The problem with those jewels books is, that the authors don't know everything. And I a assume that Roberts, who worked for the Royal Collection afaik, knows much more than he was allowed to let on. These books don't cover each and every jewel in the vaults, so there might loads of stuff that we are not aware of. I think that it was Fields, who wrote in her book that the Queen owns two unused sapphire tiaras from Queen Mary. I'm not sure who well-founded that assumption is, even royal authors are known to get it wrong sometimes. But some years ago the Royal Collection published a pic a rather unconventional Indian tiara that had been a gift to Queen Victoria. No-one of the royal jewels watchers had been aware of the existence of this piece! It's said that Queen Mum also inherited an emerald tiara from Mrs. Greville, and that it's unused in storage. So who knows what else there is?

Therefore, I think that it is very well possible that the lozenge tiara is still in the Queen's possession. Princess Margret only wore it in her younger years, which might mean, that she only loaned it. And the Queen isn't know for selling off jewels, so why not? Imo, the question rather is whether Meghan will get a loaner from the vault or a new acquisition as a gift? And well, I'm on team loaner :D! I love to see the historic jewels being worn by new generations of royal ladies! (Just three more days, so please forgive me my exaggerated use of exclamation marks, I'm getting excited!!)

I am definitely on team loaner too. Up until recently, HM has assigned a tiara to her daughters-in-law for the wedding and thereafter or purchased one for the new bride and that was it. However, with the advent of Sophie and Camilla, we have seen more tiaras, necklaces and earrings than ever before.

Unlike the previous standard, Catherine wore the Halo Scroll for her wedding but she has worn another two different tiaras since, rather like Queen Sylvia of Sweden allowing her daughters and daughter-in-line to also swop and change their tiaras. And the country is immensely grateful for the visual feast.

Let's hope HM keeps up the new style of jewel usage and allows all sorts of goodies to see the light of day.

Also, Queen Mum left her jewels to the Queen and obviously the lotus flower tiara was returned after Princess Margret's death. So now, the Queen has considerably more tiaras sitting in her vault than she had at the time of Sophie's wedding. That might count in favour of a loaner as well. And it really seems that HM enjoys sharing her jewels more than she used to in former years.

Not to forget, there is the story that Sarah arranged with Garrard's to borrow a tiara for the wedding. When the Queen heard about that, she decided to buy it for her. Who knows, Sarah might have been loaned a royal tiara, if she had consulted with the Queen first.

Queen Silvia doesn't own any of the tiaras at the disposal of the royal family. They're a mix of being owned by the family foundations, personal property of the king and the different princesses.

True. They bong to the private family foundation. She does however get first dibs.?

They only difference is that in the UK a tiara booowed from the Queen is only worn by one one the royal ladies whereas in Sweden and NL the are sharing them all the time. So there it can be that a tiara woirn by Victoria is seen next on Queen Silvia etc.

In the UK the tiara loaned to Camilla and Kate have only worn by them and not by other royal ladies after the debuted them.

Therefoire i think if a tiara is loaned by the Queen it won't be the Papyrus tiara as it was worn by Kate not too long ago.

Last call for the Strathmore Rose [emoji257]! I had hoped for this for Catherine. I actually think it’s an even better choice for Meghan.

Okay, I think using those rules we are left with few real choices. We know the Strathmore Rose exists but not what state it is in, same with the Lozenge. The Filligree may no longer exist, the Teck Crescent is said to be with Camilla. It looks like QM's Fringe is one of the few in good repair. A loan from Camilla isn't out of the question I guess.

I'm am not at all wanting to see the S.R...hoping for the Q.M. Lozenge or the Teck.

I agree. The Lozenge or the Teck would be perfect, but at this point, I am desperately hoping for any tiara, except something like the abomination that was Sophie's wedding tiara. If that were the option, I'd rather see hair jewelry.

Oh I can't even....Lord let there please be no repeats of Sophie's wedding tiara.

That's partly why I am not a fan of the idea of a newly created tiara.

LaRae

I think it will be the Fringe.
It just seems more suitable than the Strathmore Rose or the Lotus.

The Strathmore Rose was my choice for Catherine, and I was disappointed she didn’t wear it for her wedding. Perhaps Meghan will?? I think Meghan will look gorgeous in a tiara. Can. Not. Wait!!

I couldn’t agree with this more, I think this whole wedding will be gorgeous. I’d love to se Meghan in the Strathmore Rose tiara, it’s stunning.

I don't think the Queen is going to loan out her Fringe tiaras for this.

Sarah's new tiara was lovely though.

I don't see Meghan in the Strathmore Rose. I think too juvenile and fussy for her. I think it will be something sleeker.

I think the Fringe tiara has a special meaning in BRF, only for these born-princesses.

Sarah's tiara wasn't newly created. It was newly bought.

I think she'd look great in Queen Mary's Lozenge Bandeau! Simple and elegant!

I voted for Queen Mary's Lozenge Bandeau.... I hope Princess Eugenie will get to use The Strathmore Rose Tiara/The Fringe Tiara on her wedding day

She has Q Adelaide's Fringe tiara and a silk strung Fringe necklace. However, she uses the Great Wall of Diamonds, aka the diamond Kokoshnik these days. I can't remember the last time she actually wore the Fringe.

Not necessarily. It was gifted to QEQM and she leant it to her daughter and granddaughter for their weddings.

QEQM seemed to have no particular affection for it. When it broke on her wedding day Elizabeth was distraught. I read that the QM was it overly worried and told her there were plenty of others to choose from. A WII wasn't having any of it. The tiara was repaired and is such a classic style I'm glad she did and that Anne wore it. It was just plain perfect.

Sarah's was an existing tiara purchased for her by the Queen/Prince Phillip.

Actually I think it got a special meaning since the Queen and Anne. That's why I hope the Yorks wear it in their wedding but I guess Charlotte will be the next wearer. (oops OT) I don't expect to see it on Meghan but I don't mind it come true:lol:.

^^^^^ Sarah's was a beautifully and fitting tiara that Sarah carried of with panache.

I agree about the SR being somehow juvenile. It also seems the tiara least suited to Meghan's style.

I don't find the Strathmore juvenile but it is not classic. It doesn't seem to fit a modern esthetic and looks to be a period piece.

To me the S.R. is very style specific ..it won't go with just any type of dress.

Anyone who still hasn't voted? The poll is still open, but will be closed before the ceremony tomorrow. Let's see if we can make it past 200 votes. :flowers:

Re. Queen Mary's fringe:QEII has worn it only three times
- her wedding
- Visit to Trinidad and Tobago in 2009
- Official portrait for New Zealand in connection with her diamond jubilee

Not often, is it? Certainly not her most favourite tiara. But more appreciated than the 5-aquamarine tiara she lends now to Sophie.

Queen Mum has only worn it frequently while she was the Queen Consort. She stopped wearing it in the early 1950s, and I don't think that she wore it after her daughter's accession.

I have a feeling that we won't see this one on Meghan, given that it's a much more important jewel than the one her daughter-in-law Sophie got many years of hard work and faithful service.

:previous:

And the Duchess of Cambridge wore the lovely but small halo tiara of Cartier, I don't think Meghan's tiara will be substantially larger, but we will see.

Do we know if the emerald choker/bandeau of the late princess of Wales is now with prince Harry? It could be an option, though coloured tiaras at royal weddings are not common.

I voted for an antique tiara that was acquired as happened for the Duchess of York IIRC. I would be thrilled if we would see a long-hidden item such as the Lozange, the filigree bandeau or my absolute favorite: Queen Mary's Sapphire bandeau (with or without sapphire).

Oh no, please not the choker bandeau! It just doesn't have the look of a proper tiara. For a festive night out in the 1980's the look was right, but not for a wedding, imo. I don't think that it's known where the emerald choker is these days. Afaik, it was was a loan from the Queen, but if it was a gift, it might be with either of the boys.

Ehmagawd, she wore it here? I didn't even realise. I'm guessing this was for CHOGM?
