of. A wedding cake. But, I must admit, I liked the bows on the front of the dress, she just got a little carried away with it all. Now the bows on the train, that's a different story. The important thing is, it's her wedding and if she has a thing for bows, I say more power to you!

She and J-F looked so happy, and their faces radiated. They really look like a couple in love. Congrats to them! I was shockingly suprised to see Prince Bernhard at the wedding. He must be feeling better.

the three best-dressed ladies, i think

What about fashion commentary for the other guests? There has been a lot of talk about Mabel's wedding dress but what about the fashions worn by the guests?

For all those who have said that Mabel's sister Nicoline looked lovely, I totally agree. The colour and cut of the dress was lovely. I especially thought that the colour was not only young and spring-like, but very fitting with Nicoline's fair skin and light blonde hair. I didn't even mind the oversized hat -- it didn't overwhelm her face as much as large hats can on some people.

I really liked Maxima's jacket. The cut was gorgeous and simple, with nice detailing around the edge. I wish she had been more colourful, however. Maybe that jacket in a soft pink or light blue?

I think Laurentien looks pretty great for someone who gave birth less than a month ago. Her colour choice was nice, fresh and spring-like (I am all about spring colours! :p ) But I abhorred the cut of the sleeves on her jacet. The fringe around the eding of the jacket and sleeves was nice, but the flared/cut out sleeves ruined an otherwise nice look.

A bit indifferent at the moment to what Marilene wore. The steel gray colour I am not such a fan of, but the nearly fuschia hat might've saved the outfit for me.

Absolutely loved Annette's very detailed gold and copper-coloured jacket. It really dressed up her plain black dress. I hope I look as radiant and beaming as this when I'm 7-8 months pregnant!

Beatrix's jacket was a very different look for her, but I did like it. Adored the colour. Even the hat I liked; I thought it was a nice, whimsical touch.

I also liked Mabel's mother's outfit, too. Of course the colour! But the high upturned collar and two-toned detailing on the flipped, over sized cuffs were added touches.

Princess Irene's purple metallic jacket was nice and the floral skirt feminne.

Didn't care so much for the long, long, to the ground jacket worn by Princess Christina, but I adored the colour.

Princess Margriet always looks so elegant and lady like, it's hard to come up with a complaint about her.

I liked the bright colour of Maria Caroline's suit, as well. And the cut was simple and elegant, who could go wrong?

I didn't like so much Rosario Nadals' long jarcket with the lower-waisted tie. The jacket and tie elongated her frame but the jacket seemed too big that it made her seem a bit frumpy -- which she certainly isn't from other pictures I've seen of her.

... Any other fashion critics out there?

I want to know how the guests in the back of the church were able to see over all of those huge hats! I'm not a big fan of hats, but I really liked Maxima's. I just feel sorry for the poor person stuck sitting behind her.

They probably wanted to knock those ugly hats of their heads or they may have been thinking they should have stayed at home to watch the ceremony on T.V. instead. :innocent:
