What kiss? Just kidding....

The forehead kisses and cheek kisses were sweet. I wonder if they discussed this before the wedding, that they would only do that.

Based only on my experience on my wedding day, it so uncomfortable having people (mainly the photographer) telling you to kiss (it is so posed) and everyone is watching and taking pictures. I can't imagine having an audience of thousands.

The most beautiful picture I've seen in many many a royal wedding was the photo of Felipe kissing Letizia's forehead after his amazing toast. It was filled with love and a beautiful, intimate tenderness.
I totally agree!! This kiss was much more romantic than many other royal kisses!!

I don't think they were too shy (although t could be very possible), but the Spanish protocol is very strict, and I don't think they're allowed to kiss in public. I know this is strange, because you would think they control they're own life, and they probably do!! But I like the glance of mystery around the royals, and I want it to stay, although this means that we get to know less than we want.

I totally agree with you. Frederik and Mary looked so in love and Felipe and Letizia looked like they didn't want to be there. (I mean during the wedding) A bit of a dissapointment if you ask me!
It is not A PUBLIC KISS that shows only that two are truly in love....

I am not impressed about Mary and Fred kissing each other several times...couldn't they hold themselves for a while...

I respect the privacy of Letizia and Felipe and their choice for not showing affection publicly...In fact, i respect them more for that as they want to keep something to themselves...

I do not understand why people are so obssessed about this kissing matter and want royalties to kiss publicly :o

Also, i still believe that Felipe and Letizia are a more mature couple and are considerate in the sense that they made the time to attend Fred's wedding one week before theirs and attended the Jordanian wedding one week after their wedding....

We human beings want to see a fairy tale kind of wedding and many people liked Fred's wedding because of the tiaras guests were wearing, Fred's speach and so on...In fact, It appeared that Fred copied some passages from a book
What an ashame...(you can read more about his speach in a thread somewhere in this forum: http://forums.rbhq.net/index.php

Although Felipe's speech sounded to some unromantic, i think it was balanced and sincere and goes along with the Spanish situation...

Finally, the ceremony of Felipe and Letizia was much better...Just look at the church where they got married: flowers, carpets, architecture, the music...

(NB: it is important to distinguish love and lust)

No shame at all, he quoted a line from their favorite book :flower:
Very romantic at least imo

I don't know a lot about what Fred said, so I won't comment, but I was in Spain and Felipe's words were very very very well received. It was considered by some the most important public words he has ever spoken because, while saying some very beautiful things about the kind of relationship he and Letzia have--a relationship based on love, respect and mutual "entrega"--he spoke also about their understanding of their responsabilities and how they plan to act, he spoke of their commitment to each other and their commitment to Spain.

He said, specifically: The commitment Letizia and I have made today transends the merely personal and we offer our commitment to our families and our destinies, intimately linked to that of the Spanish people.

If any one is interested, I'd be willing to translate the whole thing. It was really excellent.

All along people in Spain have spoken of the wedding not just as a personal matter, but also a matter of state (it was oficially called a state wedding) because he will be the future head of state and she his consort. And that is exactly how they acted and how he spoke--the day, the marriage, was not just about two people who love one another. And that's what people respected and liked about the event.

Except for the gossips, who just wanted a big wet kiss.

That's how people I was with and people I spoke with felt, at least.

If you wish to copy in English or Spanish what he said, it is ok with me--I read, write, and speak both!!!

The one thing I hate about my computer is on my keyboard, I don't have the appropriate Spanish punctuation, nor the French either!!!

Here you go tiaraprin: It actually is much better in Spanish because he uses very formal language which I find difficult to translate. But I did my best. I haven’t captured the elegance of his words, but here are the sentiments at least. I put it in english in case others are also interested. You’ll see he often is speaking for both of them and gives sort of a statement of principles and values that will guide them.

Moderator: If you feel this is too long or in the wrong place just do your stuff...

El brindis del Principe de Asturias

I cannot nor do I wish to hide it, I imagine that it jumps to the sight: I am a happy man. And I have the certainty that this condition arises from feeling the emotion of seeing and protagonizing the accomplishment of a profound desire: I have married the woman I love.

To unite reason with the force of love and emotions has been always an objective in my life. For that reason, we are celebrating today that Letizia and I unite our lives in a communion of love, responsibility, work, respect and mutual devotion. We offer our union to our families and above all else to our destiny, intimately bound to the future of the Spaniards.

We meet our future with very deep optimism and hope. Service to the Spaniards is the great personal and institutional commitment with which Letizia and I now initiate this new stage in our life. In it we seek to find the lasting happiness that all families look for and wish for. We aspire to have a family. And we want to reach the necessary balance between the public and the private, between obligations - that are for life - and the legitimate and necessary family life; knowing that our work requires a serenity, a dedication, a certainty and a moderation such that will allow us to weave human/personal time with political time.

Letizia: a little more than a year ago we took the first steps that, with love and serenity, have brought us here. It is not a long time, nor is it little time; the sufficient to have allowed us to have discovered, with transparency and sincerity, one in the other the person who we wish to have at our side for all our lives. The reciprocal knowledge and respect, our complementariness and complicity have gone day to day consolidating that with which so much force brought us together and moved us to arrive at our marriage.

It is also very important—as you always tell me--that we know how to find one in the other the still pool necessary to reflect, to enjoy and to share everything that makes us grow as people, to be proud of ourselves and to endure the intensity of our lives. And it is even more so inasmuch as there is to be found the source of joy and familial harmony.

That we will achieve it, I am without doubt.

Ladies and Gentlemen: The commitment that Letizia and I have assumed today goes beyond the merely personal. From the time I was very young I have been conscious of my responsibilities and loyalty to the King and to my duty have guided my life. Well then, I am proud of the conviction and responsibility with which from today Letizia joins this project [he always refers to the Crown and his role as “this project”]; And I want all to know how grateful I am to Letizia for her devotion and determination in the face of all this project entails.

In the path that we are to travel we depend upon the invaluable example of Their Majesties the King and Queen. Of His Majesty the King, who along with a generation of great patriots obtained the reconciliation of the Spaniards, carried out the establishment and the consolidation of our democracy and has exerted with impeccable form His constitutional functions. Of Her Majesty the Queen, with Her constant and permanent support to the King, Her sensitivity, Her availability and Her example. Together they have ensured that the Crown is a useful institution in the service of Spain, respected and loved by the Spaniards.

And although the circumstances will be different and also the people, my vocation of continuity with that model and its example is firm and categorical. And it is derived from an intimate conviction and my permanent commitment to ensuring that the Crown continue to contribute to the institutional stability of Spain, the integration and cohesion of the Spaniards and that it continue to be the guarantor of freedom and progress.

Majesty: do not have any doubt that we will always be thinking of Spain and all our life will be dedicated to the well being of the Spaniards.

Today we have sealed our love before God and society; all you are witnesses of it and the authenticity that moves us. For that reason we are especially content for being able to share with you, the Madrilenians and all the Spaniards this crucial moment in our lives. We want to give thanks for the constant gestures of affection and generosity that have arrived from so many points of the Spanish geography, even from outside our country. Also for the affection, the effort and the dedication of the Institutions and the many thousands of people who have contributed to the preparation and good outcome of these days of celebration. It would be desirable, although impossible, to express our gratitude personally to each of them. As it is also impossible to have here with us so many people who are dear to us, but to whom we dedicate an affectionate acknowledgment from here.

In this chapter of gratitude and acknowledgments we want to have a special one for our families. We have arrived here partly through their attentiveness and have received from them during all these months support and understanding that has been vital sustenance, as it will continue to be. Moreover, to have arrived here would not have been possible without the aid of many people, among whom I wish to especially honor my sisters, the Infantas, and their husbands. But, foremost, it would not have been possible without Their Majesties the King and Queen. As a son it is much throughout my life for which I am thankful to them. And today, on the day of my wedding, I want to make public record of my deepest gratitude for Their affection and permanent support. It is not possible for me to understand my happiness without Theirs.

Today I receive two parents and two sisters more, and also four grandparents--which I no longer have. From mine I continue receiving inspiration and their memory accompanies me and fills me with pride. From yours [Letizia’s] I receive a warm proximity and the valuable learning of their lives: receive [the grandparents] my respectful and affectionate gratitude.

M of Madrid, of May and of Memory [Part of the decorations in Madrid were banners that had an M for Madrid and said May 2004]; in our memory will always be the absent [those killed in the terrorist attack in March], those that criminally and brutally were not allowed to continue living their illusions and sleeplessness; and also those that today cannot enjoy with them, freely and civically, the welcome Madrilenian spring that raises our spirits. With their memory present, allow me to raise my glass for my wife Letizia, for Their Majesties the King and Queen, and for Spain.

Could you post it in Spanish Lucys?? I really want to get the true meaning. I know that in translating it that it loses its meaning.

Maybe you want to take culture into consideration. Did any spainish royal couple kiss in a balcony? So maybe denmark is famous for balcony kissing while spain is not, that is not a judgement who is particularly in love or not. I do remember fred's not kissing in his engagement desapointed lots of people and he promised to kiss in wedding? So he and mary overcompansated to kiss each other all over, not just one kiss but many kisses and it seems the media is satisfied. So depend on personal choices, but like old saying, marriage is a journey, not a stop, the wedding does not signify its success. Let's hope everyone succeed.

No Spanish Royal has ever kissed at their wedding--Cristina and Elena didn't even greet people from a balcony.

I don't know why people made such a big deal about this. Personally I never expected to see more than we did--Felipe's not the type to kiss in public, even on his wedding day. And the King and Queen were said to want a very serious, elegant and regal wedding, which is what we got.

Besides, there's just as much love and happiness in this balcony image as in any kiss.

I wish all three of the newly wed princes success with their choosen brides. Some people seem to just want to wish ill things on some of these new princesses and I don't get it--always finding fault and such. It's kind of silly, IMHO.

I was thinking, after reading Mary's interview, how it must be such a relief to be able to be open (public) about the relationship. So maybe she and Fred were kissing a lot on the wedding day out of that joy....no more secrets, hiding for years. There wasn't the same speculation / anticipation with Felipe and Letizia - no one knew they were dating before the engagement.

Was the incident widely reported in the Spanish media? I'd imagine Vittorio Emanuele had too much to drink. Regardless, what an embarrasment that is to himself and his son. Could somebody explain on what does the Italian public think about Vittorio Emanuele given that he has been going around shooting and punching? Thanks.

You really don't have many nice things to say about Frederik and/or Mary, do you?
I do like Fred & Mary, its just that I happen to read this post at the royal blue and i agree on it, and its easier for me to quote it than to compose my own. [/b][/quote]
Bis who makes false astrology readings?? Even people who do astrology have sometimes gone to that board and full on tell her "that's not right, that's not the way to do it" but she goes ahead and does whatever sounds bad for F & M. And the stuff she says about F & M!! o my gosh, well you konw that a person who can write such stuff can never have an objective outlook on the couple (stuff about Copenhagen burning if the wedding goes ahead... yes, Bis is reliable... not&#33

I think the only thing that wasn't Fred's was the line from that song. and who knows, perhaps he said it because it has special significance for them, like Fred and Mary knowing that poem "How do I love thee"... but Fred's version comes from, appropriately enough, a song from a rock band .
