CP Maxima looked elegant as usual, and I loved Infanta Cristina's hat!!! Queen Sofia's and King Juan Carlos' wave together was regal and beautiful.

Spain must have been breathtaking!!!

Good Luck to the newly married couple!!!!! :flower:

Yes. There was a little peck from Felipe.
Wasn't that at the part of the service you are supose to greet the ones next to you?

Is it my impression or Letizia is wearing a "coat" and she will take it off for the lunch?

Devasting Elegance from Spain's Future Queen

After her most recent appearances in stunning off-the-shoulder gowns with tight-fitting bodices, speculation as to Letizia's wedding dress had reached fever pitch among Spaniards eager to see how the future queen of their country would look on her big day.

One thing was certain, she was not going to disappoint. And when she finally made her entrance, clad in the best-kept secret of the wedding day, she surprised once again. This time, with the devastatingly simple elegance of her gown, which was designed by 87-year-old Catalan maestro Manuel Pertegaz.

Perhaps the most striking feature of the off-white silk dress, which fell from her shoulders in one smooth sweep of cloth, was a high-standing collar showing off the bride's looks to perfection. The collar, like the edging of the rest of the dress, was picked out with heavy white embroidery depicting the fleur de lys and ears of wheat details from the Prince of Asturias crest. The gown was a personal gift from the groom, the Prince of Asturias, to his bride.

Its 4.5-metre circular train only revealed its full glory when it was arranged behind Letizia as she joined her prince at the altar, providing a feast for the eye for the congregation seated behind the bridal party in the main body of the cathedral.

As her main adornment, the bride, who will now be styled the Princess of Asturias, wore the same platinum and diamond tiara as her new mother-in-law, Queen Sofia, on her marriage to King Juan Carlos. She was also wearing a dazzling pair of diamond/platinum earrrings which were a gift from the king and queen.

Spaniards Rejoice as their Crown Prince Weds

Resplendent in full military regalia, Spain's Crown Prince Felipe stood alone at the altar of Madrid's Almudena cathedral, awaiting his beautiful bride, Letizia Ortiz.

At precisely 11am, Felipe's face lit up with a broad smile when he caught sight of a group of little page boys and flower girls, dressed in yellow and white 17th-century Goya-esque costumes, entering the flower-filled cathedral.

Outside, under a sea of umbrellas, crowds were patiently awaiting the appearance of the bride, who arrived in a black Rolls-Royce alongside her father. Driven to the entrance of the cathedral to protect her from the downpour which had begun only minutes before, she emerged from the limousine, followed by two bridesmaids.

The most highly-anticipated moment had arrived the unveiling of the Manuel Pertegaz gown six months in the making. It was a simple creation, in line with Letizia's pared-down style, allowing the bride's picture perfect beauty to shine through.

As music rang out throughout the church, Letizia met her smiling groom at the altar, where she received a kiss on the cheek. While the tiny attendants could be seen playing and fidgeting nearby, the couple took their seats, exchanging occasional whispers and glances as the wedding mass began.

Both composed throughout the service, Felipe and Letizia stood to say their vows, holding hands before exchanging coins as well as rings in line with Spanish tradition. Afterwards, the couple suddenly broke into smiles, and, as the two prepared for communion, Felipe could be seen discreetly playing with the brand new wedding band on his right hand.

After communion, the couple kissed on the cheek and the chorus sang out in celebration. They then signed the registry followed by the king and queen officially making the former TV newscaster Crown Princess Letizia.

With the choir singing the rousing Hallelujah chorus, the congregation stood to honour the royal couple, who left the church arm in arm. And though Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia emerged into pouring rain, there was no containing their spontaneous smiles of delight as they descended the steps to the joyous peals of the cathedral bells.

Hopefully it's a coat. To me skirt and train looked like one piece making it very heavy. Letizia always looked like walking forward in hip-deep water , dragging the train along with her legs step by step.

Madeline's suit was lovely, don't get me wrong, but is it just me, or does anyone else think that the suit, especially the embroidery and neckline of the jacket made Madeline look like she could in her 40s rather than a young thing in her 20s?
I agree, the suit is in a style that one expect more to see in a older woman than Madeleine.
Is the hat new? it looks familiar to me.
Actually, I have to admit, when I saw Madeleine's suit I thought that she was finally wearing some day wear that was appropriate for her age (although the hat choice was a bit questionable). I thought the cut was youthful (not so buttoned up or frilly) and a nice touch with the embroidery. A bit scandalous to wear something so close to white though!

As for Carl Philip - he needs a hair cut!

Oh, and I really do abhor the hats worn by Maxima and Marie Chantal (they look like feather dusters&#33 and MM's - well it's really just feathers!
