it's been a busy, hectic and stressful few days around here, so only getting to this now...
For those who have questioned the 'class' of the wedding pair, I think it shows a lack of class to harshly criticize a couple on their wedding day.
Hear, hear!
There will be plenty of time to critize them in years to come, if you want to. Give them a pass on their wedding day. And if you don't want to do that, please let us who want to share their joy and happiness do so without having to read all the negativity in this thread. Save that for another thread, another day.
Thanks to the both of you. I was prepared for some negative posts considering how some view Sofia, but Good Grief!! Talk about over the top down right venom and....Sad.
I'd love to know what Sophie and the Queens are discussing!
I know and I love the expression on Queen Margarethe's face, not to mention the way she's leaning down to Sophie. The whole thing just screams Major Dish Session Going On, So Do NOT Interrupt Us Or Else!!!
. One of my favourite pictures from Saturday.
She seemed a bit off to me throughout the whole thing, like maybe she was injured or something. She wobbled or limped a bit on the orange carpet on the way to the church. She seemed to be leaning heavily on the stone railing of the staircase while they were lining up for the large group photo. And somewhere I saw a photo that looked she was sitting down on a gold chair, with Mary and possible Frederick talking to her.
As was pointed out by another poster, Queen Margarethe suffers from rather serious back issues that have really become noticeable the last few years. While I've been lucky not to be affected w/serious back issues over the years, I do have serious foot and knee problems and walking and standing, not easy at all at times. So Her Majesty has my sympathy for what she's having to deal w/in a very public manner.
Oh my God...YES!! That tiara!! What was I thinking??
And those delicious, exquisite babies Lenore and Estelle.....
Yes...Let's talk about that gorgeous sparkling Wedding Present from Their Majesties, shall we?
. I think that was the big surprise of the Wedding IMO and what a gorgeous surprise it was too. It really is a very pretty design. Delicate, yet also substantial. A nice size that works w/her "place or status" (for lack of a better term) in the Family, as it's not too big or too small either. It also has a nice subtle splash of colour w/the Emeralds. It just really works. My only complaint, and it's the only one of how the new Princess looked that I have, is I wish she'd wore it more on an angle instead of flat like a crown. IMO it would have looked far better on an angle, but that really is a minor quibble and more how I think a Tiara should be worn than anything.
I loved how seeing Estelle coming down the aisle, Victoria needed her hanky. Such a special moment that was and she, as well as the other Bridal Party Members, looked lovely IMO. Speaking of little Swedish Princesses...
. I think I 'm going to have to start calling Leonore by the female version of what we call Prince George : Wee Miss Wiggle Worm. My Goodness at one point I think she literally went from Daddy to Mamma to Uncle Daniel to Auntie Victoria to Granny w/in a five minute time fame...LOL!! She certainly is a very busy young lady and ITA that she did seem to settle the most w/Daniel. Not for long mind you, but it happened.
For some strange reason, I'm going to try once more to inform everyone about weddings in Swedish tradition, *snip*
Thank you for that. It sounds a lot like an United Church of Canada Wedding Service.
As a church organist, I have played for more weddings than I care to remember! And I have had to deal with some unusual requests. My policy is always to let the officiating clergy have the last word, so if the clergy approved, I went along with it, sometimes reluctantly. If the tradition in Sweden is to be more liberal in the choice of music, then so be it. I have often played ''Hymn to Joy'' for the recessional so I was interested to see the clip of it.
when the soloist sang the words ''melt the clouds of sin and sadness, drive the dark of doubt away'' I thought of the controversy around the couple, and hope all that is now past. May they have a long and happy life together.
Queen Margrethe seemed to be in pain, and I wish someone had escorted her into the church instead of her having to walk in alone. Both of her sons were there, after all. But it was sweet of Frederik to escort her down the steps. No doubt we'll see more of that as time goes on.
I also had that cross my mind when I heard that part and Amen to all you said I bolded up there. As for Queen Margarethe going into the Chapel by herself, it was dependant on Rank and Protocol from what I could see. A pity, as it was sadly obvious Her Majesty was having a tough time walking on Saturday and could have truly used that extra support.
And, the ROSES! As a lifelong gardener, I wanted to smell those
I too loved those Roses. Not only did they look beyond gorgeous, but that Creamy Yellow through to Coral just looked amazing paired w/the Grey Marble of the Chapel. Easily my favourite colour scheme out of the three Swedish Royal Weddings of the last five years.
And I think I've covered everything...I think that is. One last thing....I really hope this not the last time we see the Connaught Tiara on Victoria, as it really suits her and it looked stunning on her as well.
I really enjoyed this Wedding and the emotion and love truly was oozing out from my iPad.
Congratulations to Prince Carl Phillip and Princess Sofia!! Wishing a long and happy life to them!!
