King Hussein and Dina Bint Abdul Hamid 1955

On April 19, 1955, King Hussein married his distant cousin Dina Bint Abdul Hamid daughter of Al Sharif Abdul Hamid of Egypt.

The bride was six years older than the groom. At the time of the wedding the groom was 19 years and the bride was 25 years old. The bride was Cambridge educated and held a teaching position at the Cairo University.

The couple's initial meeting took place at the home of a royal Iraqi relation in London. This was followed by brief encounters in Maadi, when King Hussein would go for drives with his fiancé in a large American car.

It seems that the wives of Jordanian kings are all educated and have better education than these kings.
