Now that I think about it, my fear is that her parents actually didn't know what to do with her because she was a girl (they were anticipating a boy and it took them over two weeks to come up with a name, so I have read). She became the one to live in the shadows while her character was fit to do anything but that.
It made her a tragic figure and quite possibly the victim of her time.
