Sorry to say this, but I hate her wedding dress. I hope it was winter, cuz it looks like one of those Chrismassy type outfits.

yeah i agree with Reina her dress doesn't tickle my fancy...the fluffy stuff it really hm...like what Reina said Christmasy...haha

but if i was marrying that family i might wear it is its like an airlume but i would have the fluffy stuff removed

the outfit doesn't take my fancy, but to be objective, perhaps it was the style or fashion of that time...although her hair remains me alittle of the princess in star wars movie!

Actually the dress isn't so bad, if you have the fur removed from the dress. Otherwise, I think the dress looks very simple and elegant. The bride looked radiant and you can see the happiness and love on her face.
Truly a great match!!!

Thank you so much for the wonderful pictures, Catherine!

And to whoever asked if their wedding was in winter- yup, they got married in February of 1981. On Valentine's Day, I believe.

I think her dress was nice.Well wouldnt be nice for our days but back then i think it was a beautiful dress. She looked so happy too

Thanks for the group picture. I don't recognize everyone in the picture. Are there any pictures of MT's family.
I love her dress (simple and elegant). MT's dress is a big difference from Di's (which I hate).

hmm....just one question....was she pregnant at her wedding? i mean...she looks quite chubby when you compare with other brides on their wedding day

i think MT has always been chubby although i wouldn't call her quite chubby at her wedding day she looks fine...i think she didn't think it was necessary to be the stick thin bride that are popular

Her wedding dress was designed by Pierre Balmain. Guests: the complete Belgian RF, Margrethe & henri of denmark, Olaf of Norway, prince Philip, Grace & Rainier of Monaco, Otto & Regina of Austria, Marie-José of Italy, Hans-Adam & Marie of Liechtenstein, Margarita & Dr. Zurito of Spain, Margriet & Pieter of Holland.

Wedding Anniversary of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa today

There have been some great pictures posted in this thread -- but is there any information on the details of the wedding? Who designed Maria Teresa's dress, the diademe she wore, the flowers she carried, her attendants, etc.

I have looked for info about the wedding details, but have not been able to find much. I do know that the diadem is called the Congo Diamond Tiara; it was originally a wedding gift to Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte from the then-Belgian colony of Congo. It was later worn by her daughters Princess Margaretha and Princess Marie-Astrid on their wedding days, as well as Maria-Theresa on hers.

I think the "older" lady in the fur coat was Paola of Belgium, it looks like King Albert with her.

I was trying to think of what other royals had furry wedding dresses. Fabiola of Belgium! And almost royal Victoria Lockwood, later Spencer.

i don't think her dress was so bad considering it was 1981...

Very tame for 1981! Good choice! I actually like the fur parts. My mother got married (in the 1960s) in January and she had faux fur cuffs on her dress, no fur collar or hem though. There was a huge snow storm the day before the wedding.

Very interesting pictures. You can read all kinds of things from people's faces and gestures
